Yeah I was wondering the same thing, techically speaking you should be able to open them with Photoshop or so but when I do that all I see are a bunch of strange looking lines.....UC enlighten us :)

I've tried opening Iceboy's adboards, but PSP gives a useless cartload of options. You can see some lines, but nothing more. HOWEVER, I could see more than random colors, as they look the adboards.

I believe that the RAW files (either sound or image) are somewhat encoded to avoid reading from external programs.

post-edit
Not useless, but helpless options :)

Iceboy, could you please post the files in BMP or JPG or send them to me?

I can open adboards using adobe photoshop 6 only... other raw files, i can open them, but strange colours too.

When you open raw files, the program opened a menu and asked for something to key in right? I believed we need to get the correct information(to key in) to open it properly.
Waiting patiently for UC guys to reply.

Raw files are exactly that. Raw data. They're not encrypted, there's no header, there's just data. They're probably 256x256 pixel 3 channel RGB interleaved.

You can open them in Photoshop 5 or 6, or anything that will handle raw data, which really should be all art packages, or any that are worth anything.

the problem is that they dont contain the kit texture, just a load of colours mushed up, i tried putting the files in newkit directory like you said, but in the game they come out all mushed up. SO thats the real problem, the system just dont work.

..and you're saving them out in exactly the correct format?

Try taking the kits that we know work and place them in the newkits directly without you modifying them. If they work fine then you're screwing them up when you save them.

this is what i did, this is why the system has to be wrong, the normal files dont even work.

For open the adboards in PSP:

256x256
Three channel RGB
Header: 0
Interleaved (RGB RGB...)
Order RGB

If it's any consolation, I used BMPs instead of RAWs in the PS2 version, and I kept on telling Steve to stop using RAWs on the PC as it was more hassle than it was worth. I think he's slowly coming round to my way of thinking ! Maybe there'll be nice easily editable BMPs and TGAs in the next game. (Go one Steve, you know it makes sense !)
