That supposed foul on Cannavaro against Podolski was inside the box so it should have been a penatly but apart from that the ref was class.

People are giving Italy too much credit for this win. Germany owned the entire second half and the first half was just about 50-50. If anything, Italy deserves an award for diving and acting like they got a serious injury after every single foul in the second half, when the game totally got away from them.

Disappointed in the result. Several Italians should have been sent off for diving repeatedly. It just doesn't seem fair that a team so riddled with corruption is even IN the World Cup, let alone in the final. I wish FIFA had taken a strong stance like the Tour de France and ejected Italy immediately after the match-fixing and betting scandals broke, but Blatter only cares about his wallet, not the integrity of the game.

But at the same time, seeing Lehmann go out was satisfying.

This Italian backline is fast becoming legendary, its looked almost invincible for most of the tournament only letting in that freakish own goal. Much of that success is down to the amazing hardwork of Cannavaro, the guy is an absolute rock. It might take the genius of someone like Zidane or Deco to break the Italians down but they'll have to play the game of their lives to do it.

Germany had been written off before just about every game they'd played, but they kept coming up with the results and exceeding all expectations, and they almost carried this game to another penalty shootout, and its unlike them to concede a goal so late in the game. I think the win over Argentina had its toll on them as they looked well spent towards the end. The German preparation for this tournament wasn't exactly ideal, with a bit more time under Klinsmann I think they've still got a lot of improvement in them yet. They should look even better for Euro 2008.

Once again congrats to Italy, and good to see Lippi continuing to push for that winning goal, unlike Pekerman who settled for penalties towards the end. I think this game also puts Australia's performances in perspective, they did really well to hold Italy down for so long even with a man advantage.

BUT Italy played a lot better than Germany. Pirlo was MOM for me. That pass for the first goal was genius.

he made a lot of those passes my friend, he was pure genious out there. at times it looked like a clinic.

LOL I was think about that guy almost every time Grosso touched the ball. I didn't realize that Grosso was the goal scorer until 1/2 an hour after the game cause I and 600 other Italians were going insane.
