Jon Watson: all of we are very happy for having you here... Much better that the Bubball bastards... I posted a whole wishlist on infogrames forum, to later know they dumped it.

I wasn't still able to buy the game, but I'm hoping to do it still this month. However, I have some questions. As it was said here, the graphic files are on the RAW format... as far as I know, the RAW format is either text data, audio, video, sound, image... Is it possible to edit the files, and make patches?

Hi again guys,

We're looking into changing some things for a possible patch which will address things like ball trajectory on high balls etc. I'll keep you posted on its progress.

More cheats:
'flares'
'spit'
'allyourbasearebelongtous'
'iamamess'
'circusdecloons'

The last three deal with unlocking stuff...experiment!!

Player names can be changed (if you don't fancy using the editor) be changing the frontend pak file with a hex editor (remember there are six languages, so there are six copies of the player database in there). I'll send out details of the contents of this pak file shortly (it also contains the kit graphics....)

Enjoy.

A patch? Yeehaa!
I don't know how far a patch can change the game, but here's what I suggest:
1. The AI, sometimes the player just stood still when the ball near him. Uncontrolled players when defending should have their own defend intellegence. Same goes for the opponent, I can run to the goals without anyone trying to tackle me.
2. dunno if it's just my PC or not, but sometimes the ball movement when going to the net is really weird.
3. Make the game more harder, I still get like 9-4 score in almost every game, too high for a football match. Slow the game a little bit? Give more weight to the players?
4. I still think that the passing should be harder to do so I can't just press pass three times and with the ball still in my posession and get away with it. probably add a power bar for the pass?
5. Have a medium lob shot (is this trajectory lob pass you mention? ) that has more power to it.
Hmm... That's all (for now) :) I enjoyed your game very much. I threw FIFA 2001 out of the window after playing it for 4 hours. But with people who actually listen to us like you do, there's a big hope for a decent football game on PC at last.
I probably would post on the UEFA challange wishlist if I have time so I can list ALL of my ideas. Thanks dude!
BTW, I just love that TV screen on the stadium :)

I'll pass these onto the AI guys and see what they come back with.

If you want a really hard challenge play in hard mode as Dundee Utd against Real Madrid.

I'm not sure the power bar for passing would be a good idea. If you have to judge ever pass it may become too difficult. We tried to make the passing as quick and easy as possible as this is what you spend most of your time doing. We'll look into a few options though. All the AI is tweakable through a patch.

Thanks for your positive comments about the game, much appreciated.

Wow! A quick reply! Thanks..
About the AI, thanks for taking this into consideration. Hopefully the AI would be better with the patch.
When I talk about the game being too easy, I'm not talking about the difficulty or the opponents abbility, but more of the flow of the game. Surely ppl can't get the defender so easily because it's hard to dribble the ball in the first place, needs special skill to develop. Or the other way around, it's not that easy to steal the ball from someone else.
The power bar for passing would make the game harder, which is my whole point. It would feel much better to accomplish a perfect pass and we need time to be able to do it the right way.
I know I can't speak for everybody, and I know the fact that people who likes more 'arcade' feel for their football game, who prefer to sit the game for an hour and already manage to find out everything about the gameplay. But I thought this kind of people would buy FIFA 2001 :)
Just look at ISS (sigh, again and again), first timer would find the game difficult, but when I manage to do it right after some amount of practice, I started to find new things, and it lets my creativity flow.
Maybe it's because I play football in real life (though not good at it) so I want a game that captured that feeling of the game, how hard it is to score a goal, or to pass a defender. I'm not talking about the game which would take forever to master, rather a game I would spend my time to play the game.

Uh oh, I'm babbling  Sorry, but having a developer right here is a chance of a life time :D

Thanks !

Thanks for the points on difficulty level and I agree that in order to give the player any longevity in gameplay some features must remain 'hidden' until the player is more accomplished. There are a number of ways we could go with this and the 'weighted' pass is one of these. It would be quite hard to please everyone with this type of feature but I see know problem in allowing this to be a frontend option if the user would like this. In fact, a nice idea for the more advanced users would be a completely open ended physics system which allows the user to change every possible parameter.

Things like weight of ball, spin, powered kicks (passes, shots, chips), ball bounce, ball material etc. could all be changed from an options screen.

Aha! The options to turn difficulty level on and off is even better I think. Lets ppl who likes arcade soccer game to buy the game yet there are options for ppl like me.
Can this be applied on the patch or do we have to wait for UEFA challange 2 ?
Again, Kudos to Mr. Jon Watson who has time to read my post in the first place :) Not many developers do that I tell ya.

Thanks

I would like to add an integral 'difficulty' options screen so the users can tweak to their hearts content. I'll be looking at the suggestions in the UEFA wish list and preparing a document which I'll let you all see before any more work is done on a possible patch.

Great news guys... due to the popularity of Uefa Challenge and the great response from Jon, we'll be opening a Uefa Challenge forum first thing tomorrow.

Jon... what would you like the game to be classed as? Should we put it in the Console category or the same category as the FIFA games?

Cheers,
Matt

That internal difficulty setting sounds great! I'll post some more thorough suggestion on UEFA challange more on the wishlist when I have the time to actually make one.
In the mean time I'm playing Dundee against Real Madrid on hard level. Finally I got a respectable 3-0 win :) Oh yeah, how about that lob through pass you talked about? Is there some keys combination I don't know?

Thanks again,
You da man!

hmmm..... I don't know guys, I got the game today and well, I don't think it's that good. I could make a whole list of things I don't like, but the main thing is the way players move. It seems like they're floating or something.

I guess I'll go back to ISSpe2 then...

Jon, it's great to see a developer here, I hope that you'll listen to the comments people make here.

You're right about the players movement. The players should have movement like if they're actually controlling the ball not just run with the ball. Though I understand why you're dissapointed with UEFA Challange, you got ISS on PS2!! We just can't have that game on PC
Anyways, UEFA still is better than FIFA 2001 IMO, besides its own weakness.

What the hell...

I've went yesterday to buy the game, and found that all stores were selling the game the same price as a PS2 game! How is this? Is Infogrames fault, or are the stores taing advantage of the boxes being the same?
