How's your football career going?

Remember we used to have a forum dedicated specifically in your football career? These forums were not active enough I guess and that's not surprising. I'm not too sure how this thread will work out now that we no longer have these forums.

Post everything you want here regarding your football career. What position you play, what boots or "cleats" you wear, etc. You can also ask questions.

I recently started playing football after a very long time out. I am now 29 so it wasn't easy getting back in the game. Last time I played on a proper football field was in University like 8-9 years ago. Of course I played on small indoor fields since but very few games and far in between.

So, I have been playing for 2 months now and I'm loving it. We play twice a week outdoors. I used to play as a defender but now I'm better suited on the wings or fullback because I have speed and love to go up and down the wings. I feel most comfortable playing with space. My endurance is not the best at the moment but its getting there.

I posted a thread recently re: football boots recommendations. I bought the Adidas Ace 16.3 but it didn't turn out too well. These are budget boots and are stiff as hell. Feet hurt in them all the time. I do not think boots make you a better player but if you wear boots that are not comfortable, this can affect performance.

I recently bought the Nike Mercurial vapor XI.

What level is that where you play? cause the only football I get to play is on 5v5 pitches with my friends (H)

I started playing football as a RW (I am left footed) and I did fine, scored a lot of goals in my life (decent finishing) but I lacked pace and I was better at controlling the game than others and I also pass better than most of my friends. (Assists, vision) So a year ago I decided to move at CM and it took a while to get 100% confortable but now I play some great games and this is definitely my best position. I also learned how to play deep between the defenders and sometimes I defend pretty fine and even I am surprised of myself.

My partner in midfield is a 1,95 guy and we compliment eachother very well. When the team can't score and we need more direct attacks I move forward so my partner can feed me with through balls but I would still defend and ask for the ball to create myself something when I have a possibility. When we win confortably, that's when my tall friend thinks he's Busquets with Messi's dribbling and Ronaldo's folha seca and he would ruin the game for a few minutes but I cover him that's fine, that's why we play football, to have fun.

Before I moved at CM I was more like David Silva with finishing. Then I changed my position and I evolved. I'm more like... Hmm tough question... Xavi with better defensive skills? That's it, probably.

My biggest regret is that I can't watch myself play from the bench.

Amateur friendlies against other teams. The level is pretty good for amateur. It is usually about 11 v/s 11 but we have played 8 vs 8 as well in smaller pitches or sometimes even 14 v/s 14!

When we are 8 v/s 8 we play in smaller pitches, e.g. 55 m by 30 m pitches. When we have 11 or more we play on a standard sized pitch i.e. 90 m by 60 m.

We will play on this pitch tomorrow:

This pitch is pretty good; 90 m by 60 m.

I played last fall in a 7v7 league which was fun. I describe myself as a more competitive/aggressive Tom Huddlestone because I'm slow and fat with good touch and vision, but at the level I play I'm probably more like a Frank Lampard because I like to get forward a lot and have much better physical attributes when I'm playing against peers instead of good players. I'm generally one of the better players now because the only better guys past college age have been playing for club teams for years and don't dip down to that level. Haven't found an adult league here in Colorado yet, but some guys were talking about getting a team together, so I mentioned that I'm pretty good and always willing to play.

I played in HS both club and school, but haven't played at any real level since then. We had a very good club team (we went to Germany for a few weeks when I was 17... we got smashed by the U17 B Team for a pro club, but were better than most of the village clubs we played) and my high school was a game away from the state championship and I started on the left wing because I can use both feet relatively effectively.

Good for ya.

From what I've obsevrsed from my coked yup head... Busquets position is easy... Basicallu y you always have to position yourself in the middle of the triangle. Finding space uis essentialöl. Look.. You have two or three midfieöders around you, always look for space... TRIANGLE is the way to go... Busqurets role.. Anwyway Im done...

Haha, I'm totally not like this. I HATE this kind of shit and frequently have to swallow my tongue to teammates because otherwise I'd be screaming at them for being selfish all the damn time. If you want to do that shit, go for it, but it better come off, or at the very least not put us in a dangerous defensive position or ruin a good attacking opportunity. When someone doesn't make an easy square pass for a teammate to tap in a goal and instead takes the shot themselves, and then misses... I go fucking mental. Personally, I'd rather make a beautiful assist than score a goal, but of course sometimes you are just in the best position, so I do get a few goals myself especially from corners.

I genuinely think I could have been a low level pro (3rd or 4th division) if I was raised in England or Germany, but US coaching was always such shit. We mostly just ran and the coach told you your position and assumed you knew how to play it, giving no guidance at all; this was U-8 until I quit at 18 years old. Very little technical training (I did that on my own kicking a ball against a wall for hours), and literally zero positional or tactical training. We played 5-3-2 at every level except when I was on the JV team when we ran a 70s style Dutch 4-3-3 with a sweeper/stopper and 2 marking backs. The 5-3-2 was always presented as a 4-4-2, but it was more like Sweeper, Stopper (but really DM), 2 marking backs, 2 wingers who had to track the opposition winger (i.e. wingback), CM, AM, 2 STs. Shitty formation. I'm pretty sure most US youth teams still run this shitty World Cup 90 formation too.

Recently played in a 7vs7 league in Barcelona with friends (we all had played at clubs as children), won second division 2 years ago, get relegated the last season. We are not playing anymore that year.

7a side football is awesome, i love it.

Tjese are the boots i'm using this season for coaching... They are classic leather, i tried but i just dont like the plastic shit all the New boots are made of now. I changed the original black laces for Turquoise ones and it looks mucj better.

Yeah, 7v7 is great. So much space and always an open game.

Its attack-counter all the time haha, impossible to control the game unless you are much much better than the otjer team.

Adidas X. Which version? 15.1? There is a huge difference between 15.1 and 15.3.

Arnau boots look great. Leather break in nicely but I prefer a barefoot feel.

My style on the left wing is like Kawaga was for Man U. Nothing really special - I like to cut inside and pass / cross.

As a left back, I play Darmian's style. I am right footed but my left foot is not bad. I think I am better as a left back because I have very good defensive skills but I enjoy playing left wing more. For university competitions 8-9 years ago, I was left back. At high school level I was centre back.

I didn't play for almost 2 years ... marriage life :-(

I used to be a very good goalkeeper ... my uncle trained me with Tennis balls ... so my reflexes were quite good ... however, I was terrible with passing ... I played as defender/holding mifielder as well ... nothing special just strength and brute force ... I hope I play sometime soon.

I was (and still i'm) some kind of Riquelme but playing deeper (it was the time Milan were great in Europe with Pirlo so most coaches copied them) and left footed. not fast, weak, hate chasing players but great technique, always dribbled showing and hiding the ball because i think i'm slow.

Always hated when i had to play double pivot, the motherfucker on my side took my space and a passing line.

The year i enjoyed more was when i was 12 or 13 years old, the promotion one year older than us got relegated and we were just so much better than anyone else in that category, i remember we played 3-4-3 most of the games.

Marriage life is nothing. When you get kids you will know. I didn't do any sports at all, not even running, for almost 2 years.
