Does anyone have any ideas how I can play Guardado and Marcelo together in the same side? I have both of them in the third season at West Brom and I'd like to utilize the talents of both, but overlapping runs seem impossible in this game unfortunately. I started with Marcelo on defense and Guardado in mid, but switched it because Guardado seems to have slightly better defensive instincts, and plays only slightly better there. Any clues?

Yes I know I shouldn't have both, but I do. And I'm not retraining one to the right because I have Gourcuff (and vanden borre) there

1.Have one as LWB and another as AML.
2.Play with 3 CBs and with one DMC.
3.Focus play on left wing.
4.Have a hilariously unsymetrical side.

Yes, Marcelo the left wingback from Fluminense who signed for Real Madrid in real life.

I've had limited success with an asymetrical formation in the past, but it's just so awkward to look at.

I am also very hesitant to focus passing down the left side because I have vanden Borre and Gourcuff on the right and obviously I want to keep them involved.

I've also considered giving them both free roles and see how it works out (maybe I would see some overlapping and cuts inside), but I don't think I would save the game since it has major backfiring possibilities.

I reckon it's pretty impossible. I spent ages trying to get them in my side together and can't make it work. I reckon Marcelo works best as a AML and Guardado as a LB.
I think I ended up selling Guardado as I got a good offer and he was unhappy (I haven't played for over a month and can't really remember )

maybe you could try the "swap positions" option, that way you could get the best of both worlds... or the worst of both. A gamble but worth a try - i found it quite successful with my Spurs team.

Yeah, Guardado doesn't make quite as many mistakes, so I put him at LB as well. Still successful a year or two after I posted this thread. Still no offer for either player

Daz, I tried the swap position option, but it doesn't seem to do anything, it just swaps the positions permanently. No overlapping runs, or alternating positions.

Just bought Gareth Bale for 9.75M Euros plus 20% of next transfer. Manchester United enquired about Guardado, and I told them I would sell for 90M. They accepted!! I mean, come ON! How could I possibly turn that down. Guardado isn't even that good as a left back, I just upgraded my squad and pocketed 80M. One player took me from a club dependent on a deep Champions League run to be considered rich, to set for life. Andres Guardado FTW!!

Man U don't play him either. They seem to prefer this awful 4-3-3 with Torres as striker, and Rooney and Ronaldo as the wingers. Doesn't make the best of their squad as Guardado is 90M worth of cover, and De Guzman is playing in the center, not on the wing. They had 4 draws and 4 losses through their first 8 EPL games!

i always played Guardado as a ML/AML and he was always phenomenal after the first season win which he'd be fairly average.
