I wouldn't exactly trust this source for "news" :P
Just trust me on this, better wait for some preview-reviews that most proly are comin out next week.
Just to add a little something, bout 2 weeks ago unofficial sources claimed that the r600chip does better 3d mark scores with the, at the time, latest drivers...
No real benchmark scores have been made available to the pubilc, nor will ever be until ATi sends the oem/review versions to websites/press that make reviews.

I have to admit tho all these "its so good" or "oh its so bad" "news" stories coming out every week from pro nvidia or pro ati/amd websites are really fun to read!! :D

Starting XI
From what I've heard the 2900XTX got totally wiped out by the 8800GTX, but like alex said.....lets wait and see. After all the so called "8600ultra" turned out to be a shadow of what it was expected to be so I'm hoping its the opposite in this case :)

The Red Devil
I was tempted to go for Radeon HD 2900 XT after the NDA was broken yesterday, but the price tag of £275 (inc vat) has just left me almost entirely unconvinced that it would be worth even considering over an 8800 GTS at the present time, even more so given that a Leadtek/POV 8800 GTS 640Mb can now be had for £213 and £225 (inc vat) with free delivery from Ebuyer.

I'm guessing launch day and low stock levels are the factors behind the current price of the HD 2900 XT, but if it drops then I'm not expecting it to drop by much, probably around the £250 mark at best depending on stock/brand/warranty/bundle.

I'm not building a new machine for a month or two yet so I'll wait until then before making up my mind as things could change, i.e. price/performance, improved benchmarks with later drivers. But it's good to see some form of competition at long last.

Ive read about prices in the 350-399 price range. Guess we'll have to wait for that. But if I do find one with just 350 (euros) Im gonna buy it. Unless Nvidia drops the 640mb 8800gts price down there ;p

Anyway, hopefully the GDDR4-65nm r600 will be out b4 too late. That will surely make prices go down further more :(

yeh im getting a 320meg GTS for my system, should be interesting in a few months time though, when they release the 65nm version of this card, will use alot less power and produce less heat :)

And different memory, DDr4 with 1gb versions. Will cost lot more tho...

Bit of speculation but i think it would make more sence to have a XTX version with ddr4 and then an XT with just the ddr3 using the 65nm

There will be a 1gb version with higher clocked memory out soon. But what is really needed is R650. And price cut for 8800s :p.

Will there be another price cut this summer, that's worth waiting for? I'm about to make a deal for a new rig, but I'm holding out for one such cut. I'm currently twisting my arm to get a 640 MB version of the 8800 GTS, over a 320 MB one, but I'd like it to drop to below €300 before I do.

On the side: What about mobo's? A Gigabyte P35 DS4 sounds good to me.

P35 = new 965
x38 = new 975

Give it a month ruud and see how it goes with x38 when it hits the market.
I also know for sure that there will be price cuts soon, Im just not sure whether it is for Nvidia or Intel. Anyway, either way you win.
Hell, if you wait one month we might be even upgrading together at the same time (H)

Yeah, I'll hold out a while. Thinking about it, the college year will be over soon and there's not so many games in american football in the summer.

Intel is the one making the price cuts it turns out... Also im guessing that this one will be having the same price with the 6700. Which means that the 6700 will be better coz 1333 fsb for the 6x50 means.. wont be very overclockable... Anyway, we'll have to actually see them in action to decide.
Im hoping for a x38 in a cheap dual core cpu&ddr2 (even tho ddr2 wont be officialy supported in x38boards) and then upgrade with a penryn quad or octa&ddr3 in 1-1.5yrs. Fingers crossed :(

Those hi-end duals really look delicious with such huge price cuts btw :(
