Methodical is a great word for it. I play with Line Length at 20; getting a decent shot on goal is like finding a needle in a haystack, heh. 20 minutes of gametime goes by with no shots whatsoever, that's common. Love it.

Really? I'm still trying to find a way to lower the shots. I just played a rematch of the Champions League fixture Celtic vs Spartak Moscow with these sliders. Moscow took a shot around 20 times. I took a shot 13 times. Granted Moscow shot a lot of off target and off balance balls. I won the game 3-2 as Celtic. The AI seems to do some passing around with these sliders which is why I love them. Just need to find a way to deter them from taking foolish shots. It could just be their team tactics as I played a game vs Chelsea not to many games earlier in which I lost 3-0 but the shots where much lower both teams just over 10 shots. The game was actually really close if you disregard the score. We held equal posession in a slow methodical game in which Chelsea simply capitalized better on their chances. I flubbed a few great chances and was ecstatic with how the game played.

I'm definitely going to go out on a limb and say it was TT that caused the major difference. I am using Rique's mod for them, not sure if he hasn't done Spartak yet. That would answer a lot of questions.

It's when the cpu goes into aggression mode that it gets a lot of shots off. So I edit the product file and remove all aggression boosts, that way the CPU plays even throughout the whole match. Editing the teams table in DBM 12 and lowering shooting and buildup speed ratings for teams is one possibility as well.

One thing about the defensive sliders - don't they just make the teams park the bus all the time? And do these settings work on World Class?

Great question, and there's a whole long discussion in there. First, no they don't just park the bus. The CPU will still play offensively. But lowering those sliders as suggested, forces the CPU to bring players back into their defensive end. And that's just realistic.

Watch some football videos on youtube. Teams always bring 7, 8, or 9 players back into the box area to defend. But with FIFA's default setup, the CPU will try to defend with their four back defenders and that's it. It's completely unrealistic and doesn't resemble football in the slightest. And that's one reason why people around here complain that the defense in the game is broken. It's not broken. The problem is people don't take the time to tweak sliders or edit CPU team and player workrates, or edit db formation values.

It depends on what people in their game. If they want a wide-open, offense-oriented game -- which is what EA is trying for with FIFA, knowing people do love to score goals -- then leave the sliders at default. But if people want to create a football sim experience, those positioning sliders need to be lowered, absolutely. And workrates and team tactics need to be edited and set to defend.

That is what I hate about the full version, I have no regrets from uninstalling it because they ruined the gameplay imo. The CPU takes stupid shots and crosses all the time and is seems desperate to pass forward at all times.

I'm still playing the demo because I have matches like this even with default sliders:



I lost to Arsenal here, they didn't take many shots just kept the ball and wait for a good opening to score.

Can this be fixed with gameplay patch? I'm not sure, but I tried fidel patch and this basic problem still remains.

Appreciate the sentiment but it's difficult for me to explain, as was said previously reducing the CPU's shooting and crossing decisions, and reducing their build up speed and pass risk taking would go a long way to making them keep possession more. As I told you in PM though I tried this myself but was unsuccessful.

The problem is that while decreasing the things you mentioned does increase possession, it also makes things unrealistic. The reason why the build up is so fast is because passing options have so much space.

reduce marking for ai via sliders to 30, pass error to 40, increase ai ftouch to 60 , switch to world class. Start from these and increase difficulty when you feel you break defense to easily

I've actually begun some extensive testing with some tweaks recently. I'm finding also that as I play through career its helping to edit my opponents tactics as I come to them. I watch a few videos of their play style on the intrawebz and then apply it as best I see fit. So far with these methodical sliders and custom tactics I'm getting even greater midfield battles. I've seen the AI pass it as much as 10 to 15 times just looking for an opening. Major improvement if you ask me. I'll update the first post as I discover new things and progress foreward. Gameplay videos will be posted before custom tactics and final sliders are up for grabs. I'm also working on some career mode tweaks and AI logic if anyone is interested.

Good try mate.
I had a similar slider tweak but I'm getting bored with this game.
CPU still doesn't tackle and HUM player can score in the same way whenever he wants.
Just receive the ball with back to the net, then dribble your defender slowly until you find the space for a shot. There's simply no build up from Human and CPU.

I THINK SETTING TO 50 ANYTHING TO DO WITH SHOOTING, PASSING OR RUNNING PRODUCES A FAR BETTER MATCH EXCEPT FOR PASS SPEED WHICH I PUT AT 40 WITH POWER BAR AT 55
