"So could this finally be the year that the tide turns? That it's no longer men against boys. That in a game of two halves, one side gives it 110%. And that the FIFAs the PESs and the Sensibles of the world put in a forward's tackle with their favourite left foot....."
After reading quite a few articles on the new fifa 08 , some of them quite promising. I thought hmmmm , it might be the year when we have two quality football titles to play. Fifa because i can play as leeds and try to top league 1.
Pes 08 to play online against my friends and to have a go with the master league. This year i bought fifa and it cost me £42 from woolies, believe me i much prefer pro evo, but fifa had got good reports this year.
It is a very hard game, what i mean is it is very hard to score a goal. This is not a bad thing as people do like a challenge. I have played many games on fifa 08 using different difficulty levels, when i have taken the lead in a couple of matches the computer ai just seems to walk through my players and score.
I'm sorry but when you do score a goal you feel you have achieved something great and to have a goal scored repeatedly by the AI in this way is a little soul destroying, after that i loaded up pro 6 and played a few matches with valencia. I am only sorry that i actually started to believe that fifa might be on par with pro 6, oh and i payed £42 for the privilege.
To be honest pro 6 does have it's faults, but even with them it is still far better gameplay wise than fifa 08.
From the latest build videos what i have seen of pes 2008, it looks brilliant now it's been slowed down a tad. The sad thing is i will be lucky to get half my money back.

after playing Fifa08 for a week i got bored and downloaded the pes 08 demo.
One hour later i have pre-ordered pes 2008!
have always been a fifa fan but this year i dont see anything in fifa08 that makes it worth the money,it's like a fifa 07 patch with a transfer update and a litle gameplay tweek!

PES2008 Review

I just noticed IGN UK posted their PES review. For comparison, both reviews are below.

PES2008 - 9.2

FIFA2008 - 7.7

We'll see what happens once more reviews come out, but I don't think any FIFA fans can honestly believe that this is the year FIFA has retaken its crown.

IGN got massive ads in pes2008, not just adboards but even match stats and score boards so if their reviews were not worthless to me before in this case they are nothing more but JOKE

fifa08 very solid, great gameplay and features vs poor features from pes2008 and very poor gameplay, arcadish turbo speed, basketball double digit scores and so on, anyone to score pes2008 this high is BIASED or BLIND

sooooooooooo............... masturbation = sex sim
real sex = arcade sex

therefore

fifa = masturbation
PES = real sex

well, if that doesn't settle it, what will.

FACT is, PES is now arcade and fifa is very sim. Get over it. Even hardcore PES sheep admit to this. Not only them but all the reviewers say the same thing. Don't be in denial. t's not like PES people care. They'll love PES regardless of anything. They can strip it down 50%, give it early PS1 graphics and give the football baloon physics, they'd still love it. It's an easy bunch to please and Mr. Seabass knows this. Enjoy.

Neither game is a sim.

The difference is. When you control players in PES, controls are responsive and you can actually play. When you play fifa, it's like running through mud. In this version you can't even decide how hard you want to hit the ball. Game decides for you how to shoot. That's just crap. And that's just one of the things.

PES is a better game, Fifa is neither a good game nor a sim. Maybe Cameroon's 3rd division sim, I don't know, but this doesn't feel anything like real football.

It seems like running through mud because you are used to super speed in PES which by the way is not realistic. If you played real football you'd know what is possible. For example, PES ignores real physics, how physical momentum affests players, how players lose balance on turns, etc. In PES you can do anything. It's fun but arcasy and that's fact. Ask around and people will tell you its arcady. Fifa plays more realistic, way more. If you'd give it achance and not think and act like a fanboy, you'd see. But anyway, enjoy what you like. Mr. Seabass and co. at Konami have many followers like you and they love it since it saves them money on development and they don't have to work hard on making it a next gen game.

I never said PES was a sim and realistic, but neither is fifa.

So, given a choice between a playable game with responsive control, or a slow, sluggish, unresponsive gameplay in fifa, it's an obvious choice.
That is the only real difference between these two games. Slow and unresponsive != more realistic. Only to fat and slow people perhaps.

In PES players can do things real players could never pull off in real life, in Fifa players can't do half the things real players can do in real life.

If that's your definition of what a sim is or isn't tells me you have no clue what a sim is.

Im sorry to say BUT PES has gone the ARCADE way this year while FIFA is a lot more of sim than PES is. AND this coming from some1 who has played PES and ignored EVERY fifa since 98 and played PES hardcore since WE6

TO START in fifa you can do manual through ball, crosses, and LOB PASSES. PES only ever had manual through ball which was hard as ish to do with the right analog.

Second, PES is ALL about dribbling NOW!!!! that sux monkey nuts. all u need is ronaldhino or Ibrahimovic to beat an entire freakin team. Thats just gay. Its not like Winning eleven 8 where the game was based on team play and getting through on goal was a lot tougher. Even in PES 2007 this is obvious that defending became a lot harder. In Fifa08 getting through is really really hard and team build up is a must for 90 min. Its not just give the ball to ronaldhino and have him own type of game.

I do play both games and I have to say that Fifa is more complete this year. Even in gameplay it has some aspects that PES has lost through out the year. Seabass better WAKE THE F UP and stop overrating INTER because thats all he does all freakin day.

I play on PC ...Until now, I have always preferred Fifa because I found PES hard to master. ( I'm more the editing guy than the gamer I must say, that's why I picked fifa ...was easier)
But since a week I have given a true chance to PES and I found it more realistic than Fifa...No comparison
I have reinstalled all my PES (5, 6 and of course 08 ) and de-installed all my fifas :amika:
The boring thing about fifa is that all the goals scored by the CPU feel the same and there are always major flaws ( in fifa 03 it was almost impossible to make a header, in fifa 04 I think it was the " off the ball control " who was ridiculous, in fifa 05 there was a huge gap between attackers and mildfielders while the defenders weree staying in ...defence all the time, in fifa 06 allmost all the goals of the cpu were headers after a crossing from the wings...Fifa 07 was the best in my opinion...)
And in Fifa 08 fast all the goals are scored in the middle by an attacker who suddenly become Ronaldinho no matter what his real level is...
Once again it's my opinion for PC versions as I won't buy any console...So I cannot judge the 2 games on those platforms.

Konami need to step it up. Once they put out a next gen PES, I'm there. As for now, nope! I still have my WE9 for the PS2 which is a million times better than PES 2008. No need to play last gen on current gen. Sorry Seabass, maybe next time. And please give us proper audio, graphics and a menu system and presentation that doesn't look like an 8th grade arts and crafts project. And, a good online service, with next gen game modes and ideas. Thanks!

I already posted my opinion on a different thread, but basically as a long time PES player and someone who playes in real life in an outdoor league and indoor league, I must say that Fifa 08 simulates football really nicelly. PES is fast and fun and more free flowing but it resembles more my indoor 6 vs 6 league.

I tried fifa for the first time in a long time and was really impressed. It might not be as fun as PES , but it's a more realistic game. At least acording to my real life experiences.

And to be honest, fun is not always bad. I actually enjoy playing indoors more. It's faster and more exciting. And PES is a great game. But when it come to full 11 vs 11 football, Fifa really took a huge step forward this year and it will be my game of choice.

Pes is blatantly better. I've said it a billion times before why Pes is better, so I'm just gonna say that: we have an edit mode! Does Fifa? Anything is possible with an edit mode!
- A player's cut their hair? No problem, just pop on to edit mode.
- Some kits need changing? No problem, edit mode.
- Need to make quick and easy transfers? Easy. Edit mode.

Does Fifa have one? No? Pes has had one since number 1.

And one more thing, something as simple as: people say Pes' menu is not as good as Fifa's - well we can hold down directional buttons on menus to go faster! Ha! On Fifa you have to tap repeatedly! (That's what is was like on Fifa 04 anyway, surely it's been changed by now!)
