Taking that into consideration, I think we will get a very professional and a more mature Anelka than we have seen before. His behaviour for Bolton on and off the pitch, has been exemplary so I think he has been sorted for a while now anyway.

has a lot to do with his conversion to Islam

actually, how old is Anelka? is he able of pulling off premiership football for another 4 years?

28; 29 soon ... usually i would say 'no' to the latter question, but it will depend how sparingly Chelsea decide to use him ... his contract length and the price that was paid, in any case, reflect (IMO) the club's intention: he is not a stop-gap solution, but part of a longer-term plan ...

I think he'll definitely be able to peform this season and next season. Assuming he doesn't get many injuries of course, I can't see why that can't happen. The only problem with Anelka could come when his pace goes, which isn't far away. I think Thierry Henry is having this problem at the moment. But a 4 year contract isn't bad, even if his peformances do drop in 3 years, he won't ever be less than a backup in that time.

this is a bit sad, now we got Anelka but Drogba's leaving at the end of the season. An Anelka/Drogba striker partnership would've been fantastic. And no doubt Schev will improve but Drogba's the better and younger player.

It's not definate that Drog is leaving. You know what he's like, put him in front of a microphone and he just can't stop yapping. Add to that the media's liking for digging up old quotes, and that leaves me thinking I'll just wait and see whether this rumour has any truth in it or not. Probably Drogs idea of pre contract renewel tactics. Probably just after a pay rise and just needs to hear how much we all love him once more. ( He IS very sensitive like that you know).:D

It looks like Nic is in the squad for the Spuds game tommorow. Cech should be back, and Makalele playing is a strong possibility. I'm looking forward to getting to the Bridge for this one.

damn pede, have ya got seasons tickets or summat? I've got a great feeling about this one, hopefully it will live up to my expectations and Spurs end up at the wrong end of the result!! Hoping to see a nice typical entertaining London derby!! Don't want to see any more red cards from our side!! Watching it on Telly tho....Lets hope Nic gets a decent game to start things running......C'mon Chelsea!!

I just can't see how a guy like Anelka(known for his short clubs stays and lack of commitment to a club's cause; plus great lady-like moaning) can be a "long-term" option for Chelsea. If i had to choose between Anelka in great shape and Scheva in the current sloppy condition, i'd have chosen Sheva for sure.
I think the only reason why Grant wanted Anelka is, there is no other good EPL striker, that can cost less than 20 mil and comes from a downside club. Maybe Santa Cruz too, but he would increase in value, since he's younger. All others - Agbonlahor, Berbatov, Mwaruwari are either from clubs that won't sell or would sell for more than 20 mil.

In case Drogba leaves and you hope you'll maintain form and results with Anelka - hahah, this ain't gonna happen. Drogba is 2 or 3 classes above Anelka big way. So try to sign new contract with Drogba and make him happy.

Well you would. You aint a Chelsea fan. We have both of them fortunately.

I think Chelsea will aim to do that for Drogba. Anelka was bought in to add to and to compliment the existing Chelsea attack, and not to suddenly turn into the deadliest goal getter that the World has ever seen. He will be part of, and a fine addition to the squad.

We miss Drogba at the moment for sure, but as long as we are still scoring goals and winning games I don't see where we are having too much of a problem with him gone. I hope the Ivory Coast get eliminated as early as possible though, so we can get him back soon.

Yup, 2-0 win against Spurs. Two great goals from Belletti and SWP, the latter's goal amazingly assisted by Joe Cole. This was a hard fought midfield battle that had Spurs looking attack minded from the kick off. I thought they played well.

We, on the other hand played much better. Very strong defensively indeed. Maka or Alex kept Berbatov very quiet. Midfield players had a very able 90 minutes and Pizarro was pants, I'm sorry to say.(N)

Another 3 points, and with the Arse dropping points today, we are now only 4 points behind the Arse AND Man U.

That, constitutes a good day for me.:D:lui:

Adobe, I think you're going on Anelka's old reputation, rather than his recent actions, which are much more mature and show that he has finally grown up.

(Read pede's excellent post about Anelka above yours)

Didn't see the game, noticed Malouda's back though woot. And Ben Haim from the bench :)

anyways, was Ballack noticeable? And I really wish that they'd put Sidwell in before the 90th minute every time.

Ballack had a bit of quiet game but not his fault really since Makelele ran the game from midfield superbly, but Ballack did got a goal disallowed for offside, and he helped out defensively when he needed to....Malouda, SWP and Joe Cole were awesome, Pizzaro was holding up the ball well but didn't do enough to create any chances to score....Anelka looked cool and composed for someone playing with a new team...could've scored twice....:D

Good move by Sidwell, and Chelsea. I never quite understood why he left reading..

Hey Pede, With Ballack playing great in midfield. How do you see the midfield playing out when Lampard and Terry return??

TBH, I dont think Avram Grant fancies Sidwell very much at all. He has given him limited time on the pitch and Steve never really got much of a chance at Chelsea. The rumour is that Sidwell will sign for Sunderland if he likes it there.

Ballack and Lampard will be great together. Before Ballacks comeback there wasn't any problem with it because Ballack was pretty awful at times, but now with Ballack playing well, I can only see the two of them complimenting each other. I think Grant will use them wisely incorporating them into a formation that will suit them both. Jose never did that because of Ballacks previous bad form.

I am really liking having Anelka at the club. Drog says that he is really looking forward to pairing up with him, and the feeling is mutual it seems. I look forward to Drogs return with anticipation.

I cant see Pizarro lasting much longer at the club now that Anelka has arrived. I should think that either Sidwell or Ben Haim will be released too.

Zakov

Senior Squad
Me thinks if all of them are available and in good form, a 4-4-2 should do the trick....with Ballack, Lampard, Anelka and Drogba....

but then again, i wonder who's going to provide protection for the back four...? Ballack? or Lampard? meh, probably a bad idea for a formation....
we need Mikel or Essien or Makelele just behind the midfield.....
