In pro mode I loose the ball in quite every contrast with a CPU player, who, on the contrary, can get past 3-4 of my defenders without loosing ball control (even if the CPU team is very weak) and seems to remain untouched by my useless takles (I press the D key).

Should I press another key together with the contrast key D?

i had the same problem.so,i use D but i mostly tackle from side.if i go from front AI changes path and skips past my defenders.
the correct thing to do is to use C and then use D to stop the attacker.

Heh, pardon my swearing, but one thing that bugs the **** out of me for both 07 and 08 is the CPU on your team backs off an on-coming attacker 90% of the time, letting him come through on goal, Yes when your on the attack, 3-4 of they're defenders quickly close you down, another thing that annoys me is when an AI team player seems to run infront of you and take the ball without even a sniff of a tackle.

Also id love to point out, the new GK mode is a complete load of crap since they're really isnt a decent camera angle to play as GK, otherwise id be all over this feature.


Lastly, is it just me or do the FIFA 08 kits SUCK! also whats the rectangle on the logo of 90% of the kits?

Mate of course the kits s*** once the producers come up with such a messed up template!!! I mean it's pretty weird compared to the 07 one and I bet half of the metiocre kitamkers of EA didn't even have an idea of how to use the template, like finding the right proportions for logos, etc.

Luckily we have this awesome forum where talented editors create fantastic things to be replaced by in the game! :D

I feel your frustrations as well. This has got to be the hardest installment of FIFA ever. Apart from what is mentioned by the TS, I think this game is like playing against GOD. I don't know if its just me, but the AI for the goalkeeper is just ridiculous. I set the goalkeeper AI down to semi-pro and he saves all my one to one situations. I have had about close to 10 shots.. and yes, I've tried the finesse shot combo as well.

I play on professional mode... they are down to 10 men and with me having almost 90% of the possesion, I fail to score. They get a break.. and they slot one home at the last minute. It happens almost all the time as though its scripted. They usually score on you at the closing minutes of the game.

Now if there's anyone who has some tips and tricks on controls or knows any changes in settings that may help in bringing back the balance, please do post it up here. (:/)

Well, it will take time to get off of fifa 07, the game play is really hard. Goal keeper is something out of the world compared to fifa 07. But this game is really about accuracy. Try using Q when u get the ball, u'r players will make spaces so that u can have better move and shot. Try not to get shot from centre, it 90% saved by GK, and even if u'r trying to get shot from centre try it hard, get power bar to half or more (u will know by some practice). When one on one try a slower shot, it will probably get u a rebound. Try chip shot more (Z+D default), as its much more better then 07 and controlled.

I Play it multilayer all the time and its hard like hell, average gaols are 1. And 2 out of 3 matches go to penalty shoot out damn.

I have to agree the AI of your team reacts slower, especially from set pieces, dead balls, goal keeper throw outs and example throw ins are frustrating, when your player chests the ball to control it before u make a move the computer snatches it away...

It also feels like u are playing against 6-7 in the box defenders and I have not seen any changes when u go ahead by 3 goals, prob need to do some modifcation of squad tactics of your team and opposing teams, crosses go in but headers seem to be soft or go over the bar if u can hit one against what is pretty much always a very crowded box ....

Substitutions well so far i have noticed the computer changes 3 subs in last 3minutes of the game. Once i was leading 3 - 1 and the changes where 3 at same time with 7 mins to go...

I think there is lack of ball shielding like in Pro evo, where u can hold the ball
up while, I have not had a time to try all trick stuff maybe there is something in there. I just changed and got it on 360 now, Pc version is not nice, the ball looks too big and looks like they are kicking a huge lollipop....

I will still give it a go use different type of play like stony suggested to get around these probs and I edited my team made them all out attack and pushed up manually players and defence up high in my new formation 3-4-1-2 and i have scored some nice goals..

CPU cheats again, i hoped FIFA is a realistic sim of footy this year, now im having doubts whether i should get it or not. Can you play this game for longer than an hour ? or is it just like 07 where I would start a match and half way through it I'd just turn the console off coz it get's very frustraiting ?

Heh @last comment, good thing about 08 is that you can alt-f4 it, couldnt do that in 07... and yes, its probably 50% more frustrating. Im probably gonna uninstall it soon and wait for call of duty 4. Coz this installment sucks

There is for example, a button in control settings(call 2nd or call defence as in every fifa) which calls another defender to help while you still control yours. So dont write stupid stuff before you learn how to play.

If you are looking for the button for FIFA 08 360 it is the B button. That calls in a 2nd defender.


I think if you could just have some sliders to adjust the pressure the CPU puts on you in different zones it would be a big help. Sliders for CPU tackle effectiveness would be nice as well.

Most importantly as mentioned above by roxus a SHIELD button would be so so so much more useful than the ability to juggle the ball or do rocastles.

I'm not sure whether this is true, but it seems to me this year they've made it slightly harder to take the ball with a soft tackle and a lot easier to win it with a slide tackle. If you'd been trained by previous versions to virtually never slide in because little good could come from it, try switching that up in this one. You'll still get some bookings of course, but you'll also have situations where you pop up from the slide with the ball at your feet.
