I was having trouble with FIFA 2006, the game crashed everytime I tried to use a gamepad.
I have 2 PS2 controllers connected to my PC via an USB adapter. They work perfectly with every game I have on my PC, but whenever I tried to play FIFA 2006, the game would just crash right after loading. I figured out the problem was when using the gamepads because the game would not crash when using the keyboard.
After some researching, I realized this problem seems to happen only to people who use the "No CD/DVD patch". Hence, the fix to this problem is quite simple:
You can restore the FIFA06.exe file from your CD/DVD and use the original disc, OR you can use a working fixed exe file. You can find this file on GameCopyWorld site, look for the file that reads something like "Gamepad fixed exe".
By doing that procedure I am now able to play using my PS2 controllers on my PC. It works no matter what type of controller you have. Now you can store your original disc in a safe place.
I hope this helps you out. I know there are many people out there having this problem.
