I'll take a draw. Yes, we could have won, and yes, we had the chance to hang on to our lead, but still, a draw in Madrid is a decent result.

We threw away 2 points....we were quite lathargic in the last 20 minutes. That cost us....

even if Maniche was onside it wouldn't have mattered because he missed the net....

wtf? you must be talking about other attack because the one i mean end in to the net

Is it more or since we lost Crouchie, excluding Torres, we really do not have any class strikers. Chelsea game should be an interesting one.
Glad theres a brit pub in Columbia, SC i can watch it at.

Liverpool hope Steven Gerrard, Robbie Keane and Xabi Alonso will face Chelsea on Sunday despite sustaining injuries against Atletico Madrid.

The trio failed to finish Wednesday's 1-1 Champions League draw in Spain.

Keane is causing Reds manager Rafael Benitez the most concern: "We need to check with Keane. I don't think it will be serious.

"It was a little bit of a muscle problem for Robbie. Gerrard is okay and Alonso has a knock on his knee."

Yes, I am talking about the other attack.

Hopefully those three are alright. I don't like to think what could happen if all of them plus Torres missed the Chelsea match...

Well, by the 80th minute I was already preparing me head for a defeat at home.
I have to say well done to Liverpool. Watched the game on the telly with my mates, and they're still having a hard time accepting it, or a phase of denial should we call it. :D
I've been through a Utd hammering at the Bridge so I suppose I still remember the taste of defeat at home.

But despite the goal being deflected, I thought tactically Liverpool cancelled us out ENTIRELY.A bit similar to the game against Utd, our full-backs were nullified, and every cross was cleared with ease. The whole Liverpool team worked hard for this victory, and thoroughly deserve it.

As for us, in a positive sense, I think our players would actually gain something from this defeat. Whether being relieved the pressure of possibly trying to go unbeaten the whole season and tasting defeat for the first time at the Bridge in the EPL. Of course I'd rather win the league even if it means we lose our record in the process.

Surely Liverpool are the main contenders for the title.
But we'll be back for part 2 at Anfield. Lets hope both teams are still top of the table till then.

cheers

I couldn't really watch it in the end, as I thought you'd find a way in somehow, just like we have done lately...

I think you played well enough to deserve something from the game, though I'm not complaining about it!

Nothing is decided yet, though, as the League isn't won by October, and I'm sure you guys and Man U are sure to have a great season. I just hope Liverpool can challenge this time.

What a big big win this was! Good game by Chelsea.....you knew they were going to keep fighting until the end. Alonso was terrific.....he's clearly better than Garreth Barry. Chelsea's streak was bound to end...I just thought it'd be United or Arsenal who would end it. They were going to challenge for the title regardless of the outcome of this game so nothing has changed there.

As for what the win does for us, well, I remember in 2002 we went top around this time but then just fell apart after that and finished 5th. Ever since that year it always seems like we take a couple of months off and fall out of contention before January rolls around...case and point, 2007-2008. We've got to build on this win...remember Arsenal is still to come....we can't afford to throw away points cause, like I said earlier, you know Chelsea's not going anywhere....and the other 2 are still lurking.

Anyways, great win....hopefully it provides a boost in confidence that keeps us awake for longer this season.

If I remember correctly in 2002, didn't you guys finish 2nd above Utd. I think u guys did the double against Utd that season, I remember watching the Riise thunderbolt at Anfield and Murphy's winner at OT.

I think he meant the 02/03 season, when we had a 4 point lead (and a game in hand, I think, but my memory isn't that good), and blew it all away...

It was in the 2001-2002 season that we finished 2nd. That season capped a sizzling run to the top of the table for us....5th, 4th, 3rd and then 2nd in the seasons leading up to the 2002-2003 season. We were expected to go one better and win the league in 2002-2003 but, like Kibe Kru correctly pointed out, we couldn't get it done.....and wound up 5th.

Danny Murphy was a ManU killer at that time.....he just couldn't stop scoring against them and we beat them on numerous occasions during the early 2000s.:innocent_smile_1::innocent_smile_1:(Y)(Y)(Y) Ha, I remember how good those wins made me feel.....I used to keep convincing myself that we didn't need to win the league to be the best....we owned ManU...that spoke for itself. Ofcourse, 5th, 4th, 3rd, 2nd....things looked promising...I'd never have thought that, heading into the 2008-2009 season, we wouldn't be able to get back to 2nd.

02/03? I think I remember now, you guys had the 4 point lead but then lost to Boro(courtesy of Southgate, I remember watching that game). And a string of bad results followed and we beat you to the 4th CL spot that season. That was Owen's last season in Liverpool colours as well.

btw, we miss players like Gronkjaer.

I don't see why Liverpool can't keep up this sort of form. They only need to stop goals leaking from the "lesser" teams and if Rafa can stop rotating his squad like he has done in the past.

If we can keep this form up we will win the league. However if we fade like we have in the past against the not so good teams (Reading 3-0 Liverpool) these wins over the big clubs will all be for nothing...
