How to stop Off The Ball users?

I've been playing online alot these few days after a 6 month absense. Brought my rating up to 1884.

I noticed that all the higher rated people are using this extremely cheap method of scoring. It sucks and its like cheating.

I'd rather lose a match fair and square than lose to such a method of play.

Does anyone know how to counter it?

If not, is there a way to disconnect from the game without losing rating points?

The best way is to learn and perfect OTB yourself, so that you'll be on the same playing field.

how can you say off the ball is cheating?
they do it in real life, so why not in a game that *tries* to simulate a real life sport!!!????
I think you should take advice and learn how to do it, evryone else does.....

It's CERTAINLY NOT cheating. It's part of the game... it's actually an ADVANCED SKILL. It's a skill that is PART OF THE GAME... they teach you how to do it (a bit) in the manual. It's totally fair play. Learn to use it or shut your mouth.

Are they exploiting a bug in off the ball? If so thats definitely cheating, but if they're not then your just going to have too hit the track and learn how to counter it.

cheating with off the ball

I agree on the cheating part.
shooting the ball from your own keeper with 300 miles/hour to wingers
and then scoring a header where no defender has any chance: bug bug bug
It is a bug.So the people who use off the ball are cheating for sure.
So people who disagree on that , those people are the cheaters probably.
And yes , it will be a skill to use it.But stealing is also a skill , and still this isn't legal and fair to do it.

Well one way stop or slow down otb users is to not rush in and just wait till u see the right time to take the ball.

First of all I'm not good at off the ball. I barely know how to use it. I am good at using through runs and through balls though.

I agree that it may be a bug. I have never played online, so I don't know about guys using it.

But it's part of the game.

It's not cheating. It's taking advantage of a feature of the game. It may be a bug, but it's there, out in the open, and anyone and everyone knows about it, it's in the manual, and everyone is free to use it to their advantage.

You're asking a lot if you expect everyone to IGNORE a feature of the game. Why should they? Just because you aren't able--or choose not to--use off the ball?[/]

There are bugs in ALL games and all sports games. Go back to fifa02, fifa 98, nhl 95, nba 01, madden... whatever. Almost all sports games have some kind of unrealistic way to score fairly easily.

I understand if this annoys you. I understand if you're frustrated... but your problem should be with the MAKERS of the GAME. Your problem should not be with the people who are simply PLAYING the game, using the features that are IN THE GAME for everyone to use. Those people are not cheaters.

Quit before halftime and you won't lose rating points.

We should blame EA Sports (The BUG It's In The Game) not the players who use OTB-Bug!

But there are methotds to stop OTB-Bug (not 100% but you can stop it).

the league i play in has also banned the otb bug from league and cup matches..

although you can defend this by playing a 3-4-3..

I agree with you Nathan. On the other hand, it is a legal tactic (not a fun tactic in my opinion) used by people who “must win no matter what.”
I enjoy playing a game with someone who will try to keep the game on the SIM side. I don’t care about any rankings; you should not care either (unless you want to quit your day job and become a professional gamer). What is important is that you have fun, period!!!!!!!! Find some people like yourself and only play with them (or ask the person before the match if they plan to use OT. I play against my in-law (not on live) and we don’t use OTB because it makes the game less realistic (but that is just us).

Good luck finding others who enjoy realism for a change .
