Electric Guitar: Epiphone Les Paul

Ok, I'm in the process of getting myself an Epiphone Les Paul, because I've completley had it with my Squier Fat Start. I've played several LP's at my local "overprized" shop and they play totally awesome, but I was wondering if anyone out here owns and plays one, and if so, could tell me about their own experience with the guitar.
Since my local shop overprizes everything, I'll probably buy it via the internet so I'm trying to get hold of as much as info as possible. I'm interested in a Les Paul standard and maybe, if I can fork out the extra 100€, a Les Paul Custom. Please tell me about the stock pickups, any good or should they be replaced?

I got a Gibson LesPaul straight outta the factory in Memphis (H) I got it for a great price too! I must admit that its more of a prized posession than something I'd play day to day, in fact its on my wall and I'm scared to touch it. :$

Although the guitar is easily the best I've had my grubby little hands on, I think the sound and feel of it is a little too 'mature' for me. Having said that, it is an incredible guitar. If you have the chance to get a LesPaul get it, I swear you'll think its value for money in terms of quality (Y)

Dude that's totally awesome! A real Gibson LP, they don't sell those babies for under 2000€ here. Obviously I woould like to have one someday, but that'll probably happen after I've won the lottery (which I'm sure of I will). For now I'll settle for an Epiphone Les Paul, I'm really tempted to buy it via the internet because of the price, but buying it in a shop also has it's advantages. Samash.com and musiciansfriend.com unfortunately don't ship to Europe, but I've seen a company selling them on the german Ebay site, completely new guitars, approved Ebay seller, so i'll probably go for one of those... But I can't understand that you don't play that Gibson, I understand if you don't take it to gigs or so, but just jamming on it in your room I definately would...
Weren't you also in a band? I remember Hugo passing me an MP3 a while ago, it was sort of punkish, I quite liked it. If I remember correctly it was called "something for Katie".

I, for one, wouldn't buy that guitar (although I admit it has a good sound). Why? Bcs it's overrated; definitely not even the best Gibson out there. The fact that people like Slash (former Guns'n Roses) and Jimmy Page (of LedZ) overpriced this guitar, making it somewhat mythical. I bet it is sold with a 200% margin, at least.
However, the real reason why I wouldn't buy it is bcs I think it's too heavy. Literally. I can't imagine myself singing and playing guitar wth that thing hanging from my neck for 40 minutes straight. :|
Yeah, I bet that isn't a problem for most of you, but I try focusing on some sort of a comfort/price compromise (and not only for guitars).

Anyway, if you can deal with it, that's a great buy, Maarten. ;)
Oh, and the band is the ------, but don't mention t to Denis.:p

Denis note:

Oh Hugo, it ain't getting out man ;)

The said mp3 I played on was a crappy old Yamaha which has now been broken (H) I now do all my playing on a handy little Ibanez, although I'm thinking of adding an Epiphone Gig Rig to my 'collection' ;)
All of my guitars are custom, me being a mutant lefty and all :mrpimp:

Hugo is dead right about the weight of it, you simply can't rock with them things weighing you down! I remember playing a couple of old tunes on it for around 15 minutes and my shoulder was fecked all night :|

That 'band' have sucked the corporate dick big time lately, and have a polished version of the song - complete with cheesy new vocalist - on their vid, which has been doing the rounds on a couple of music channels here. It would have been good to have been moderately famous and all, but the band just weren't my thing. The lyrics were crap for starters, and I'm a big lyrics person! (H)

I know the guitars are heavy but I really like the sound, and how it plays. It plays so extremely smooth and fast. Now I only just have to get the cash together and try to sell my own Squier Fat Strat... (fat meaning humbucker in bridge pos.) anyone interested? :p

It is a little heavier than most but I can barely notice it. I've tried different guitars from Ibanez to a Fender Mustang, Washburns, ESP's and so on.

The Epiphone Les Paul ranks very high for me, it's definately worth the price. There is no other guitar I have tried that plays that well in that price range.
