... by releasing PES3 for PC on the same day as the best selling computer game ever - namely CM03/04?
I'm a computing science student so I know nothing about marketing or business but isn't it obvious that PES3 sales will suffer because CM will definitely outsell it...
A lot of people won't have the time/budget to buy both games and might just go for CM, especially the ones having already bought FIFA 2004 and a new gamepad to go with it (like me :o )
I'll probably buy both games anyway.. my courseworks can wait :)

WHY????

CM and PES are in completely different gaming genres....

And if you spent your hard earned cash on Fifa and can't afford PES next week then you deserve what you get.

Some things in life are worth waiting for.

but they're directed to the same type of gamers - football fans... most people who play PES/fifa also play CM and vice versa

i am a football fan but not a football management - lover !! i think everybody knows that PES is playing football and CM is managing football... i dont see one reason why CM will be a concurrent for PES!!! they are completely different games, also when they are directed to football fans!!

Well if your mum told you to go to the market to buy apples and pears...and when you get there you find they sell 5 different types of apples and 5 different types of pear....what do you do????

You buy one type of apple and one type of pear...

If you go to the shop next week and you want the best football simulation game on PC then you buy PES3, if you want the best football management game then you buy CM03/04... although both these game may appeal to the same people the fact that they are completely different product types will mean the consumer will have to decide what type he/she wants...if they want both then they buy both.

I can't see any difference in the long term that PES sales be affected due to CM being released on the same day.

Now Fifa and PES being released on the same day is a different matter as these two can be directly compared...and there is no way Konami can ever compete with the marketing machine of EA...

I have to agree with NerazZurRo.

I think there are many people that consider buying both PES and CM, but can only afford one, they might buy CM instead of PES.

Well if they chose CM ahead of PES that simply mean they prefer a management game to a simulation. I have played CM since version 1 and it can be addictive... but I no longer have the time to spend on a management sim...therefore next week I will be buying PES3 instead of CM not because its a better game but because I don't want a management game.

Its like releasing Battlefield 1942 and Sudden Strike on the same day...both are WW2 themed games but serve different genres... why should these two affect each other's sales???

It could in a weird way help PES3's sales.

Undoubtedly thousands of people are going to go out and grab CM on release day, while in the store they will (hoping Konami's PR aren't completely stupid) also see signs announcing that PES3 has just been released on PC, a game they previous thought was console only.

You're all right though. Some people couldn't care less about management games, some hate the "action" games.

Another thing, I think there are plenty of people playing CM that are not in the mainstream "FIFA is teh r0x0r!" crowd and have found out one way or another about PES/WE. Also judging by the 3000 replies and 40,000 hits the PES 3 discussion has raised in the CM off topic forum there will be a few people grabbing both on release day :)

I'm sure if they don't buy both they'll stick the other one on the top of their list to Santa :)

I think he has a point, not a lot of people will buy 2 games of the same genre. Even though CM is a sim I think they do cater to the same audience, plus I really fell PES3 would have better sells if it came out before FIFA04, with good reviews it would probably steal some loyal fans of the FIFA series.

But even so I think they will sell well in UK and Europe in general, in SA is another story if it takes to long to be released here a lot of people will just buy the pirated copy. I hope that in the next version with multiplayer they use some sort of cdkey system like HL does.

they wont sell well with this kind of advertising and timing of the release. whats more its only dvd omg, the consumer base is really limited

They should have done what fifa does, release localized versions. So they would not have to fit all the languages in one midia and it would fit in one CD

I don't think anyone will suffer from these games being released on the same day, afterall they are both available from £18 at play.com, that put together is less than a playstation 2 game at your local highstreet game shop.

here in Germany we don't have this problem...we must wait one more week for the "Fußball Manager 04", the German version of the TCM *grr*

Ya! You can't forget Fifa's football fusion. It must be fun to do a good job as manager ( Totally Club Manager ), and be able to play with our team, (the one we created at TCM), as a football player.
I agree CM and PES3 are totally diferent games. I think the EA kingdom, in football sims, is going to fall down if they don't aply some great gameplay in the next games. I hope they will.
Until this year EA has the exclusive market of football sims in PC's. But this year Konami is in the race. I think it's soon to compares market sales for Fifa and Pes, maybe next year.:jap:

I doubt PES3 will beat Fifa in sales this year on the PC...EA are splatting the Fifa2004 brand everywhere...on TV, at club grounds, magazines, in shops etc. even at the top of this foruM!!!

When you are that heavliy marketed you really have to be selling a great big piece of smelly turd not for it to make money.

But for definitate Konami will be taking a piece of the pie whether that is large enough to worry EA only time will tell.

what's it with PES fans always complaining about EA (or Codemasters) marketing their games? god... it's not evil to market a product, or is it? it's the fvcking fundament of our society and if there is a company who doesn't know how to do it appropriately (Konami) it's their fault, not the fault of the company who knows how to do it. people here always whine like "mama, damn EA has such an unfair advantage, no wonder our beloved little PES has no chance.. poor PES.. wuahhaahaaaaaaa"

besides, what have you won should millions and millions of people buy PES instead of FIFA? more cash? a moral victory? would feel like a better person in life? come on...

and how do you know FIFA is a "piece of turd"? have you played it, or are you just recycling lame old stereotypes?

i have bought both (yes, me, the evil traitor) and i think FIFA is quite good. in a different way than PES3. i wouldn't say it is better, but it's definitely not a piece of turd.
