FIFA World Player of The Year 2007

Tom

I mean i'm not having a go at the lad, but 2007 hasn't exactly been his best year. Sure, for 04/05 and maybe 06 he's a certainity, but this year?

How can Lampard be there and Totti and Ibrahimovic are left out?

Thuram, Cannavaro, etc. being nominated for this year is a complete joke.

Actually, all joking aside, how has Frank Lampard wangled himself onto this list? Unbelieveble.

Its an unwritten rule that Fat Frank must be considered for every award despite not doing anything. Its a bit like his place in the England squad :)

I think the coaches and captains of each international football association have something to do with it.

Tom, just grow up man... lol

Anyway, i have some doubt about Messi grabbing this year's award... but he certainly deserves it... and it won't take long before we see that happens frequently... the kid is pure genius! (H)

Do you really? Because the list of the 30 players is decided by FIFA. The coaches and captains can only vote (afterwards) on those players, meaning it's not up to them to decide who's part of that list or not.

The lists of 30 male and 26 female candidates for these prestigious awards have been drawn up by football experts from the Technical and Development Committee, the Football Committee, the Committee for Women's Football and the FIFA Women's World Cup as well as women's football specialists on other FIFA committees.

I would like to know who the hell are these "football experts" but that's another issue.

It should be Káká, Messi has just now come on at the end of the season while Kaka has had a great year from start to finish.

You could make a case for Riquelme as well who led Boca to the Libertadores win and Argentina to the final of the Copa America.

How come there are no Sevilla players on the list? Kanoute?? He had a hell of a year. I like the idea of the award but I hate the fact that they come up with a list and then decide out of that list.
