Oh and I recommend going to The Black Keys if you can. Really enjoyed the show they played a few months back here in Amsterdam. Shifty Auerbach is one hell of a guitarist (and singer) to see live.

I did! Yesterday. (H) It was awesome. First concert I've been to live (that I paid for). It really amazed me to see just these 2 guys play such great music (they played some songs with backup, and some without). Feel bad for Shifty though, for Nova Baby he tried so hard to get the crowd to sing along but too few people knew the song (or knew how how to sing in English). Great performers, and it really was fantastic. I'd go again in a heartbeat.

Did you remember this post about Black Keys and go looking for it? That's terribly sad

No, I searched for the thread to post and when scrolling down I saw it and thought it was a nice coincidence.

Black Keys are awesome. Definitely want to see them live at some point. Also, I recently found out of their project from couple years ago - Blakroc. They made an album featuring a bunch of rappers. Songs are basically the blues-rock background of the Black Keys, with rapping from the likes of RZA, Mos Def and Raekwon. Great stuff.

You're 13, that's fine.

Really? You didn't? Is it not your style of music? I've only listened to one song off Blakroc, but I'll listen to the whole thing at some point. Auerbach's solo record is pretty good, too. I HIGHLY recommend going to see them live, if you can. I really liked them, but honestly, I decided to go to the concert mostly because they were the only band that I like right now that have come to Spain promoting a good album. Few good bands come to Spain, and those that do are huge, expensive, and generally past-it. Muse, for example, have come several times, but they only started coming after The Resistance and I've really grown off them since that one. Haven't even listened to their new one, likewise for The Killers.

What I'm saying is, I didn't go because I liked them THAT much, they were a good band and I wanted to go to a concert I'd enjoy. Didn't even have all of the songs they wound up playing when I bought the ticket. But, after the concert, they've exploded into challenging QotSA as my favorite band. Really awesome, very enjoyable, the tracklist is very well-chosen and structured beautifully. It was a fantastic concert. I'll say it again, it's amazing to me that they rocked so hard being just 2 guys on the stage for large chunks.

I had been walking around Madrid all day, up since 5 am before the concert and was exhausted. I was falling asleep during the Maccabees' opening act (who were pretty good, though), and when The Black Keys came on I forgot everything and didn't stop until they left (and it still felt like it happened too fast). I'm not a big music guy, but these guys are worth it. If you liked Brothers or El Camino at all, go see them live.

I've been listening to them for a decade now, and The Black Keys are still brilliant but I find their earlier work to be way better. Maybe because it was so much rawer and retro. Thickfreakness for instance, pisses all over their last couple of albums.

I only started listening to their new albums a short while ago, in preparation for the concert, not as familiar with it (and very few people at the concert seemed to even know the earlier songs). I like everything I've listened to though, but my favorite songs are from the last 2 albums. Lonely Boy, Little Black Submarines, Nova Baby would all make my Top 50 songs of all-time, probably.

How did you hear about them in 2002? Surely The Big Come Up didn't get exposure in Portugal?

Also, your sig is misleading. I've said this before. I keep thinking you're making a joke. You suck.

I feel very hipster when talking about The Black Keys, but I do think you should know their earlier albums are way different from their last two/three albums. Still awesome though and still one of the best live acts I've seen.

Now that you brought QotSA up, I remembered this one thing.

There's a big rock festival coming to Finland next year, similar to Sonisphere, but with rock instead of metal. Bands include Stone Sour, Rammstein, Green Day, 30 Seconds to Mars and Queens of the Stone Age, with Dave Grohl on the drums. Definitely want to see that.

First rule of being a hipster, do not talking about being a hipster (nor ever think you're one)

Hahaha, Alex giving lessons on being a hipster (H)

Second rule of being a hipster: you're allowed to say anything if you're being ironic, even talking about how much of a hipster you are, and especially if you're talking to non-hipsters.

Hey, I never do my hair properly, and wore a pain blue t shirt, with black skinny jeans tucked into my boots out tonight.

I was hipster personified.

I also listen to loads of indy and folk rock.

The internet? Friends with good musical taste telling me about them?
I'm not sure how it happened, but I did come across their music by the time they released their first couple of albums.

Yeah, I know I got everything they've done together (barring Blakroc). I listen to their early stuff, I like it, but I'm more familiar with and like their last two more, right now at least.

All bands evolve and change, and I get preferring their early work, as there are lots of banfs that I feel only got worse with every albums, but I like Brothers and El Camino more than Thickfreakness, Attack & Release, etc.
