Illustrations of tricks

Does any site offers any illustrations of dribbling tricks and skills? I checked google and couldn't find any. The only tricks I know is the Stepover and some I don't really know the name of.

most tricks look cool, but they don't give you much but applause on the pitch. To dribble good, learn to use your upperbody. If you fake right, move your entire body to the right and a small touch on the ball so it goes left and the opponent is long gone.

Just watch Ronaldinho, I have'nt seen anyone use his upperbody like he does. One of reasons he dribble like he does...

and make sure u remain calm when u try to beat the opponent. yes, move your upperbody to fake the opponent before u change the direction of the ball.

I don't know any sites, but what would your definition of tricks be? Yesterday in the match I was playing, there was a throw in by the corner flag, I chested it up slightly, spun, back heeled over my head and the defenders and had I not done it quite so hard it would have landed right at my feet for me to poke in (I did it a little to hard and it landed out in front of me and got knocked out for a corner).

That is a trick I'd consider useful (if you can pull it off) however tricks such as stepovers I don't consider to be useful if your facing a decent defender.

Well that trick can only be done in some situation and I don't agree with you, step-overs can be Very usefull if you know how to make em good and in what situation they are usefull

its very important not to slow down once you reach a defender. i usually play as a def and forwards that dont stop when they see me are usually the ones that i have to slide against or chase down. the ones that slow down/stop to fake me out are the ones who pwned :-p

I think tricks are important, the higher the level the better it is to do them, my opinion.

I've practiced stepovers for coming on to a year now, so i've put 100's of hours into it, and they're fast. What I like is that there are so many different variations, there really is. Sometimes I like it when the defenders waiting, or backpeddling, and the ball's rolling, and you just 'go mad' by doing one, let the ball roll a tiny bit, then another, then another, then take it u know? Brilliant.

Practice practice practice! :D

sometimes the "tricks" can just be used to give you that extra 6 inches you need so you have room to make a pass, not actually taking the ball passed the defender....

The secret of effective tricks is to lead the defender to believe that you are going to do one thing, and then being able to do another before he can react. For example, an effective series of stepovers (ala C Ronaldo) should fool the defender on each pass over the ball (Ronaldo is so effective due to the speed of his feet over the ball) At the very least you can draw a foul from a clumsy lunge, at best you can send your man completely the wrong way. Tricks like the roulette are designed to pull the ball away from potential challenges (as you spin your body and not the ball - effectively the ball should maintain direction) The Elastico (pioneered by Rivelinho) is a simple sudden shift of the direction of the ball to go outside, or inside an oncoming defender.

Tricks when used as a tool, and not as a means of showing off are a very effective addition to your arsenal. But the best learn (and continue to learn) when and where to use them. It's all very well being able to pull of the signature stepovers of Ronaldo, or the Elastico of Ronaldinho - but just because you can doesn't necessarly mean you should.
