FIFA/FIFPro World XI: Iker Casillas (Real Madrid), John Terry (Chelsea), Nemanja Vidic (Man Utd), Patrice Evra (Man Utd), Daniel Alves (Barcelona), Xavi (Barcelona), Andres Iniesta (Barcelona), Steven Gerrard (Liverpool), Lionel Messi (Barcelona), Cristiano Ronaldo (Real Madrid), Fernando Torres (Liverpool).

I would swap Iniesta with Veron just cause veron is da best player in south america and they are a good continent and their team made it to the final and could be said is hte second best team in the world.

and iniesta didn't play that good in the world final so veron should be ther instead.

premier league is overated. I miss van der vaart's wife yesterday.

How do you draw to that conclusion. The premier league teams have dominated Europe for a number of seasons now. It was a bit shocking how few of them were in the Ballon d'Or. But then I guess this is less bias given its voted by the actual coaches and captains.

I think Drogba should be in that list too... but then he only has himself to blame.

Premier league is overated and its a fact, probably because its the most famous/televised league around the world and this award is voted in the uefa website. Until Torres didn't sign for "Atlético of England" A.K.A Liverpool wasn't recognized internationally, Terry, Vidic or Fernando (specially the last one) didn't made more than Eto'o or Ibrahimovic.

EPL have dominated europe? ok but in the last 5 years Barça have won the same number of CL than all british teams.

That's exactly what I first think when I see that line-up.

True but on the other hand England had 3 teams in 1/2 in 08/09 + Barça, three teams in 1/2 in 07/08 + Barça, three teams in 1/2 in 06/07 + Milan. I think this is what he is referring to.
Spain is a "Barça, Madrid and others" league, while in England beside the big 4 you have teams like Aston Villa, Tottenham, City etc, strong enough to take points from the Big 4. (e.g Utd. 0 - 1 Villa + West Ham 1 - 1 Chelsea in the last round)

yeah EPL is so close this year unlike la liga, Barca and Real are far ahead.

Same goes for Serie A as well.

if you say so. As for Fernando Torres and liverpool, he's got his names since he's scored goals in big competitions... not to mention the European cup.

No, the people in uefa website.

Huh?

I thought this was voted by the players?? The website seems to say so.

It is the prize most valued by the players - to be chosen as the best by your own colleagues! In the past months, thousands of players from around the world had been invited to vote for who they thought were the best players of 2009. The large number of votes, and the fact that the players themselves are doing the voting, have already made the FIFPro World XI Award one of the most highly-valued prizes in football.

And England is United or United, when United doesn't win the league is an accident.
3 teams in the past 3 semifinals of Champions League means this is the best league in the world, open your eyes.

Well that could be right after 1990s but since the England's top division established, United or liverpool isn't that dominant compared to serie or la liga. In spain, Madrid or Barcelona won the league more than 2/3 of whole league.

Yes, but actually premier league except so called 'big four' aren't that good in international competitions.

I would have to agree with you on this on the past three seasons, but i think you should realize things have changed this season teams like inter and madrid have stronger squads this year, I hope you use the same logic if its not 3 semi finalist this year for you again and admit you might have fallen off the top

That would depend, consistency is key. If 2 or 3 get through then next year 5 British teams qualify...

But its irrelevant it really doesn't matter who's best. The reason I brought up the premier league dominance in recent years was in reply to Arnau who felt having so many premier league players in the FIFPro World XI was based on the league being over rated.

Then people started talking about past history etc. What does that have to do with FIFPro World XI which picks the best players for that year.

Based on the fact Premier league teams have done well for the last 3-4 years it should be no surprise to see so many premier league players. Next year and the year after is another question.
