Try this buying a cheap player with the same number of the player you wish to change...
Sometimes it won't work, so be sure to try cheap players
I had the same problem last week. I signed with Schevcheko, but Nakata was already with the number 7, so he used the 2.
I've just signed other player with number 2 and Schevenko changed to 16.
It's not what I expected but it's cool!
