Does anybody else here play golf? I played my first round of golf 10 days ago and since then I've played 4 more times. I always thought golf was interesting but I just never had the opportunity to play it since it is so expensive. However, one of my best friends got a job at a golf course this summer and we play for free all the time (H)(Y)

I had my best score today, shot a 133 for a par 72, 18 hole course which sounds horrible, I know, but I only started playing golf 10 days ago so I think it's pretty damn good.

I don't have a set of clubs yet, I've been playing with another friends' clubs the entire time (except for one game where we got some of the ones available to rent in the clubhouse, $1800 clubs, those were some sweet babies). I've been looking online for a complete set in the $100-$200 range and believe it or not I'm finding a lot of starter kits in that range. They arent Titlist, Callaway, Nike or Taylor-Made but for where I am right now I don't need anything better.

Anyways, if you guys ever get the chance don't miss the opportunity of getting into this great game. It is a blast when you're out there playing 18 holes with 2-3 buddies and a case of beer (H)(Y).

First of all, you are terrible. (H)

Don't practice driving and chipping anywhere near as often as you practice putting. If you can putt, you can be awful with a club, but still get decent scores.

Secondly, when you find a nice set of clubs, send me a link. I used to go with my dad and grandpa all the time and some pretty nice courses when I was maybe 13 and 14, but haven't golfed in about 10 years and really want to get back into it. If you get a set in the $100-200 range, and they feel nice for awhile, definitely let me know.

Hahaha finally someone says it (H)(Y)

Yes I know I am but come on, you have to agree that that is not bad seeing as I've only played for like two weeks, right?

If you are routinely 4 putting, that's understandable. If it's taking you 5 hits to get to the green, you got some problems.

On par 3's I get it on the green 4 out of 5 times in one hit, I'm great on par 3's, it's the par 5's that kill me. You see I haven't learned how to hit with fairway woods very weel and I try to complete par 5's with irons which is why it usually takes me 5-6 hits just to get it on the green for par 5's :(. I've been going to the range but not nearly enough. I actually routinely 2 and 3 putt so I'm not THAT bad at it.

Also I should mention that the course I've been playing at has three par 4's that should definitely be par 5's so those three holes plus the other 4 par 5's **** me up. If all 18 were par 3's I'm pretty sure I'd be close to par haha

Exactly, short-game, short-game, short-game. Work in from about 50 yards, but spend a lot of time putting. Dont worry about the driver, it will come. Once you can knock it in the hole consistently from on and around the green, you don't need to worry much about the drive.

I just need to get consistency into my driving. I will hit 10 right down the middle in a row and then I'll slice the hell out of a ball and then I'm automatically two strokes back. I'm playing again tomorrow (Y)

Yep, driving can be an ass. But just concentrate on a good swing and dont worry as much how far you hit it, just keep it straight. Eventually it'll come (6)

I've been golfing with my father and his buddies from time to time over the last couple of years, and let me just say.....I fetch the beer/water really well....that's usually the best part of my game...along with telling dirty jokes.

So I've come in the possesion of this book called "Ben Hogan's Five Lessons, The Modern Fundamentals of Golf"

It was written in the 50s but holy crap has it helped my swing. Amazing book if you're trying to improve your game.

By the way I shot a 124 today, it still sucks but I improved by 9 strokes from my previous best and I swear it's all because of that book.
