Does anyone actually CARE about this game?

No, no. Not condemned to be shit.

I really want it to be good, and I think everyone does/should. It just seems more and more unlikely it will be any good. :(

The forum at www.championshipmanager.co.uk has seen a closing spree the last week, after rumours (read that well, RUMOURS) aroused of a delay in the release of CM5. Some release dates now given by retailers set the release in November, while others keep it in October still:

www.play.com: 5/11/2004
www.game.net: Nov 2004
www.hmv.co.uk: 19/11/2004

www.gamestation.co.uk: 22/10/2004
www.amazon.co.uk: 29/10/2004
www.gameplay.co.uk: 22/10/2004
www.gamesindustry.biz: 22/10/2004

Make of it what you want. I think Eidos don't bother making sure the game is any good, they're only in it for the money, so they will press for the October release. If the release IS set back to November, or worse...

I will be surprised if the game turns out to be good. Very very surprised. I'm afraid FM2005 will own CM5 in pretty much everything.

Wednesday an article was posted on Gamesindustry.biz, about Eidos shares hitting a 52-week low of 89 pence. The reason they give are rumours about the release date slipping past Christmas, and into 2005. I quote:
The game, which is the first in the series to be created by new developer Beautiful Game Studios after Eidos split from franchise creators Sports Interactive, is still officially on track for an October launch.

However, several UK retailers GamesIndustry.biz spoke to this week are advising consumers that a November launch for the title is expected - while rumours flew in the City of London yesterday that it could be pushed back to March 2005.

At the same time as the release of the FM 2005 gold demo, rumours have arisen about CM5 hitting gold next friday, 22nd of October. It would be accompanied by the release of the CM5 gold demo.

To be honest, gamesindusty.biz don't try to make a decent case to back the rumours they report about. They don't have to try, as the article is about the low point of the share-price, and not about the validation of the reason for that low point. The stockholders should know more about this than some dudes on an internet forum, though, even if it is www.championshipmanager.co.uk. A slip in release of CM5 should by now be expected, at least, but a slip beyond november is not at all in the picture. Yet. Is it?

As it stands, they're not going to release before they have a decent and stable product. At least that's something good, it gives hope for CM7/8.
