A player whose contract is expired has the right to sign with any team, so my story goes like this:

managing a lower profile team whose management has otherwordly aspirations is annoying enough, but now this... I've been chasing a player for about a year, and noticed his contract will expire for a year. His team wanted a ridiculously high transfer amount, so i told them to **** themselves, while secretly plotting to "steal" the player while hoping i can sign him as a FA. To further help my agenda, i praised the player two or three times, you know to butter him up. He made me happy by constantly rejecting his club's offer of a new contract. He is by no means a world class player, but definitely a better defender then any of my guys, so I really need him. Now, it's 3 months left until the end of his contract, and I still can't approach to sign him... weird. I wait until contract expires, and I still can't sign him.. There is no option. I can only buy him. What the shiznit man? I never encountered this before. No other team is offering him a contract... he keeps rejecting his team's offer, but yet his contract says "N/A"... any ideas?

just kind of btw, i'm not new at the game, but have not played recent versions as much as my first love, "01/02" so maybe i missed a rule i dont know about...? :bob:

What league do you play in? Different leagues have different rules on how you can go about signing free agents. The game reflects the updated Bosman ruling.

well my team is in the serbian leauge. i got la liga, premiership and the hitler leauge open, but the player in question is from dinamo kiev. the thing that pisses me off is that of course, realism does not play a factor in transfers, and even though the player is only worth about 4 million, dinamo want 16 mil for him. glad to see the realism was resolved in the 3 years i've been away from the game. maybe in another 3 years my striker will actually finish a one on one vs the goalkeeper... i know a lot of these bugs are around. i also got the .1 patch running if it makes any difference.

That's it. You can't sign a player from the Ukrainian league six months before his contract is up, I think it's a few weeks before the end of the season to be able to sign a player on a pre-contract who is based in Ukraine.

forgive me, just came back from work so maybe i have to re-read your response - a little tired. i have to wait a few weeks before kiev's season ends to be able to offer him a contract?

i know for a fact that a premier league can't approach another premiership player until his contract has actually expired (or within the last couple of weeks or so) but clubs from countries can offer him a contract. Not sure how that applies to other leagues though...

It's something to do with the Ukrainian league. I remember I was in a similar situation as you, the player was at Kiev as well and I couldn't sign him...he was just rotting away there under no contract :S
