Most contract negotiations go on for roughly a year (maybe a bit less)...his have not even been going on for 6 months.

Why are Man Utd fans still defending Rio?

He's been an c*nt all season with the refusal to sign the new deal and he's been erratic to say the least.

I've seen more mistakes from him than from any of the other CB from the list. Yes he's a good player, better with his feet than most CBs but he's been slacking A LOT
He's been a bit of a pain in the arse recently but up until the contract negotiations his form was very good as was his rapport with the fans. I think most fans, myself included, are very annoyed with him for his contract demands in light of the way we and the club stood by him during his turbulent times. Recently he's also gotten into trouble for stupid things and the patience of us fans is quickly wearing out. I feel that if we could get a good price (more than what we paid for him), and his contract isn't signed within a couple of months then I'd gladly see the back of him and get another good central defender.

However, I'd prefer him to sort it out and stay with us. He is one of the best in the World, not to mention United's vice-captain, and you want to keep the best players.

I think you're over exaggerating to say that he's made more mistakes then the others on that list. I feel with the exception of Terry, who was practically flawless in protecting the Chelsea goal, he made the fewest, and it's easier to concentrate on your task when you have confidence in those around you, particularly in the goalie. But then Terry hasn't look particularly good when he's played for England. I'd go so far as to say Terry's looked a bit shakey at times when playing for them, unlike Rio.

meanwhile scotland are just delighted to have david weir back. cant believe how many quality centre halfs u have :( even alan stubbs would walk into our central defense!!

I'd say Rio mainly because of his ability with the ball, he is far more confident with the ball at his feet. Terry (from what i've seen) can tend to give the ball away with his passing ans his "attempts" at long balls - but this is purely from what i've seen as i don't tend to watch Chelsea.

Rio is also the most talented player and is generally extremely consistent and reliable.

To be honest, in my view, Rio will easily become the best Central Defender in the world, IF he stays at United.

So much quality top choose from, in the England's Central Defense spot... :)

You forgot Ledley King, he's a good defender also....

Terry gets my vote, but... Rio is at the same level! :rockman:

John Terry.

I for one will be delighted to see the back of Ferdinand and have him replaced (Milito anyone?) as soon as possible.

Rio Ferdinand, future captain? bollocks. Anyone who hangs around with idiots like Jody Morris deserve to be beaten up. Its an absolute travesty that Ferguson was stupid enough to ditch a true Red in Jaap Stam and replace him with an overrated greedy cockney gangsta wannabe twat who couldn't give a toss about the club.

Quality :funny:

whoever voted carragher..... :lui: you are looney
Threads like these demonstrate the nature of most "neutral" forums: people inevitably vote for "their man" or team or whatever. Nothing wrong with it, but going against the grain is a bit few and far between.

Naturally, I voted for JT (H)

A similar poll on Big Soccer from 2002 yielded Sami Hyypia as the winner. Hensinki-sieede

Oh, and I think when/if Woodgate ever gets on the field for Madrid, he is going to at least begin to justify his investment, despite the (justifiable) cynicism of many. I also cannot believe the way Rio has taken a dive in recent weeks in the eyes of mancs :|

Terry - He is the best CB in the world at the moment, is a club man, is a true captain, is blue, through and through.

Think harder.

That's my opinion on Carragher, you can accept it or ignore it, but you should at least respect it ;)
