Ya, im mad at myself. In my absence, you did a fine and admirable job, and really put them in their place. (Y)

But remember, this is Portugal, we'll have plenty of times to make fun them:D .

.... i hope Italy and Portugal set up another friendly, so we can beat them for the 15th time in a row....

SKY TROPHY: INTER 5 AEK ATHENS 1
Friendlies: Five-Star Inter Sunday 15 August, 2004

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Inter demolished Greek giants AEK Athens 5-1 last night, while Cagliari, Chievo and Palermo also earned morale-boosting victories, but Parma nd Lazio struggle.

The Nerazzurri were simply stunning in their Trofeo Sky victory in Pisa, in which Coach Roberto Mancini fielded just six of last week’s starters against Basel.

Edgar Davids has recovered from a muscular problem and was able to start alongside Juan Sebastian Veron, Ze Maria and Dejan Stankovic.

The deadlock was broken after ten minutes when Veron’s free kick found Stankovic to volley in at the back post. Nicola Ventola wasted two good chances before Ze Maria hit his stride, setting up Marco Materazzi’s header and another Stankovic strike.

There were many changes after the break with Giorgios Karagounis and Alvaro Recoba place out wide, pushing Ze Maria into a fullback position.

Sinisa Mihajlovic made his debut and within three minutes scored with one of his trademark free kicks, although his lack of pace was evident when Soares grabbed AEK’s only goal of the game.

Ventola saw a goal disallowed and then was generous in cutting across for the unmarked Julio Cruz to net and complete the 5-1 rout.

======================================

Good performance by the side. Stankovic grabbed a brace, Materazzi scored from a header, Miha hit a trademark FK (still don't like him though...) and other players played well. Even if it was a meaningless trophy its always nice to win convincingly. Hopefully the team can continue to prepare for the Basel match and win it with similar results:rockman:

Inter looks very strong. But none of the strikers scored.

What's Mihajlovic good for besides free kicks? Niente, nada.

How do you feel Inter will do against Chievo away? I predict a 1-1 draw, followed by a win against the Sicilians.

Roberto Carlos dreams of Inter return

Roberto Carlos’ departure remains one of Inter fans’ biggest regrets, but the Brazilian admits he’d love the chance to wear the Nerazzurri jersey again.

“One day I would love to play for Inter again,” stated the fullback. “I left many good friends behind in Milan. We will have to wait and see what happens.”

Roberto Carlos was a fans’ favourite, but released to Real Madrid after just one season on the orders of then-Coach Roy Hodgson.

“The Italian Championship is wonderful and very competitive,” he continued. “I have many happy memories of Serie A and still support Inter. I really hope this can be their year and with that squad at their disposal should go all the way in every competition.”

His return to the San Siro has been suggested several times over the intervening years and he is not about to pour cold water on those rumours.

“I can never forget President Massimo Moratti and all the sacrifices he makes to help Inter. Right now I am concentrating on achieving Real Madrid’s objectives, but who knows what tomorrow holds.”

===========================

Inter is looking for a LB.... but hes cup tied anyways, so maybe next season. Moratti seems like the greatest guy, no president gets praised by current and former players like him (Y)

AEK is more like a pussy cat than a giant right now. This team has been descemated loosing 6 key players.
I'll be suprised if they don't get relegated this year, either bc of financial woes or performance during the season.
The Greek League this year has revamped itself. Only two or three teams will be pushovers.

AEK will be one of them.

Congrats to Inter however. Well deserved victory.

Its good that Miha scored but its his blunder that caused Inter to give up a goal. He is SLOW. If he is fielded against a young attacker he will be heavily burned...

Cannavaro is Real target Monday 16 August, 2004

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Italy captain Fabio Cannavaro could be the next big name signing for Spanish giants Real Madrid.

The capital outfit netted Michael Owen from Liverpool last week but are now looking for a defender.

Boss Jose Camacho wants a quality stopper to place alongside Walter Samuel, who joined from Roma in June.

Camacho reportedly spent the weekend in talks with President Florentino Perez to discuss possible targets.

Stories in Spain claim that the Inter man is at the top of their wish list and a move is a real possibility.

Cannavaro has been linked with a transfer for most of the summer after being associated with Juventus.

However, the Bianconeri haven’t made a bid for the player which would allow Real to swoop for the 30-year-old.

Madrid are reportedly ready to offer around £8m for the former Napoli and Parma central defender.

Inter would be ready to sell given that they have numerous stoppers available, including summer signing Nicolas Burdisso from Boca Juniors.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

would be much better than selling him to Juve

maybe Materazzi and Cordoba can fare alright with Davids in front of them

also there is Burdisso, still haven't seen him play, is he getting time in Athens?
