Usually, I buy a copy of Pro Evo and it takes me a week or so to get used to the new version, but once I am used to it, I can usually appreciate that the game is an improvement on the last version - this has been the case with every version I've played right back to the original ISS PES on the PS1.

However, I've now had this game for the best part of 3 weeks and I'm struggling to find anything positive to say about it.

I like to play on the wide camera angle, and the difference in quality between 2008 and PES6 is evident on this angle (i.e. it's worse).

The online system is a joke: No LAN play (again) and the match room setup is significantly worse than the last version - and usually after a month or two of master leagues etc, the online play is all I use.

Gameplay is usually the aspect that takes most getting used to, but I'm still not really loving 2008 here either. Having goalkeepers that make David James look like Gordon Banks doesn't help.

I usually hate reading the rubbish from peple saying "I'm going back to FIFA" (I'm not btw, I wouldn't touch FIFA with a sh**ty stick), but I find myself feeling as negative as the people I've called noobs in the past.

Can anyone persuade me that this is a better game?

Watch this, this is Gordon Banks... quite possibly one of the greatest saves in history

I too am finding PES2008 so frustrating, fair enough having the new next-gen graphics engine but its as if Nokami are trying to re-invent the wheel in some aspects rather than bring the ideas over from past games, like the inability to change the camera angle (I was another one for having Normal Medium on angle "9") and even the kit editor in PES2 had more choice for a start. The keepers are either superman or superdud, managed to score a goal from an acute angle by virtue of the keeper pushing it in his own net.

I'm not going to be one of these FIFA defectors, I played PES after getting fed up of EA doing what Nokami seem to be doing right now, though funny enough I installed PES3 on my PC for the first time in a year and enjoying it a lot, if only Nokami built upon that rather than too many tweaks here and there... :junior:

I played it a lot, i could not find anything new or exciting or refreshing about it, the goly bug makes the game a farse, lag on line is the worst ever, lack of game modes, license leagues stadia etc is also getting on my nerves. I decided to sell it on ebay, but i can just sell the code if anyone is interested.

Sry guys I seriously LOL@allofyouwhothinkpse08iscrap.
ok again, all of you who think pes08 is crap, probably have extremly limited experience in REAL football. How dare you say pes6 has better grafics than 08? buy a new Grafics card.
Gameplay, if you like the whole, hey look at me i can hold on to the ball for 90mins, and everypass is a 100% success, then go to the arcade and play some random footie game there.
AND about the goalies. When have you EVER seen a keep hold on to each ball.(NEVER) AND WHEN have you ever seen a goalie have a good or bad day?(All the time)
I dont understand why ppl complain about realistic aspects. Things that yes, are deeply frustrating, but at the same time make the game REAL.
Its the same story, with Gamespot, the morron of an author complains just like many of you, that the NEW features, which the game apprently lacks... are stupid, when in fact it is pure realism. (all except that every CPU FK is a top corner goal)\

ONline play, admitted terrible!

BUT when we are talking about honesty, PEs08 was and is not designed for online play but enjoyable offline play with the Extensive Masterleague Feature. ANd that Just ROCKS!!!

@spite, the lil window is a nice lil addon, nothing too fancy but it shows that there is a lil more to the game than just 11v11.

with your vid card, check settings, there is a option . nullify frame skipping, I did that and its working fine.

Serisouly ppl, being honest? stop the bitching, and just play the game. because either way if ur not going to play FIFA then you will obviously keep on playing pes08.

PS: regariding liscensing, have you thought about why fifa is called fifa, and why fifa is not willing to sell full rights to konami at a fair price? hmm maybe because they have a full deal with EA?

I'm really hopeful on PES 2009 when it comes out. PES 2008 is a very slow step in the right direction. Graphically its fantastic if you ask me, and I like the gameplay of it to be honest. They need to work on quite a few things though.

I struggle to understand why KONAMI don't reward their loyal fanbase by allowing us to create as many leagues as we wish (this will allow us to open the opportunity of having as many leagues as we like in the game...)

They really really should work on a decent Editor that allows us to change the name of ANY team, including licensed ones.

I hope Seabass and the rest of the KONAMI lot will start to listen to the fans.

That sums up the PES fan boy for me, and sure there are Fifa fan boys too. But the '..I wouldnt touch it with a ****ty stick...' and that is however good it is.
Well there are no laws against stupidity is there.

LOL, I've played this year's FIFA mate - In fact I've played every version of the game for the last 12 years and as much as I have my misgivings about this years PES offering, I know that FIFA is no better. Kids game.

Pes fanboys & Fifa fanboys will always be sucked into purchasing there preferred game season in season out, as a fence sitter i'll give you my views, I thought Pes 6 for the 360 was a decent game, plenty of fun to be had with your mates, the online experience was some what disappointing because of living in Australia, could only play online against fellow aussies, i had great expectations for Pes 2008 with all the hype about it being truly next gen blah blah blah, i followed it's progress during the off season, and never even gave fifa a look, i was pumped at the prospect of a great game from seabass and his crew, fifa demo was released for the 360 and i thought how poor it was, closer to release time for Pes things started to emerge that had the warning bells ringing, pes 2008 demo was released for the 360 and overall impressions were not good, a few weeks before release i made the decision not to purchase Pes this season i went with Fifa this season, and although still lacking in certain depts, it does give me something to play this season online and offline, Fifa's current online modes, and now the introduction of 5v5 online is very good, and will be next season the final nail in the coffin for Pes if it does not get it's act together big time

Ufff...this game sucks in realism. Almost every time, with class player, on hardest level, i can start dribbling from center all way down to goalkeeper. Almost every time. With class attacker in red form, i will score 2-3 goals in game, almost every time. ALL ATTACKING AND DRIBBLING ATTRIBUTES SHOULD BE DRASTICALLY REDUCED TO RETURN ANY REALITY TO GAMEPLAY. Still no editor!

You are so easy to please. You are what I call, PES sheep. They can include a used condom in the box and you think its the best game ever, they can kill your mother right in front of you and you would think they are the best ever. Now, I haven't played PC version but 360 version is one huge pile. Doesn't look, feel or play next gen, still has an overall presentation that looks like it was put together by 7th grade arts and crafts students and online is imposiible due to awful servers. Then, it's stripped down to make things worse. Then it's way too fast, players move all weird, like choppy marching soldiers still... On PS2 it's nearly passable but on 360 and PS3????? It's inappropriate. Seabass said they spent 2 years making it, what were they doing for the last 23 months?(H)
