Can't wait to see Inter players to lift Coppa Italia in the return leg ! :)

Too bad Adriano, Cambiasso, Javier Zanetti will miss the return match.

Zanetti pens new Inter deal
by Nadia Carminati - created on 15 Jun 2005

Argentinian star Javier Zanetti has penned a new deal with Internazionale that ties him to the club until 2010.

The Nerazzurri captain has helped form the backbone of his side for the past decade, and had been keen to ensure that he saw out the remaining years of his career at Estadio Giuseppe Meazza.

After inking the extension to his current deal, which ran until 2007, Zanetti will now be 36 by the time the new agreement comes to an end.

Real Madrid had been linked with a move for the player in November, although this latest deal has reaffirmed the special relationship that Zanetti and his club enjoy.

"It's true and for me it has been a really important thing," Zanetti told Gazzetta dello Sport.

"I've said it many times that my only desire would have been to close my career at Inter.

"They have been my team for ten years and, at this point, I hope it will be forever.

"This renewal is a clear demonstration of how I'm keen on Inter and how Inter would like me to stay."

Roberto Mancini's side are still in pursuit of silverware this season, although Zanetti will miss the Coppa Italia final second-leg against Roma due to his participation in the Confederations Cup.

The Nerazzurri hold a significant advantage after Brazilian sensation Adriano grabbed a brace at Stadio Olimpico, with the second leg due to be played on Wednesday night.

Nothing surprising here. Zanetti is Nerazzurri for life.

Solari should be signed in the next day or two

Even better that we still managed to win the 2nd leg without capitano, estaben and adriano.

Would have loved to see Zanetti be able to lift the trophy...

MIHAJLOVIC AT INTER UNTIL JUNE 2006
Thursday, 16 June 2005 16:13:47

MILAN - Cup final return leg scorer Sinisa Mihaljovic has extended his contract with Inter until 30 June 2006. Technical director Marco Branca and transfer market consultant Gabriele Oriali said: "This shows that our main desire is to reward those players who have shown not only their technical qualities on the pitch in every situation, but also professionalism and the desire to be part of this group that with last night's Coppa Italia victory capped the good work done by Mancini and the team this season. A year ago Mihajlovic came to Milan with the firm desire to add to his long list of triumphs with the Nerazzurri shirt. We are pleased to continue together with the same objectives."

Zanetti resigning is nothing of a surprise. It's also a nice surprise that Miha is staying on. I'll admit that I wasn't really a fan of his and I was hoping he would retire, but I guess with Burdisso gone next year that he sorta deserves be resigned (as a BACKUP) Some how, some way, he and Materazzi didn't give up a goal in the 2 Coppa Italia Finals and even in other games before that. They also deserve credit for helping Inter's defence to be the best in Italy in the 2nd part of the season. If we could have started out the way we ended, beating Milan and Juve for the title would have beena piece of cake.

Well with the Coppa Italia over, it's time for a new thread. :jambo:
