Civilization, here I come!

Finally, after two weeks of no Interwebs because of my poker dealer course I can now come back to civilization having achieved the following things:

- my poker dealer licence
- a job at the prestigious Casino Kursaal in Oostende which starts on Friday
- an appartment at the Belgian coast where I'll be moving to in six weeks
- male bonding galore
- love-making

I have no clue what happened during my absence and I'm too lazy to catch up in a rush so congratulations, breaking news of the last two weeks and general fluffiness goes in here.

Haha, a guy came into work yesterday and asked if a computer with a Core 2 Duo processor and 3 gig of memory would play Civ 2

Speaking of Civ 2, I'm going to play right now. I always start with the Russians or Chinese, but what is your strategy about technology at the beginning? Usually I rush to Philosophy, but you only get one extra advance, is it really worth it?

I always head for the wonders, so start looking at the paths (especially on harder modes) to go for Great Library.

Simple reason being, once you get that first, you get all the other technologies that people have painstakingly worked for anyway

Then towards Leonardo's Workshop, and so forth.

That makes sense. I find the Pyramids are a decent one too because it helps your cities grow a TON early in the game and I don't think it ever expires. Obviously not as good as the Great Library or Leonardo's Workshop. I always think it's funny when all the computer nations work so hard for crap like the Colossus and Marco Polo's Embassy.

EDIT: Also makes a lot of sense to get The Republic ASAP I think.

Yeah i was gonna say, Republic early on is a beauty.

Mind you, later on, once you can physically throw money at your science budget the unfairly weighted Fundamentalism is the best. Cos, there's little penalty for like support costs, money is LOADS, people are happy but science is crap. All you do is put the tax rate at 70% science and it evens out though.

The Great Wall, The Great Libary, Sun Tzu's War Academy, Leonardo da Vinci's Workshop and Copernicus' Observatory are the big wonders I always opted for. Oh and The Great Lighthouse is also useful to explore the world early on. And I always went for despotism->monarchy->communism, but then again I mostly strived to conquer the world and in communism you get no war exhaustion.

Damn that's a long time ago. Haven't played Civ in years lol.

Sun Tzu's is good but i think something nullifies it pretty soon, something like Engineering when you get Leonardo's Workshop.

Could be wrong though.

I've only got it for the Mac sadly, and that thing is under a blanket upstairs.

That's like literally the only reason i don't play it anymore
