Help wanted with training.

O.K, so I am to training what Joseph Stalin was to community spirit and I would really appreciate some help from those of you who have it sussed. Here are my requests for info etc:

A) What is the best training programme out there and what (if known) is the download link for it?

B) How long should I leave players on any given schedule? At the moment I can't seem to leave any of them on anything for more that a week without their arrows turning red. Is this normal?

C) I have around 8-10 coaches at my current club, Torquay (which has good facilities now). Should I have all coaches working on all schedules or spread them out, for example one coach for attackers, one for the defenders schedule etc?

I know it's not my players that are the problem as I have looked and most are reasonably young and have potential much greater than they currently have, but I can't seem to improve their stats. They go up slightly and then back down again to where they were. I am just a bit clueless in this area.

Thanks in advance.

Darren.

Oooh, I know some answers to this, but Tom's the expert...

A) I can not give you a real opinion about the best one, as I haven't played long enough games on FM.

B) The arrows only show differences in stats over a short span, while you're trying to achieve a long term result. By no means base your opinion about a schedule on the arrows. It's best to take screenshots of several players before and after using the schedule for 4-6 months, even a year. You can even try different schedules in parallel games, if you want to get real hardcore.

C) Use 2 or 3 different coaches per group, works just fine. And add physios to reduce the number of injuries during the training.

Extra: The potential vs current ability is more of an experience factor in this game. In the training you train to raise the "high range" stats. Mental and hidden stats, and a couple physical and technical stats, only go up with experience. If at all.

Personally i believe a variation on Cleon's original FM05 training schedule is the best, you can find it here

if for some reason that link doesnt work, go to community.sigames.com , then head for the tactics and training thread and look for a thread called CH training schedule by Cleon.

I recommend ammending each of these for your own use though, as i dont think his original ones are THAT perfect.

B) How long should I leave players on any given schedule? At the moment I can't seem to leave any of them on anything for more that a week without their arrows turning red. Is this normal?

perfectly normal, but not good if they're always red :D You can leave someone on a schedule for years, FM's training regime is being revamped for 06 due to this problem. I would suggest making a few schedules for each position, and changing little things inside each schedule every few weeks, just small things such as "technique" to "shooting" for a fortnight. During the off-season you should let players off training for around a month (mid june to mid july usually). As Ruud said, dont worry about the arrows; they are an archaic thing dating back to CM00/01 and they havent been improved since, they are utterly useless and should be disregarded at most times.

C) I have around 8-10 coaches at my current club, Torquay (which has good facilities now). Should I have all coaches working on all schedules or spread them out, for example one coach for attackers, one for the defenders schedule etc?

Ok lets make this question into an example, lets say you have a 8 coaches and 2 physios, you have a goalkeepers, defenders, midfielders and attackers schedules. Lets say you put first team, reserves and youth players on one of these schedules.

You should be aiming for 1 or 2 coaches with GOOD "coaching goalkeepers" ability on the goalkeepers schedule, nothing more than that.

Aim for 2 on the defenders, 2 on the midfielders and 2 on the attackers, dont bother applying coaches to more than one regime, it will simply lessen their effect.

HOWEVER, at smaller clubs with 3 or 4 coaches it is better to stretch the coaches over a few schedules rather than just bunging them all on one massive general schedule for all players. Remember this.

I know it's not my players that are the problem as I have looked and most are reasonably young and have potential much greater than they currently have, but I can't seem to improve their stats. They go up slightly and then back down again to where they were. I am just a bit clueless in this area.

Wait and see Darren, if they havent improved much over 1 or 2 years then you're doing something drastically wrong, dont expect players attributes to go up after a few weeks or months though, give it time. Also, its worth remembering that match experience plays a far bigger part in improving attributes than training can ever do, the more matches your wonderkid 17yr old players the quicker he will reach his maximum potential.

Well....seems that I've managed to get just about everything wrong training-wise. The manual is vague to say the least on the subject. Thanks for taking the time to write that lot out lads. Most helpful. I'll implement the suggestions and let you know how things go. Thanks again.

A good training schedule generally contains a lot of overloading and quite some set pieces too. I never really change my training schedule btw, i played 8 years with 1 team, and it still worked.

exactly my point; changing training helps but FM's actual programming of it diabolical, expect a serious improvement in FM06 (trust me :ewan: :ewan: )
