Adios Riera

After weeks of rumours, the official Bordeaux website announced today the departure of Albert Riera. The midfielder has left Girondins de Bordeaux to return to his country where he signed for Espanyol. He passed his medical tests today and will be presented tomorrow officially. The 23-year-old arrives at Espanyol for a fee of €3 million and has signed a four-year deal at the Spanish outfit.

Together with Riera, also former Bordelais Eduardo Costa has signed for Espanyol.

Camel has hump at Sevilla link

Girondins de Bordeaux midfielder Camel Meriem has poured cold water on reports of a move to Sevilla.

The Primera outfit revealed last week that the 25-year-old was one of their chief summer transfer targets.

They have already seen an offer for the playmaker rejected, but are still pursuing him.

However, Meriem himself insists he is not seeking a move from Bordeaux and hinted he would be looking for a bigger stage than Sevilla if he did choose to move on.

"I have never had any with a Sevilla official," he told L'Equipe.

"I just know that the club is interested in me, but it is a long way from being my priority.

"If I leave it will be for an attractive sporting challenge - I won't just go anywhere.

"If I leave Bordeaux it will be for a great club."

Bordeaux chairman Jean-Louis Triaud confirmed the club had received an offer from Sevilla, but insisted they had rejected it out of hand and had fielded no further contact.

"Sevilla made a proposition by fax, but we could not accept it and I have not signed anything," Triaud stated.

"If Sevilla officials say they met us, they are lying."

Victorious over Parisiens

The tough preparation programme of coach Ricardo led the Girondins to big opponents. The second pre-season friendly was tonight against Paris Saint Germain. It became the first winning match of the season, a 2-0 victory! Lilian Laslandes and prospect Ted Lavie scored the goals. New signing Bruno Cheyrou played his first match for the Bordelais. Comparing with the first friendly were Kodjo Afanou and Mathieu Valverrde added to the selection. Marouane Chamakh, Vladimir Smicer and Frédéric Roux had not joined the selection in Dax. They stayed home to regain their full fitness. Former PSG player Laurent Leroy was also still training in Bordeaux and also joined the friendly.

Raikkonen said:
are you still after Deivid (Santos)?

Ricardo (new coach) would like than deivid return in Bordeaux but Deivid doesn't like french championship so not news at now...

Brazilian marksman Deivid has all but ruled out a return to France with Bordeaux. The striker is currently out on loan at Santos - but no permanent deal has been arranged.

"The coach that recommended me to Bordeaux isn't there any more," explained Deivid.

"As I haven't had a discussion with the new coach I don't think there is a realistic chance of returning to Bordeaux. I don't even want to think about that chance. I know that I have to resolve where I will continue playing in June. I hope it is at Santos because I don't want to go back to Bordeaux. Another option is to go to another European team - but there is plenty of time to weigh up my options."

Monaco get their Camel Meriem

French international midfielder Camel Meriem signed for 2004 Champions League finalists Monaco for a fee believed to be around 6.5 million euros from Bordeaux, the selling club revealed.

The 25-year-old, three-times capped playmaker began his career at Sochaux before moving to Bordeaux for eight million euros - where he scored in their League Cup victory in 2002.

Meriem lost confidence, however, and was loaned to Marseille - where he was part of the team that reached the 2004 UEFA Cup final but they did not take up the option to buy him - and back again for a second spell at Bordeaux.

However his departure became inevitable when the new Bordeaux manager Ricardo said Meriem, who has scored 14 goals in 147 championship appearances, was not part of his plans.

Bordeaux rejected Monaco's initial offer over the weekend, but have now relented to accept a fee in the region of €6.5 million.

The schemer is due to sign his contract with Monaco on Tuesday and is delighted to be linking up with Didier Deschamps's side.

"Monaco was my first choice," commented Meriem.
"Like the club, I am very ambitious. I aim to make the 2006 World Cup. "I hope to play in my preferred position, but I am versatile and I know I will adapt."

bye bye Camel ! :ewan:

Victory over Spanish giants

The third pre-season friendly of the Girondins de Bordeaux was against Spanish giants Valencia. The match in the Mestella stadium was against the same opponent as two seasons ago in the UEFA Cup. Former Bordelais Marco Caneira was transferred to the Spanish club, and the match was therefore easily arranged.

After the 2-0 victory over Paris Saint Germain, the Girondins also beated the Spanish with a 0-1 away victory. Jean Claude Darcheville was the big man at Bordeaux side, scoring the only goal of the match. It were the first appearances of striker Marouane Chamakh and new signing Vladimir Smicer for the Bordelais. Coach Ricardo played with the usual 4-4-2 line-up but missed the transferred wingers Riera and Meriem.

De Tavernost: Grand plans for Bordeaux

Source: Sky Sports

Nicolas de Tavernost is looking to turn Bordeaux into a competitive force in Ligue 1. Les Girondins have struggled to make much of an impact in recent seasons, but de Tavernost, who is the chairman of the club's major shareholder M6, is looking to restore past glories. De Tavernost is keen to strengthen the squad and says the aim for next term is to secure a place in Europe.

"Our players' group is not settled," he told L'Equipe. "We can still imagine several reinforcements. "The Bordeaux club budget is about €39 million. With such a sum, we can have a competitive professional team. Bordeaux has the sixth biggest Le Championnat budget. But why are we always talking about money? With €39 million, a club can work fine.

"If we wanted to make some business, it would have been easy to accept the Lyon proposition for Marouane Chamakh. "It is true we underwent two bad seasons. Now it is up to chairman Jean-Louis Triaud to set the aims. But we have a budget to aim at a European spot."

Friendly win over Portsmouth
July 20, 2005

The Girondins de Bordeaux played their friendly pre-season match against Portsmouth yesterday. A 3-1 victory was the result. Vladimir Smicer, Julien Faubert and youngster Mamadou Baldé were on the scoring sheet for the Bordelais. Frenchman Laurent Robert scored a penalty for Pompey early in the match.

Bordeaux coach Ricardo uses his new signings Perea and Alonso in second half. Bordeaux definitely show their fitness and advanced state of preparation comparing with the opponent. The preparation for the new season is still without a defeat. That gives hope for the new season. The Girondins will continue their preparation travelling to Italy for the next friendlies.

Sporting dig deep for Deivid
July 21, 2005

Sporting Clube de Portugal have signed Brazilian forward Deivid from FC Girondins de Bordeaux for a reported €3m fee. Deivid is believed to have signed a four-year deal with the 2005 UEFA Cup finalists, who enter this season's UEFA Champions League in the third qualifying round, and will link up with compatriot Liedson in the Sporting front line.

Deivid de Souza arrived at Bordeaux from Cruzeiro EC in 2003, ostensibly as a replacement for the Paris Saint-Germain FC-bound Pauleta. However, he never lived up to billing, scoring just three times in 23 Ligue 1 outings before being loaned to Santos FC.

During a season and a half back in his homeland, Deivid fared better, registering 26 goals in 48 games and dovetailing with Brazil starlet Robinho. His strikes helped Santos win the 2004 Brazilian championship.

There were long rumours about a permanent stay of the Brazilian striker at Santos. He liked the club and was not keen on a return to Bordeaux. Santos offered the Bordelais a fee around the €2M but could not compete with the offer from the Portugese giants that was accepted by the Girondins de Bordeax directors.

Laurent Leroy succesful trialist
July 21, 2005

Frenchman Laurent Leroy was offered a 1-year deal by the Girondins de Bordeaux directors. The former PSG ace trained already for weeks at the club where he asked to work on his fitness while looking for a new club. Bordeaux coach Ricardo already knows Leroy from their PSG time and gave the 29-year old striker permission to train with the selection. Leroy also played in the pre-season friendlies and may wear the Marine and Blanc shirt now under contract.

Laurent Leroy is a product from the famous Cannes centre formation and plays for PSG, Troyes, Guingamp, Neuchatel Xamax (Swi). He returned to Cannes last season but suffered from injuries and his contract was not extended. The forward who could also play as offensive midfielder made a good impression during the friendlies and was therefore offered a contract.

Girondins de Bordeaux made a flying start to the new Ligue 1 season on Saturday with a 2-0 win against 10-man Marseille at the Stade Velodrome. Julien Faubert opened the visitor's account in the 16th minute when he latched on to a cross from Jean-Claude Darcheville to volley past Marseille keeper Cedric Carrasso.

Marseille, fifth last season, seemed tame against an enthusiastic Bordeaux, which barely stayed in first division in May. Marseille's Frederic Dehu then saw red for a professional foul on Marouane Chamakh in the 53rd minute, and Bordeaux wrapped up all three points a minute before time when Darcheville turned provider again for youngster Pierre Ducasse. Ducasse made his debut for the Girondins and the high prospect confirmed with scoring his first goal too.

Not a debut in the Division 1, but for the Marine and Blanc; new signings Vladimir Smicer and Bruno Cheyrou. Man of the match was definitely Jean-Claude Darcheville who confirmed his good pre-season form.

Marseille have not won a league match since March.
"We are really disappointed with the defeat in our first league match," said Marseille midfielder Franck Ribery. "It confirms that it's going to be a tough season. "We are still aiming at finishing in the first three positions to qualify for the Champions League next year."

Bordeaux midfielder Bruno Cheyrou said: "For us it's a dream start. We had talked a lot about this game against Marseille. It's always something special to come and win here."

Marseille coach Jean Fernandez said his players looked tired after a 1-1 draw in the first leg of their Intertoto Cup semi-final against Lazio in Rome on Wednesday. "Our physical shape was one of the keys to the game," Fernandez said. "And when we found ourselves reduced to 10 men, the odds were obviously against us

Brazilian youngster Henrique will be the new defender of the Girondins de Bordeaux. The directors of Bordeaux announced the signing of the Latino today. Carlos Henrique dos Santos Souza, short-named Henrique is the successor of Greek international Michalis Kapsis who returned to Greece. Henrique signed a 5-year contract and was playing at Flamengo in his home-country Brazil.

Bordeaux coach Ricardo knows the 22-year old player from their time at the Brazilian club. Henrique has played 69 matches for Flamengo. The central defender is in form since the competition in Brazil started a long time ago. He has to compete with the duo Planus and Afanou for the central position in the defence and will be included in the Latino-flavoured selection of Bordeaux coach Ricardo. He will wear the jersey with number 3 formerly weared by Marco Caneira.

Great start (Y) Bordeaux was simply better than us for the first game. Well done, 6 points in 2 games, it seems like a surprise even if I think you knew your team capacities.
