>> Did EA acquire the Champions League license as promised?
No, but then I don't remember them promising it (I think that was someone on these boards leading you astray).
I got 2005 for the Xbox today; greatest FIFA ever. First touch is a brilliant innovation, it is to football games what total punch control is to boxing games (Fight Night 2004).
My two favourite goals so far:
1) Gudjohnsen shot on the edge of the area, defender puts a leg out to block, takes a wicked deflection, keeper is already committed diving left, watches it fly over him.
2) Robben puts in a low driven ball, Drogba at the near post slots it home (very realistic animations were most impressive).
I'm still on amateur (always start new FIFAs at amateur and work up to world class) and scoring a little too easily from outside the box, but 2004 was the same til I got to semi pro.
Overall, graphics are incredible, licenses incredible (even if I do feel they left out some decent Eastern European sides unfairly), sounds incredible (though I'm not sure if it tops FIFA 2003 yet, that had amazing atmosphere!). Very happy.
Only one small problem. No alternative commentary! FIFA 2003, I could switch the language in options to French, Spanish, German or Italian - and get the commentary to go with it. They took it out for FIFA 2004 (Australian Xbox version) and they've done it again for 2005.
If the PAL Xbox version comes out in Europe with alternate languages, can someone let me know, and I'll order a copy. I got my copy here for nothing (trading in old games), so I can sell it to a mate for a few dollars short of retail and get a EU copy. It really adds to the experience hearing "GOOOOL!", "TORRRR!" or "BUUUT!"
