Direct IP works provided that you have the following:

- Patch for F2k4 v1.1 installed
- Both you and the person you will play against have identical versions of the game. If you added patches/mods on your version and the other person does not have the same patch/mod installed the game you will eventually get disconected.

Note:

For anyone behind a firewall or router make sure you have the following ports enabled (these worked for me)

UDP 3658
TCP 10400 - 10499

Additional ports as per EA

TCP 13505
TCP 10400 - 10499
TCP 443
UDP 3658 - 3659
UDP 6000 - 6001

Playing somewhere other than EA's Matchup

UK's Premier Online IP League
For the last 4 years we have been running a Fifa Online League.
This year, there is a totally new site, featuring a Ladder and 3 Leagues, the Premiership, Serie A and Champions-League.
The site features a Chatroom , Site Messenger system and Internal email, all for contacting players and arranging matches.
We connect by IP connection, to do this you will need to download the Fifa Update patch.
Most matches are played during the evenings and at weekends.
Later, we will be introducing a dedicated server with the programming, to allow genuine 2 v 2 player matches, connecting 4 seperate pc's together, a truly different Fifa experience!
Anyway, come and check us out, before EA bring in charging for their matchup!!!
If you have any questions after joining, contact me by sending me a Private Message from Your Accout page.Im here to help you, im online , on the site, most nights , along with the regular players, my name is sneakybeaky, look forward to seeing you.

First of all if you're in India you'd better find some players from around your region like Korea, China etc.. because the connection with Europe is gonna be laggy.

If you want to know your IP: Either type "ipconfig" in a command-prompt window, or load up a FIFA game and go to the Direct IP screen where it well tell you ur ip (after installing the patch), or simply go to www.whatismyip.com
and yes it changes every time you connect to the internet.

To install the patch, go to start - programs - ea sports - fifa2004 - check for updates and it should open up a browser window and start downloading the patch.

If you're hosting then you need to give the other player your IP and wait for him to connect. And vice versa, if the other player is hosting you need to take his IP and use it to connect to his machine.
If you're hosting you should turn off any firewalls you might be using. It's also worth mentioning that the player with the better connection should host. For example if you have 56k and your opponent ADSL then he should host because otherwise the connection will be too laggy.
And yes your IP will change everytime you log on, unless you ask your ISP for a static IP which you have to pay for, but you don't really need it.

I tried to download FIFA's patch to implement the IP feature, but whenever I try to install it I get an error that says "old file does not exist" and it aborts the installation. Are there any workarounds to this?
