Frame rate slows

Hi guys...

I normally don't post in here...but I wanted to see if any of you all could help me. This has just started happening in the last month or so. I'm playing a game (Any of the EA sports games I have) and after about 5 minutes, I hear the hard drive kick on...the sound track sounds like it's under water and the frame rate slows way down. I had been able to clean some of this up by doing the "three finger salute", bringing up the task manager, and turning off several processes. Now, the processes tab and all the other tabs have disappeared from my task manager. All it shows is what program is running...and nothing else.

My computer is older...runs at 512 meg of ram...but I have never had trouble running any EA game...up until the last month or so. I have run defrag and several other "clean-up" programs on both my hard drives (I have a 15 gig drive and a 55 gig drive) several times and still nothing. I downloaded some software that allows me to go into the processes function...and I turn everything I don't need off...but it seems like the McAfee security stuff comes right back on. Could that be what's slowing my computer down?

Sorry...I'm not really much with technical stuff. My computer won't even come close to running the demo for FIFA '08...but I expected that when I read all the problems folks were having with it. It appears I have a couple of different issues going on here. Whatever you guys can do to help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
mutiger

Hi,

Have you updated any drivers lately? Your issue could be a heat issue as well. Try opening the side of your case and place a small room fan at the video card and cpu and see if this helps. If so, you may need to venilate your case better, you may want to remove your heatsink fan and see if it is clogged with dust (you may even want to remove the heatsink and apply some new thermal compound). What are your system specs? Video card and driver, OS, and what are the specs on your PSU - all info is on the side sticker, just list total watts, and the total amps on your +12v.

Best of luck,
