Crespo still has to prove himself at Chelsea first.....

Personally i'd like to see him come back ,if only to p.i.ss him off.....use him as a sub until his contract runs out.

1) He had quite a good goals-minutes ratio in the Premiership if I remember right, but was unlucky with injuries, and lets not forget the goal at Highbury!

2) How would we benefit from putting him on the bench for 2 years (I'm guessing at his contract length) just to piss him off? It would cost us loads in wages and then he could walk out on a Bosman free transfer at the end of it; and we'd have to put up with constant moaning to the media which would no doubt lower the morale of the rest of the squad (sounds like the Bogarde situation all over again!).
Or we could sell him to Milan, stop paying the wages and recoup a bit of the transfer fee.

I know what sounds like the better deal to me!

Ah dont get me wrong man....i would rather offload him to be honest......I just dont like his attitude really, especially towards Chelsea.I dont see any point in having someone at the club who dont wanna be there anyway, and you are right ,a whinger like him around would bring the rest of the squad down as well and we really dont need that.To be honest i couldnt give a damn what happens to him....good riddance

CRESPO BAIT FOR ETO'O
By Alan Nixon`

CHELSEA are offering Hernan Crespo to Barcelona as part of a £30million swoop for Samuel Eto'o.

Stamford Bridge owner Roman Abramovich has started talks to land the Cameroon striker and will use Crespo - who has returned from loan at AC Milan - in part-exchange.

Crespo was on the losing side against Liverpool in the Champions League Final, but his two goals increased the chance of the move going through.

There is little hope of him playing again for Chelsea and Abramovich wants to cash in, rather than loan him out again.

Milan are reluctant to pay the £12m Chelsea want, but Barcelona may be prepared to take Crespo plus around £18m for Eto'o.

Abramovich and Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho are convinced Eto'o, whose 28 goals clinched the Spanish title for Barcelona, is the deadly finisher they need.

But Barcelona do not want to part with him and it will be hard to get them to change their mind, even with Chelsea's huge transfer kitty.

However, £6m a year may tempt Eto'o, despite the ill feeling following Barcelona's Champions League defeat by the west Londoners this season.

Eto'o was angered by Mourinho's antics and was alleged to have spat at a steward during the second leg at Stamford Bridge.

Sacked former Chelsea striker Adrian Mutu returned from a seventh-month drugs ban with a substitute appearance for Juventus in a 4-2 win over Cagliari. Ex-Blues star Gianfranco Zola scored both goals for the visitors.

This is just baffling, when you have reports the same day coming out that Kaladze is on the verge of coming to Chelsea in a swap + some cash our way for Crespo.

INTER: ADRIANO WON'T MOVE
by Nadia Carminati - created on 30 May 2005
Internazionale have issued a hands-off warning to those clubs eyeing a summer swoop for Adriano.

The gifted Brazilian has emerged as one of the world's hottest properties after a Serie A campaign that has yielded 26 goals in 35 starts.

Chelsea are thought to be the club most likely to test Internazionale's desire to keep their prized asset with a huge bid this close-season.

However, president Giacinto Facchetti insists the Milan giants have no intention of relinquishing their talismanic striker.

''Adriano? He will stay with us,'' said Facchetti.

''I know he is eyed by many big sides but he won't move.

''This season we started badly, earning 11 draws from the first 13 matches.

''Then we found the right balance. We are ready for next season. We will try to make just small changes because starting in a good way is very important.''

Thoughts? Who should we sign upfront, I think Kezman has to leave.

Here is the article from the Observer

Denis Campbell, sports news correspondent
Sunday May 29, 2005
The Observer

Premiership clubs could receive four points for an away win under plans to be discussed by team bosses who want to make games more entertaining.

The radical idea will be floated at this week's Premier League annual meeting, which will hear calls for dramatic changes to address rising concern that there are too many boring, irrelevant matches.

In a briefing note to chairmen before this week's gathering, Premier League chief executive Richard Scudamore has listed the many challenges that clubs face if the Premiership is to safeguard its status as the world's most popular and most lucrative league. It is a summary of areas of concern identified by the league's Attendances Working Group, which was set up last November to examine whether the increase in the number of matches shown on Sky television - up from 106 to 138 - and prices charged by clubs were affecting crowd levels.

The issues include 'quality of football - negativity, formations, less attacking play' and what many clubs believe is the closely related issue of 'competitiveness of the League - predictability, including points structure'. The recent decline in the number of away fans, the increased number of matches moved from Saturday 3pm kick-offs to suit television and negative impact of misbehaviour by players and managers are also on the agenda.

Several club chairmen and chief executives told Observer Sport yesterday of their fears that the tendency for teams to opt for safety-first football, deploying only one forward in a cautious attempt to avoid defeat, was producing too much dull play, leaving fans frustrated.

'Last season more and more teams played 4-5-1,' said one chairman. 'It may help them pick up more points than they might otherwise have got and increase their chances of staying up, but it's often not exciting. There are too many irrelevant, unmemorable games, especially involving teams in the middle of the table who won't get relegated or get into Europe, and especially towards the end of the season.'

Another chairman said: 'This trend towards 4-5-1 is understandable - the financial consequences of not surviving in the Premiership are serious - but it cannot be good for the Premier League in the long run. There are signs that, combined with the saturation coverage of games on TV and the cost and hassle of attending matches, this could make some fans stop coming.'

Encouraging the visiting team to attack by awarding them four points for a win is one of the ideas to be discussed. Concern about the attractiveness of the Premiership will be heightened by the revelation that matches televised by Sky suffered a 10 per cent fall in their average audience last season. Official figures from the British Audience Research Bureau published last week by TV Sports Markets magazine show that an average of 1.224million viewers per match tuned in during the 2004-05 season, a drop of 9.7 per cent on the previous season's 1.356m.

Club executives say that, with 32 further fixtures being shown and league rules requiring each team to be screened a certain number of times, a loss in the quality of some games shown - and reduction in the average audience - was inevitable. However, league chiefs are heartened by the fact that the total number of viewers watching live games over the course of the season has risen. It went up from 89.5m in 2003-04 to 107.7m, an increase of 20.4 per cent.

The annual meeting may also hear rumbles of discontent about the way the Premier League share out broadcasting revenue and claims that clubs below the unofficial Big Four of Chelsea, Arsenal, Manchester United and Liverpool get too little. But new figures from the League, revealing how much each club earned last season, show the gap between the top and bottom clubs has narrowed. Chelsea, the champions, received £30.7m, while Southampton, who finished bottom, were paid £18.4m.

---------

Reading this, would be a stupid idea, however if it was inplace in 04/05 this is how the table would of looked.

Chelsea 110
Arsenal 95
Man Utd 87
Everton 67
Bolton 65
Liverpool 63
Middlesbrough 60
Man City 57
Tottenham 57
Aston Villa 51
Charlton 50
Birmingham 48
Fulham 48
Newcastle 47
Blackburn 46
Portsmouth 41
West Brom 35
Crystal Palace 34
Southampton 34
Norwich 33

----------

The only chance would of been swapping Bolton with Liverpool, and Southampton with Norwich.

Stupid idea, the system is fine now, doesn't need fixing so don't fix it.

Nice work Rob......yeah i agree its a stupid idea.If the Premier league want to ensure bigger attendances at away matches, then something has got to be done about ticket prices, and that includes all ticket prices, for home matches as well as away.No way can i afford to watch Chelsea at home and then 3 days later cough up for an away ticket, the fare or fuel money to say,Newcastle.Ticket prices are a joke especially at Chelsea. This club is seriously beginning to lose its identity by making it impossible for the working guy to afford to go to games.Last season i saw a bigger shift towards Gloryhunting affluent people at home games.I've been going to Chelsea all my life, meeting the same faces week in and week out.Last season i saw less and less of the hard core fans that have folloewd Chelsea for years.Instead they are being replaced by the "prawn sandwich brigade".Kenyon dont care either. As long as the tickets are sold he dont worry about anything else.I hear ticket prices at Chelsea are about to rise again. As i've said before,i might be a Chelsea supporter but i am not a mug,and they can stick their tickets up their rear end if an increase does happen. You get Arsenal fans being forced to help pay for a new stadium with their ticket increases, and we are expected to help pay the wages and transfer fees of our players. This is not the way its supposed to be.At the end of the day,we might revel in some glory but its someone else who is actually making the money and taking the profits.I never thought i would ever consider this but,its more affordable for me to get sky and become an armchair fan, than continue to allow Chelsea to take from me such a huge layout every season.I just cannot afford it anymore.

As for players in and out...i hear Essien is gonna stay in France next season. If Crespo is at least enthusiastic about playing for us ,then thats cool.As for Eto...after the disgusting way that he lied about Chelsea racially abusing him,(and did UEFA ever do anything about him over that?) and the continual crap that he spews out about us...then without a huge apology first.....he can just f.u.c.k. off as far as i am concerned. Its a matter of principles.....but then i wonder if Chelsea has any of those left anymore.

Ahh, new year, new thread (H)

for posterity's sake, the old thread: http://www.soccergaming.tv/showthread.php?t=94331

Now, to the topic at hand, the everpresent striker issue. With all this business about Del Horno, I too think that perhaps Hernan's return is on the brink. Seeing his performances during the season, Im all for it, as he wont cost a dime and has clear ability. If he can stay free of the injury bug, then who is to say what he is capable of in England: we dont know for certain that he is an exclusive Serie A wonder. If Crespo wants to return, give him a go for 6 months, and if its still not working, then ship him wherever. That all assumes, of course, that rumor that Jose doesnt like Argies is untrue ;)

As for the strike force in general, I expect Kezza to be given his walking papers anyday now, sadly. He cost so little, I really didnt care that he wasnt as brilliant as his time at PSV belied. Yet coming back today, and catching up with articles, I was dismayed at this: http://soccernet.espn.go.com/headlinenews?id=334616&cc=5901

Everton close in on Forssell's signature

Everton claim they are closing in on a deal to bring Chelsea striker Mikael Forssell to Goodison Park.
Blues chief executive Keith Wyness revealed today that officials from both clubs have held talks about the player.

'We haven't reached agreement yet, but we are not far apart now,' he told the club's website.

Everton face competition for the 24-year-old Finn from Birmingham, where Forssell had a successful spell on loan before suffering an injury.

Should a deal be struck between the clubs Forssell would be expected to arrive on Merseyside to discuss personal terms and undergo a medical as soon as possible after completing international duty with Finland.

:|
Does the club just hate Mikael, or something? Its not like he was given any chance this season to show his stuff outisde of a few meaningless games, and now hes back out the door again? Not only does he deserve a chance, he has been arguably the best striker the club have had the last two years, in terms of performance, and he's embarrassed them scoring all his goals for another team. If he has to leave, im glad it everton, and I hope its not another loan: enough jerking him around.

Speaking of Everton, what's all this about them looking to nab Paker and Carlo? Again, I like the toffee's as a club, and am in awe of their achievements this season, but Id rather Chelsea retain Parker and sell Carlo to an Italian club, as I get the feeling he's going to rob Chelsea of a few in the future if he stays in england. Scotty has been rather unlucky this season, but his ability in the haphazard cavalcade of talent the team was last year. If he can stay in Maka's shadow for a year or two, and learn from him, he can be excellent in the holding role. Cmon' Scotty.

Anyway, we have heard about Jose brining in a forward, a LB, and a mid. Being that the LB is in all liklihood Del Horno, who is everyone's realistic picks for the other two spots?

For me, I love Joaquin and Essien's talents, but I think the former would upset the Cole-Duff-Robben wing rotation that has worked well up until now, and the latter, well, that might mean Parker's sure exit. If Scotty departs before that point, id love to see Essien come, but until that point....

Thus, ill say Fernando Torres up front, and now that Stevie the bindipper is gone (personally, i didnt want to see him in blue in the first place, despite his obvious class) ill go off the beaten path and say Emre. Rob's idea about a Wisey return has got me jonesin' for that though. Player/co-assistant? (6)

However, id cream myself if Owen was signed, and until a forward is brought in, the possibility is always there. He or Torres up front with Drogba could make the team 4-4-2able with the ability to put away the balls lobben in he can knock down, plus theyve got speed.

Man, i could go forever at this stuff, but I'll stop now. Here's to two in a row for the blues!

'Tapping' trio hit with record fines

Chelsea have been fined £300,000 and hit with a suspended three-point deduction by the Premier League after being found guilty of making an illegal approach to Ashley Cole.
The points penalty will only be imposed if Chelsea commit a similar offence during the 2005/06 season.

Cole was fined £100,000 for his compliance, despite the Premier League declaring that he had been 'manipulated to a large extent by his agent'', and Mourinho was ordered to pay £200,000 as punishment for their roles in the saga.

The Premier League stated that the financial penalty imposed on the Arsenal and England defender would mean 'it is unlikely that Ashley Cole will ever be tempted in this way again''.

An independent commission concluded that the Arsenal and England defender did meet at a London hotel with Chelsea officials, including manager Jose Mourinho, to discuss a potential transfer to Stamford Bridge.

All parties acted without Arsenal's permission, and a complaint from the Gunners in February led the Premier League to carry out a thorough investigation.

Cole jetted in from New York to hear his fate at Premier League headquarters personally, hours after playing for England in their 3-2 win over Colombia.

He was found in breach of Premier League rule K5, which prohibited him from approaching Chelsea with a view to negotiating a transfer.

Chelsea were determined to have broken rule K3, forbidding them talking to Cole by any means while under contract and without Arsenal's authority. Cole's deal still has two years left to run.

Mourinho was deemed to be in breach of rule Q, governing managers' conduct.

It was first reported in January that Cole, Mourinho and Chelsea chief executive Peter Kenyon met at the Royal Park Hotel in London.

The FA launched their investigation seven days after the initial allegations, and charges were brought in March, with an independent commission hearing the case last month.

Chelsea's `super agent' Pini Zahavi was also alleged to have been at the Lancaster Gate meeting, as was Cole's representative Jonathan Barnett.

However, neither fall under the jurisdiction of the Premier League and therefore there could not be any imposition on them today.

The Premier League statement nonetheless added: 'We recommend that the responsible bodies concerned should investigate the roles of Pini Zahavi and Jonathan Barnett.'

The fines dwarf the Premier League's existing records in such a case, the £20,000 which Liverpool were ordered to pay for making an illegal approach to Christian Ziege, while he was at Middlesbrough in 2000.

The Germany defender was fined £10,000, while Aston Villa were more recently warned and ordered to pay costs for making an illegal approach to James Beattie in 2004.

The record fine meted out to an English club still stands at the #1.5million which Tottenham were ordered to pay after being found guilty of illegal payments to players in 1994.

Cole's legal team had been understood to be considering a defence that players should be entitled to talk to other clubs at any time during their contracts.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger had warned of 'chaos' if they had succeeded.

All parties have 14 days in which to appeal, and Ashley Cole's agent has confirmed that his client will do so 'immediately'.

so discuss. Couldve been worse, for sure, but if the allegations are true, and this wasnt some lame set up by Zavi, then its well deserved.

Also, does anyone know when Del Horno will be introduced? Or even if? I havent heard anything new on the situation, but there was that comment by Kaladze about being certain of a transfer to Chelsea now clouding the situation. Either way, id be happy

Chelsea will only be deducted points if they are found guilty of the same offence of tapping up a player next season, and at the Premier League's discretion.

TheBlueBalla

Well, if thats the case, then its pretty fair: From now on, though, the FA should come down hard on teams for tapping up. I know what Cole is claiming has merit, about the legality of what he does in the outside world, but still, I think its a pretty dodgy practice and teams should be scared out of even trying

Adriano apparrently wont come, even for 65 million. At that Price, thank god, but : http://soccernet.espn.go.com/headlinenews?id=334863&cc=5901

More 'Kaladze to Chelsea' Stuff:
http://soccernet.espn.go.com/headlinenews?id=334851&cc=5901
Nothing new here, just the same story swimming around. Honestly, this seems like the more sensible and feasable deal, what with Hernan at Milan, but supposedly, according to this article, Kaladze is urging the clubs to agree (despite the fact that theyre supposedly not even in discussion yet???) so if its to be believed he wants the move. I really think the guy, being only 27, could still have great years ahead of him, and really push Bridgey without the curly-haired one. Also, theres none of the possibility of stunting the guys development as there is with Del Horno, as he seems to have come to a professional plateau.

Oh, and its completely baseless, but the more and more I read about Owen to Chelsea, even if they are just his twisted comments and conjecture, the more and more i get excited. My favorite player coming to the blues would be a dream realized, and after this year in spain and this weeks hattrick, its quite clear "the midget" has still got it :hump:

What i'd like to know is where does the £400,000 go to.Does it go into Premier league pockets or is it invested into something useful for the game. The huge difference between the fines given to Chelsea and the fines given to Liverpool for exactly the same offence is scandalous. It is irrelevent whether Chelsea is a rich club or not, there is already a precedent as regards punishment for this offence, and i think the Premier League,(who are ,lets face it a greedy bunch of scumbags)....decided to make some money out of this.Put it this way.....If a millionaire gets nicked for breaking the speed limit, and a regular guy gets nicked for the same thing, the millionaire does not recieve a bigger fine because he has more money....he recieves the same fine as anyone else. That is called justice and there is a saying in England that goes"everyone is equal in the eyes of the law".......well obviously not where the Premier League are concerned.Liverpool were fined £20,000,thats it.No suspended 3 points docked hanging over their heads.Does the fact that David Dien, the Arsenal chairman is on the board of thre Premier League have anything to do with the punishment dished out?
Kenyon must be a complete wanker to have got Chelsea into this mess, and showed how arrogant and stupid he is to have the meeting in public.I dont see anything wrong in what they all did to be honest, but knowing the rules of the Premier League,as unlawful as they are, they should have been more careful, thats all.I agree with Ashley Cole. The European Union laws exist for a reason and i dont see why an employee of a club cannot talk to who he pleases, just like as an employee of a company can talk to whoever he likes if he thinks he can improve his circumstances.I too have a contract of employment but i am not restricted from seeking out another employer while still contracted.I hope Ashley does take his case to the European court. That would be a huge kick in the balls for the Premier League and it could have massive consequences as did the Bosman ruling.
Agents have to be sorted out as well......every scandal that exists within football is mainly because of dodgy dealings by agents.I agree that a player should have representation but the actions of agents has gotta be controlled and its about time that the football authorities did something about it.

Thats the point Surfy......there must be a set punishment for any offences, whoever commits them. The Premier League cannot treat each club differently, that is just predjudice. If Liverpool, who commited the same offence ,only had a £20,000 fine, then why is that same level of punishment not imposed on ALL clubs for this offence. It is not an argument to say that Chelsea are richer than Liverpool.Liverpool,at the time of the offence were richer than many clubs in the league.£20,000 was the fine then and £20,000 should be the fine now.Liverpool were never threatened with having points deducted if they re-offended so why are Chelsea?I'll tell you why,its because David Dien is on the board at the Premier League and that must constitute a conflict of interest. He is the Chairman of Arsenal for gods sake. The Premier League board should be made up of people who have NO connections with any club whatsoever, and this is a perfect example of how a connection with a club is corruptive. All along Arsenal wanted points deducted and thats as close as they could get it ,by getting their chairman to fight ,at least for a suspended docking of points. The whole issue stinks.I can remember quite a few offences commited by Arsenal over the years, like using players on false passports and even, surprise surprise, allegations of poaching or tapping up of players. Not once has Arsenal ever been asked to explain themselves by the Premier League. How could they be asked?David Dien is one of THEM.The fine to Chelsea is easily payable,we all know that.£20,000 or £200,000,its all the same to Chelsea. So then you gotta ask yourself, why did Chelsea get a higher fine if it still wouldn't hurt them in the wallet? The answer must be so that the Premier League could make some money from the issue. They are a bunch of spiv businessmen who know or care, sod all about football. They are in it for the profit. These bunch of crooks have nothing top do with the FA.They are an independant body that oversees the league that they created, and it was created in the first place to oversee the distribution of TV revenue to the bigger clubs. That is why Dien is there,to look after Arsenals interests, and only a mug wouldn't see that. The FA are powerless to step in and so that leaves the EPL,one of,if not THE most lucretive league in the world,in the hands of a bunch of greedy moneygrabbing parasites, who live off the backs of our clubs. Its about time they were investigated and its time to stop the rot.And you know why the Premier League fear Chelsea?....Because Chelsea have so much money that they are not afraid to upset the status quo at the Premier League and the PL can see itself loosing its stranglehold on the clubs....that is what scares them so much.Still you cant blame Arsenal for trying to tip the playing field in their favour....lets face it,they do need all the help they can get don't they?I guess they know that without a bit of help they have not a cat in hells chance of bettering us from now on...........
