You'd think you'd walk on eggshells when it comes to Vista given all the bad press it's received, but now it seems that you're determined to use Vista to screw up people who don't even use Vista.

I just bought a new computer which has vista. These have been the worst two computer days of my life. Why did they mess with XP, it was great. Vista (said XP initially, it was a typo) looks like it was made for a kindergartner, except it's also complicated as hell to find out how to do simple tasks.

Windows 7 will be released in the second half of 2009. Apparently it's an improvement on Windows Vista.

Jesus Christ, no kidding. It's my personal laptop, therefore I'm the only person using it, and Shifty is the only profile. YES I WANT TO DO WHAT I'M TELLING YOU TO DO!!! What good is asking permission when it only takes whoever is doing the edit one extra click? It's just a major ******* hassle.

Oh, and newbie, Windows 7 still looks exactly like ******* Vista. It has huge icons that just take up a bunch of space, but it's impossible to find something as common and frequently used as the properties tab on the desktop.

If you want to disable it, just go into Control Panel -> User Accounts -> Turn User Account Control On/Off

And turn it off, no more Windows asking you if you really want to do anything anymore

Very cool, thank man. Control Panel is actually one of the things that's more handy in Vista. I can't find the "Run" button, but it's not like I use it often. Now if only I could figure out how to not have my desktop icons bigger than Lex Steele.

As for UAC, it's there only as a way to prevent "bad" software from running without your knowledge.

Anyway, most of the things you guys here mention as Vista problems arent even close to being the reason why vista has gotten such a bad name. Incompatibility with well known professional software packages and lack of drivers/unstable drivers are the real reasons. And now, 2 years later most of these problems are gone. (still some minor software issues, but..)

Yeah, actually, the first year something like 50% of the crashes/problems were nvidia drivers related.

7, according to MS will be just an improvement of vista, more like a tweak tbh and slightly lighter. The new WDM approach for drivers ensures in a way that there won't be driver problems like the ones Vista had at launch.

Compatibility and drivers were always going to be temporary.

The bigger issue is that Vista is not actually a significant improvement over XP in nearly every measure and requires about ten times the specs.

It's bloatware of the worst kind. For documents, emails, browsing and IM (99% of 99% of people's PC use) my year-old E6550 2GB Vista PC is, if anything, slower on startup and less responsive than my six-year-old A64+ single-core 256MB Ubuntu old PC.

It's just not good enough.

Yeh, tho part of this might be due to system responsiveness. Amd Vs Intel. Intel (tho you wont read about this on any tomshardware like website) had a major disadvantage over amd because the memory controller was on the the mainboard instead of having one integrated, like AMD, on the CPU which greatly improves responsiveness. CoreI7 is the first intel CPU to actually have that (basicaly what they've done is copy AMDs logic in CPU architecture with IMC and QuickPath (aka Hypertransfer)). You are right tho about it being heavier than it should, thats why 7 is supposed to be lighter (like i mentioned before)
