Chelsea Sack Grant!

It's been coming really. Everyone knew he was just a stop-gap and no-one should have been taken in when Chelsea said otherwise. Had he won the Champions League he'd have probably moved upstairs with his reputation enhanced, as it is he's probably back off to manage in Israel.

somehow i feel thats a freakin harsh decision considering the things he achieved apart from trophies during his short spell with cheslea.

He signed a three year contract with two years to run on it, did he not?

Buck [chairman] said: "We have very high expectations at Chelsea and a couple of second place finishes is just not good enough for us. "So although we never would have thought in September when Jose Mourinho left that we would be able to make it into a Champions League final as we did - and that is fantastic - Chelsea are here to win trophies.

El oh el, it's almost as if they are a club with history and actually have a divine right to win anything.

Community Shield - Fail

League Cup - Fail

Premier League - Fail

Champions League - Epic Fail/Wipe.

wow...I honestly don't think anyone;s gonna beat what he managed this season...w'ell see tho

What are you talkin about, all anyone needs to do is win a trophy and thats it (if thats wat you meant), this was a trophy less season. Next year Im optimistic, Grant won me over, and i admit, I judged him by the way he looked which was wrong on my part. I believe we shoulda atleast had two trophies this year, the loss to Barnsley and Tottenham were huge. Sure you can say its the players who didnt play, but whos responsible for giving the players that hunger?

Here are some quotes stolen from eurosport:

Former Israel international Eyal Berkovic: "I have already said that Avram made a number of serious mistakes: his inability to communicate with the English media ... his failure to befriend the fans and the undermining of Jose Mourinho. All these led Roman Abramovich to understand that despite his affection and friendship with Avram, it would not be enough to improve Chelsea's fortunes."

Former Chelsea manager Glenn Hoddle: "It's different than managing any other club. You can understand if someone is putting that amount of finances into a club he wants a say. I think this is where football and business really are different. You have to let the football man run the club. I think they will go foreign. Whoever they go for will be high profile and for me, whoever comes in, you know the wicket is going to be a sticky wicket if you want every single decision. If that's the way Chelsea run the club, that's fine. At least everybody knows what the situation is as you go into a job. If there's any grey areas that's when it tends to go a little bit pear-shaped."

Former Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho: "Chelsea almost won the Carling Cup, almost won the Champions League, and almost won the Premier League. Almost is nothing. After two titles per season for the last three years there were zero titles this season. In my philosophy that means a really bad season. Maybe in the philosophy of a loser this was a great season, which I respect."

Former Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur striker Ronnie Rosenthal : "Any Chelsea coach - not only Avram - who does not win titles will be replaced," Rosenthal told Israel Radio. Had he coached another English club which was not expecting to win titles, it might have been different, but they were playing in four competitions and they didn't win any of them."

Former Chelsea manager Tommy Docherty: "I think it's a terrible decision to make. The man's done an incredible job at Chelsea Football Club, following the great Mourinho. He hardly lost a game. He lost a game the other night on penalty kick which could have gone the other way. I think it's disgraceful."

The News of the World: "For all the money swilling around in Chelsea's coffers, the one commodity they cannot buy is class. Everybody is football knew that Avram Grant was no special one. He was merely a decent and dignified man who deserved to be treated with a modicum of respect. But Chelsea don't do respect - they only do heartless, cruel and vicious."

News of the World really hit a nail there. When Abramovich came good 5 years ago, he said his major goal was to make Chelsea the biggest and most respected club in the world. With Mourinho they became one of the biggest and most hated clubs. But Grant in less than a year managed to change that to one of the biggest and well respected clubs. Now Chelsea are slowly starting to lose respect again and the next manager has to be spot on with that.

BTW do any of you reckon, Mourinho's outspoken nature had anything to do with Grant's sacking. If Roman bought a 2 million dollar car for Mourinho, he could have very well listened to what Jose had to say about Grant.

Fu<king hypocritical wankers. The NOTW and their mother company, News International have persecuted Avram Grant more wickedly than anyone else. If anyone has been heartless, cruel and vicious it is themselves.

They talk about class and respect as if they actually know what those words mean. Fu<king scum newspaper of the lowest order.

And as for other peoples opinions about this matter, plenty were slagging this guy off from day one. Even on the day of the CL final, I read here and everywhere else what a joke the man is.

Now suddenly Chelsea are the villians for sacking someone that nobody had any time for.

Any fu<king excuse to have a pop at Chelsea. The hypocrisy is transparently obvious and its pathetic.

The best quote from Mourinho about Chelsea.
I concur this one..

'In my philosophy it was a very bad one because in football 'almost' means defeat and Chelsea almost won the Carling Cup, almost won the Champions League and almost won the Premier League. Almost is nothing.

It's funny though - but had those two shots that hit the post gone in, Grant would have been celebrated as a hero.

Chances would still have been that he would get sacked anyway though. I never had the feeling the Chelsea board really liked him.

that was the problem, wasn't it? he never had support from anyone. not the fans, not the media, the bloody people who hired him...the poor man was doomed from the day he signed his contract. as for jose's comment, i never liked the man and he reminded me why again. you don't kick someone when they're down. it's just tacky and stupid.

If the reports of Jose's comments are true, then he is still as arrogant and insensitive as he has always been. Someone needs to enlighten Jose that there really is more to life than winning cups and titles. His comments are classless, and do not endear me to him at all. Big ego's are a sign of personal insecurity. He needs to stop giving too much away about himself.

Personally I would be VERY against Jose coming back to my club.

Actually it was about 200 Chelsea followers who would not accept Avram. The rest of us were with him 100%. That needs to be remembered.

What i think NOTW were refering to when talking about "Chelsea" was Roman Abramovich and Peter Kenyon. Not the peripheral staff, players and fans. Those guys are the club right now and they make all the decision, even some of the on-field ones it seems. And you can't deny that Roman and Peter aren't exactly your role models that you want your kids to look up to.

My kids would never see a capitalist bloodsucker as a role model, but I know what you're saying.

And the media should be more specific. When they say "Chelsea", then they are refering to all of us. If its Kenyon they are singling out, then they should say so, instead of painting us all with the same brush.

They are still hypocritical scum anyhow.

well those Jose comments are typical Jose, but thats whats makes him the man he is and thats why everyone loves him.

BUT PEDE is right, you punks were the first to criticize his appointment and now your the first to criticize his sacking. Its true, the media didnt like him from Day 1, and some fans didnt like him from Day 1 either and I admit I was one of them, even though we finished trophy less and lost to Barnsley and that , hes won me over and i gotta say i was wrong for judgin the guy. Lets face it Kenyon, Bruce Buck, Frank Arneson, they gotta gooooo, we gotta make Chelsea like a fortune 500 company, like TOP management, top people who know how to build a successful structure.

And we need a manager who is going to be their for at least the next 5 years, we need continuity the way Sir Alex has done with Man Utd or Wenger and I respect SAF tons and tons hes a top manager if not hes certainly the best manager this year. When you have continuity you have a better identity and more respect (i.e Phil Carlos*son (Bulls, Lakers) , Bill Belichek (Patriots), It happens in every sport and its what makes these other teams strong, stable and successful. Right now I see Jose Mourinho as that guy, hes young with lots of ambition everyone loves him, hes a proven manager and tactically hes brilliant, even though I love it when Jose makes these comments, I can see why ppl say hes arrogant or w/e.
But you know what that can change and we cannot say hes classless NO , by judgin by his comments and not his intentions, NO .. it shouldn't be like this, lets not forget all the charity and development work hes done in Africa , hes done it at Ivory Coast and Ghana recently and many more places, and plus Im sure that players that have said that Jose is like a best friend (i.e Lampard, Terry, Drogba, Malouda,Carvalho, Maks and more.) wouldnt be saying that if he was "classless" or "arrogant" or watever you guys say and it may seem that from few of his comments but its the overall work that should give you a better perspective.

AND thats what I realized that I was totally wrong about Avram Grant he may look evil, but you know what hes not, hes a good man and a good manager and I wish him the best in the future.

Jose Comments were made shortly after the champions league final, before Avram was sacked. Im not blaming you for that misunderstanding as you didnt know. Just an example of how quotes can e mis quated and used for other purposes.

cheers
