I experimented with it today and I couldn't pull it off. The strange part is that Fifa 06 has a formation.big file in zdata that contains the same formation files as Fifa 2005. It seems that formations are run through the database, as others have noted.
But the thing is that I I copied the formation.big file from 06 to 2005 and while the players positions seemed the same, their behavior seemed different.
I might have experienced a placebo effect, but I ve noticed 3 or 4 goals that I hadn't seen in the past and I think that the CPU was putting more midfielder runs...
I dunno, perhaps someone else can try it and see what happens.
I am also wondering whether we can affect a change in the database... I did copy the formation table from 06 to 05, but it only screwed the formations; didn't see anything different in the formations that did remain playable.
