well, here we play 2 short tournaments w/play-offs, the playoffs are played by the top 8 teams, the winner of the playoffs (2 legs every round, even the final) final is the champion, we got a crappy version of the FA Cup called Copa Chile, well, it's played by first, second, third, fourth division, some non-affiliated teams and on a chance by a ethnical group (Rapa Nui people from Easter Island, loss 4-0 to Colo Colo on 2009), just some qualification rounds between lil' teams, then the 8 group stage, the rest is obvious, just with home and away matches (even the final), and well, Copa Libertadores (like the southamerican ucl) and Copa Sudamericana (like uel but without groups, just 2 legged qualifiers, also, the teams that qualify to this cup are like the 10th from a league, on bolivia qualifies the 6th, etc), and well, the tournaments are short, Copa Chile started on august, the final will be on december (maybe), the first tournament (Apertura or starting in english) is from january to june (counting the playoffs), the second tournament (Clausura or ending in english) takes from july to december, Copa Libertadores takes from february to july and Sudamericana takes from august to december.

btw, match between Easter Island and Colo Colo on 2009, it was historical for the chilean football

That pitch looks very long and heavy! I thought Easter Island were never going to start after the Haka dance. For the Copa Liberatores, I'm interested to know if they've done the same as the UCL. About 10 years ago the UCL started to brand everything the same, the television graphics, the advertising around the pitch, the television introductions before the match (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FrxTLgb7qDo) and it didn't matter which broadcaster you watched it on, its always the same. Do they do it there?

well, nope, the scoreboards are different for every channel, for example, the scoreboards of O Globo are very different than the ones of the original scoreboards by Fox Sports, but yeah, we have an intro
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YWDhHYWjYAs

the same runs for sudamericana
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=byCs5Ra3ZqI

this is how the original scoreboards are.
For libertadores:

For sudamericana:

http://i.ytimg.com/vi/1Q2Er5eyUh4/0.jpg

and oficial logos :D
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/3/34/Copa_Libertadores_logo.png
http://www.racingblog.com.ar/racing/wp-content/fotos/2012/06/sudamericana.jpg

and about the advertising on the pitch sides, well, are mixed between the oficial cup sponsors (Santander, Kaiser, CONMEBOL.com) 3 or 4 adboards with the country were the match is being played with the name of the city were the home team stadium is (ie: Colo Colo vs Boca will have the chilean flag with the name of the city: Santiago) and home team's National FA sponsors

btw, once you said that south american football is very passionate? well, yeah, it does

CONGRATULATIONS CELTIC! 2-1 Barcelona, what a performance! :)

Love that fight scene, some good kicks in there and thanks for the South American education, I'm always interested in football there.

no probs, btw, that situation it's tipical on uruguay, the only bad thing is the fan violence, it's like... mmmmmm... how to explain?... ah, yes, all the fans for like 6 or 7 teams (per country) are like the fans of... well... Millwall or West Ham.

BTW. nice triumph for Celtic, a good team with a glorious history deserved it.

PS: Copa Chile Round of 16: '75, Colo Colo 2-1 O'Higgins de Rancagua
('56 Jean Pineda, '62 Mauro Olivi; '69 Richard Blanco)

Are there very obvious differences between the leagues in South America? What I mean by that is when you watch a match in England, France, Germany, Spain or Italy, it is quite clearly leagues from different countries. For example the chanting is different, the pace of the football is different, the tactical aspect of the match is thought about is a different way. I've seen matches from Brazil and Argentina and there is clear differences between those leagues, but is that the same for matches in Peru, Chile and the other leagues in the CONMEBOL?
