I read ages ago that a U.S. broadcaster had bought the rights from the EBU for a Eurovision-format contest with artists from each of the 50 U.S. states. Did anything come of it?

It was NBC and I don't think anything came of it. It would've been pretty successful in 2006 too.

UK won't win. The currrent voting system makes it very difficult for a country to win based solely on talent, and UK has few allys in this competition. Their neighbours hate them and everyone else hates them too.
