FIFA 06 XBOX360 first impressions!

Attending the X05 event in Netherlands gave me a chance to chat to Danny Issac and see FIFA 06 RTWC in action.
The menu system is completely new and has no relevance to this year's FIFA at all. Background is full of animations which is incredibly lifelike. After picking up the teams, Danny showed off new feature in FIFA 06 RTWC which allows you to train while the game loads. So you can give few shots at goal and play around while the game is loading up. After loading up the graphics took my breath away, and I'm being modest by saying that. The stadium, the athmosphere, it's absolutely amazing. It is SOOOOOO crisp and clear, it's simply fantastic. However, the player models while BEST in any soccer game, are not on par with everything else, especially grass. MY GOD, that grass is almost touchable. It is unreal how good it looks like. Player faces are incredible and every player looks identical to his reallife counterpart. Emotions are spot on, and overall, from entrance scene, you'll actually forget for the moment that it is a computer game that we are talking about here. The kits are spot on too, they move and become wet and it looks absolutely great. There's also, of course, manager animations and reactions throughout the game which looks incredible.

There's also very cool feature in FIFA XBOX360, now every time there is a foul, corner or any out of the field ball, you can substitute player while cut scenes are on. Cut scenes are really unbeleivable too. I can't express how wonderfull the game looks (even though I was FAR more impressed with NBA 2k6 and other XBOX360 games) but this is the best soccer game I have seen in my life. PC version is nowhere near XBOX360 verison and it's simply uncomparable.

Although, I have to admit that I felt little dissapoined after I have seeing the players in action. The animation is great but somehow TOO similar to this generation console version. It alsmost feels the same. Players run similarly. Same "annoyances" are there too, like keepers can't kick the ball over the halfway line after a save etc... It just isn't believeble enough like the entrance scene, stadium, fans, grass and everything else. The control system is almost identical, I've seen pace control and very similar feints like in FIFA 06. The ball also didn't seem like different entity at all, which is disappointment. In fact I don't think is much different from this generation at all. It slides over the pitch, etc... I can tell you that PES5 ball physics are better than those in XBOX360 FIFA RTWC unfortunately. Whilst FIFA 06 is acceptable and enjoyable on this generation systems I feel that many will be slightly disappointed after realising that not much (except incredible graphics) changed.

Overall, it will be definitely best looking soccer game but I doubt that it will kill PES5 gameplay.

Cheers!!!

P.S. You guys need to see NBA2K6, the sweat and cloth movement and everything is absolutely out of this world.

Looks like EA is going the Konami marketing way, I got this from www.1up.com

"Reid was also keen to point out additional third-party support from EA in the form of FIFA '06 Road to the World Cup, which will hit the 360 in 2005, as well as an updated FIFA '06 coming in the Spring of 2006 for both the original Xbox and 360 (yes, another FIFA title for 360). "

my first impressions:

after first ss
wow it looks very good, the kits and player models are looking very nice and it will only get better.

after watching videos
wow, some very nice moves and tricks, i like the facial expressions of the players and it is looking like a very promising game

after more ss
in-game scoreboard looks the best ive ever seen in a soccer game. the ECU on the holland nike socks is great and the grass looks super realistic.

also, in this shot http://www.ownage.nl/images/content/25171.JPG at the bottom there are the player who is being controlled' names, and an EA Sports logo. im guessing that the country logo will replace the EA logo in the real game :sun:

With regards to the gameplay engine - remember the game isn't finished yet!

That's true, but Danny Issac (Producer) told us that game should be complete by end of october and ready for the launch of XBOX360, so it can't be far from finished. It looks pretty polished to me at the moment.

The shooting looks better as well as first touch kicks, and control. The ball does not stick to the feet like in FIFA 06, it's very free and reminds on PES. But again, on the other hand it somehow reminds me on this generation FIFA 06.

The Greek teams are not there, only national teams are in the game in total of 72. And yes Greek national team is there.
There will be kick-off feature to play friendlies, something similar to FIFA Lounge to play offline tournaments, road to FIFA WORLD CUP 2006, online play, challenges, unlockables and I think that's about it in terms of game play options.

I guess this first generation of games on XBOX360 won't be as good as some later ones, but there are some that look VERY promising. Also, as far as things stand for PS3, it won't come out in US before end of 2006 and in europe before 2007, so PES6 should be ready for Xbox 360 this time around next year as announced. On PS3, who knows when. At the moment PS3 is expected to hit Japan in March/April 2006, so MAYBE WE10 comes out for it. (similar as when PS2 came out)
