i returned into a strong fifa 14 playing habit in the last few weeks. since then, i discovered a lot of things i could tweak that turned this into the most awesome football game ever for me.

this is the content of a slider building thread i made in the operationsports forums three years ago, with all my recent sliders, game settings and ini tweaks added to it now. i decided to post it here, since this seems to be the place with strongest activity of fifa 14 players on the internet at the moment.

Home field advantage specific tweak:

this can be used regardless of customizing the other sliders or not and work with assisted controls as well. increase 2 points in pass error for the away team and decrease 2 points in pass error for the home team. example for default sliders: 48/52 pass error home, 52/48 pass error away. this tweak has already been tested through a decent sample of games, with very realistic effects on home/away records.



this slider set is the result of an obsessive work of hundreds of hours of testing and more than one hundred pages of discussion at the operationsports forums (thank you, community!). the goal was getting as close to realism as we could without making the game stagnant. i love football and i just tried to emulate what i see on the pitch. even side by side comparisons with real games on a second monitor were made (helps a lot with positioning sliders). of course, there's no way to make a football video game not stagnant without letting player movement be at least a bit faster than real life, but i think we reached a good middle ground here.

then after that, i tried to achieve balance in stats and performance between myself and the cpu (as far as the game would allow me to). milimetric difficulty dialing, so the game would never get old. this is what i always wanted in sports games and i'm very happy that the inclusion of sliders in fifa made this a very possible task.

so be aware that these settings are tuned to my own skill level and they might be too easy or too hard depending on how good (or not good) you are in the game.

the most effective slider for changing difficulty level is pass error (one of the reasons why i used it to adjust home advantage). if difficulty isn't good, you may wish to tweak it one way or the other, until you find a better balance. if you personalize your difficulty using pass error but still want to have home advantage in your games, just keep the offset of -2 user pass error and +2 cpu pass error when you play home and +2 user pass error and -2 cpu pass error when you play away.

GONIRA'S CAREER MODE TWEAKS FOR FIFA 14 PC VERSION:

the tweaks below require that the files playerretirement.ini and simsettings.ini are extracted into your fifa folder. their path is fifa14\game\dlc\dlc_footballcompeng\dlc\footballcompeng\data. if the files aren't there, you'll need to extract them from data1.big with jenkey's file explorer tool.

after you extract them and make the edits, you need to regenerate data1 so the game reads the edited files, or you can use fifa file loader instead. google file explorer and file loader if you're not into editing fifa.



Improving simulated results and league tables

Custom half lenght and fatigue correction (not needed if you don't use these sliders)

- open the file cl.ini, located at the fifa14\game folder. if the file doesn't exist, create it with notepad.

- copy these values to it:


HALF_LENGTH=13
AI_SETTING_HALFLENGTH=13


this forces the half lenght to 13 minutes, the ideal half lenght for this slider set. any change to the half lenght in the settings screen will be overriden.

- now go to the game settings and change the half lenght to 10 minutes. this is a very clever trick to make fatigue work right. a reduced acceleration slider makes players get less tired. if you follow these instructions, the game will think you're playing 10 minute halves, but you'll actually be playing 13 minute halves and as a result, players will start to get tired again, close to default values.

(if you don't use my modded simsettings posted in the previous tweak, make it 12 minutes in cl.ini and 9 minutes in the game settings, to keep goal scoring balanced with the simulated games)



Player retirement age fix

fifa has some stupid retirement logic. players with good ratings and ages as low as 29 are often announcing retirement. to fix this, save these values to the "player_retirement" and "player_regen" sections of playerretirement.ini:

Modded broadcast camera

this is for those that, like me, like the idea of using a fixed camera, but can't deal with the angle of the default broadcast camera. it gives kind of a zoomed in vision of a person sitting on the upper stands.

Update: as in January 2017, I'm not using this camera anymore, because i find the tilt to make the game too hard to deal with manual controls, but I'm keeping it on the thread for those who like it.

Form calculations rebalanced (exclusive for this slider set, can make bad things happen in lower half lenghts)

our players always have super awesome form because their ratings are too good, even when our results are subpar. this seems to be a side effect of longer half lenght. i couldn't find a way to make our own ratings more fair, but i managed to raise what the game considers a normal rating, and it ultimately does the same job.

save these values into the "form_defaults" section of formsettings.ini:

and these into the "player_eval" section:

unfortunately, we have to set a high minimum playing time for ratings to be considered into the form calculations (default is 20 minutes and i decided to set it to 40), otherwise our substitutes will be severely penalised, even if they don't play too bad. a player still enters the match with a 6.0 rating, but with a longer half time to receive points, he has a tendency to receive a very good rating as standard. in the other hand, if he only goes to the pitch at the 70th minute, he can't take advantage of this and will have bad form in the next game for no reason if we use this tweak but don't do this.

ok? now save these values into the "match_ratings" section of simsettings.ini, so the ratings of our opponents in simulated games are proportionally raised. now the other teams have ratings as good as ours. if we don't do this after the changes in formsettings, opponents form will always be super poor.

(if you don't like the idea of not seeing a player's form ever change if you don't start him or bring him in at half-time, but also don't want to have an unfair advantage against the cpu, you may also remove form completely from the career mode. to do this, just change the "bad" and "neutral" numbers in the "player_eval" section to extreme values, like 10 and 90)



all these settings can be applied to ongoing careers with immediate effects
