Game continually crashes while loading for a match

G'day all. I've been a big fan of the FIFA series ever since I got FIFA 94 over 12 years ago, and have regularly updated over the past few years. I bought and installed FIFA 06 tonight and so far all I've had are problems with it.

The first time I fired it up and got to the menu where you choose a side, the choices kept scrolling repeatedly and quickly, to the point where I couldn't choose anything. After a bit of troubleshooting and searching of these forums I worked out that the problem was apparently my Logitech Cordless Keyboard and Mouse, which I thought was strange.

I ended up getting a patch from the EA Denmark site (as well as on the EA US site, though it was bloody hard to find). So I installed it, and it did fix my scrolling through the menus problem. But now when I try and play a game, it crashes just as finish all my team selections and get to the loading screen for a match. I haven't been able to find a resolution to this issue yet. Can anyone help?

Otherwise this game is heading straight to the bin and I'll be getting the Konami Winning Eleven game instead. I assume there's a roster patch for that already?

My specs are:

2Ghz Pentium M
NVIDIA GeForce GO6200
1GB SDRAM
15GB HD space
Logitech Rumblepad USB

THis was answered before somewhere, you have to go inside the Control Panel and disable whatever input device makes the options flicker like mad. For me it was some device that doesn't seem to do anything, my mouse, keyboard, and touchpad are all still active.

I had crashes only when databases conflict, but that's only if you use the creation centre.

I did fix the flicker problem with the patch. But I can't seem to fix the crashing problem. I tried unplugging my Rumblepad and using the keyboard, but it still crashed.

Really annoying problem, this...I'm reluctant to get the WC version of FIFA 06 now, because it might not work...

Having the same problem. I have the same gamepad as you and it does actually work when I start playing with the keyboard but I want to play with my gamepad.

I somehow managed to get it to work ONCE - so I know that it will work on my system. I updated my drivers and followed the instruction in the manual to disable antivirus and kill all nonessential background tasks (excluding those for LOCAL SYSTEM, SYSTEM and NETWORK. I got it to load and was able to play a couple of matches late last night.

But then when I tried it again today it's farked up on me again!! I've done exactly the same thing that I did last night but for some reason it's not working. I do notice that the music from FIFA06 has disappeared as well - it's not playing, and when I check my playlist in My FIFA 06 it's disappeared from there as well.

Just updating my own thread to try and help others out there. I managed to find a fix for my problem - I don't know which of these actions fix it, and there appears to be an element of randomness as well, but I managed to get it working again (though it doesn't work all the time). Here's what I did (in this order):

1. Rebooted my PC.
2. Unplugged my USB Logitech Rumblepad.
2. Disabled my Norton Internet Security.
3. Disabled my Norton Antivirus Auto-Protect.
4. Logged off my NAV.
5. Went to Task Manager and did an End Process on everything that had my username on it, excluding CCAAP.exe (I couldn't end this for some reason), taskmgr.exe and explorer.exe. I also excluded everything that was a NETWORK, SYSTEM or LOCAL SYSTEM process.
6. Re-plugged in my Rumblepad.
7. Fired up FIFA 06.

Now this is where the element of randomness comes in. If I can hear the FIFA soundtrack playing, then it means that I'll be able to play a game. If not, I just have to start the entire process all over again.

Hope this helps people - it might not work for you, but it might be worth a shot, seeing as we all have to find our own workarounds to play (and there don't seem to be too many on this specific problem).

I must be cursed or something to have so many issues with my game. Now I'm having a problem with my mouse cursor getting stuck during the Team Management screens during a game. It gets stuck at a point and then I can't see where my mouse it. I've been forced to use my gamepad to make substitutions (I randomly pressed keys to work out which keys did what) but I can't change formations as I don't know which key selects the Formations button. I'm guessing this is related to the Logitech Cordless controller bug? I have a cordless mouse and keyboard.

Hey everyone.

I had the options flickering problem which I managed to correct by installing the official patch. The problem I now have is that every time I try to play with my gamepad the game crashes right after loading a match. The only possible way to play is by unplugging the gamepads which I do not want to do.

Has anyone found a fix for this problem? I have 2 original PS2 controllers connected through an USB adapter. These game controllers work perfectly with every single game I have on my PC, including emulators.

The controllers were already listed on the devdata.dat file, so I didn't edit it.

Any help on this issue will be greatly appreciated. :boohoo:

I have the same problem and I tried disabling Norton Antivirus and Ending the processes in the task manager and still the game is not working. It is so wierd that it crashes when loading the match and there is no music on the main screen. I hope someone finds a solution soon. The game works randomly and i haven't been able to play it for 2 days now.

had excatly same problem with saitek 3000.

you need the 'gamepad patch'

it replaces original fifa.exe but it was only way i could get it to work, even with original game - its pathetic when you have to resort to cracking an original game to get it to work.
