We were up 4-0 with 15 minutes left to play so Mancini decided to make some substitutions. I think it was a smart move considering we play against Bayern on Wednesday, but the substitutions didn't work out. It wasn't the defenses fault, it was the fact that everything got out of order when these substitions were made.
Also, what you are missing is Chievo isn't as weak as they are playing right now. They aren't a small team, but they also aren't a big team. How they are playing right now isn't how they should be playing, what they showed in the last 15 minutes against Inter was how they should be playing.
Besides playing Inter, Roma haven't faced a difficult opponent, except maybe Livorno on the first match day, who would be a team similar to Chievo. Inter on the other hand have had the most difficult schedule to start comprising of Fiorentina, Sampdoria, Roma, and Chievo. Every one of those teams is a team that belongs in the top half of the table, with the first three belonging in the top 5.

Roma’s January bid for Cicinho could be off after the Real Madrid right-back suffered a serious knee injury.
The Brazilian pulled up during last night’s 1-0 win over Real Betis and initial reports suggest he has snapped the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee.
If the diagnosis is confirmed, he’ll be out of action for at least six months and unable to play again this season.
Roma had been in negotiations to take the player on loan this summer, but the club confirmed the deal stalled because Real preferred an outright £7m sale.
There had been strong rumours that Cicinho would’ve completed the loan move in January, but the injury could put the brakes on that switch.

Luciano Spalletti believes that victory over Valencia will almost assure Roma of Champions League qualification – but he’s not counting his chickens yet.
The Giallorossi will face the Spanish side at the Mestalla Stadium in Wednesday’s Champions League fixture with three points already on the board after the 4-0 win over Shakhtar Donetsk.
“Both teams are doing well in the League, and we mustn’t forget that Valencia held Barcelona to a draw just a few days ago,” said Spalletti.
“They are very strong as a group, but also have talented individuals, such as David Villa and Fernando Morientes.
“The winners would definitely be in pole position to qualify for the next phase – that is why I am considering who to field in the starting line-up.
“I have tough choices to make among my players. Francesco Totti and Vincenzo Montella play well together, but I can’t confirm I will field both against Valencia.
"As to Totti [who turns 30 on the day of the match], all he needs is to keep on playing and training in order to regain his fitness.
“He is not sick and we shouldn’t treat him as a sick person, he just needs to fully recover.”
Roma defender Christian Panucci, who won the Spanish title with Real Madrid, knows that the Mestalla is not an easy place to play.
"I know from my personal experience that you need a strong personality to win here,” said the ex-Azzurri stopper.
“Not many sides are capable of taking three points from the Mestalla, their supporters are volcanic.
“It's an old-fashioned atmosphere with the fans right on top of you, but I'm sure that Roma have enough personality to achieve the result we want.”

finally got a chance to see the game. it was a deserved result.
the first half was truely a joy to watch. end to end action. roma really carried the play and angulo scored against the run of play. it was lucky how the ball fell to him but the finish was class. the penalty was deserved, totti calmly delivered. villa's goal was a clean finish. he had all the time in the world and wasn't closed down at the top of the box because chivu slipped. overall great first half, roma were unlucky not to be level. our midfield was playing great and creating alot, it has become our trademark.
2nd half was dominated by valencia. only because spalletti's subs were terrible. he takes off aquilani and cassetti, two midfielders, and who were playing well, for montella and okaka, 2 strikers who did nothing. we lost the midfield after that. game over. i'm starting to hate when montella is getting subbed on. not because of his play, but because it pushes totti out of that striker position where he has been the most effective, and takes off a midfielder who does more attacking than montella does.
our midfield is all about balance attacking. whenever montella or a striker comes on and pushes totti back, we lose that balance. pizarro gets lost in the game, which makes de rossi do pretty much all the work and perrotta gets pushed to the wing where he is not most effective.
for the system we play, totti should be subbed for montella, okaka or vucinic. i can understand the we are missing mancini and taddei which is huge, but we can dominate teams because of our midfield. we out number and out pace teams with the counter, which is why we are always such a threat to score. when we sub a striker on, we lose our dominance in the midfield because we are now with 2 strikers. and it usually leaves us pizarro and de rossi in the middle, which means de rossi is doing all the work to get the ball.
the refereeing was pretty poor. the linesman were terrible. they were very consistent at making the wrong call, for both teams. the ref was more willing to give out yellows for dissent than for a tackle. moretti didn't get booked for his rugby tackle, yet ayala gets booked during the conference with the linesman. go figure. then ayala should have received a 2nd yellow for a ridiuclous 2 footed high challenge on okaka that was all okakas leg. but de rossi got booked for dissent right after the challenge.
now we have empoli, which won't be easy imo. they beat samp last week which was huge for them, so i don't think they are a pushover. i still think we will handle them easily.

Luciano Spalletti faces his former club and warns that Empoli are able to give Roma a shock at the Olimpico.
“This is a very delicate game for us and we’ll have to be careful. Empoli are just one point behind in the table, are a good side and Gigi Cagni has been able to transfer his tactics well to the players.”
The Tuscans are still unbeaten so far this season with two wins and as many draws, including a 2-0 victory over then-Serie A leaders Palermo.
Spalletti knows the club well, as he began his career at the Stadio Castellani in 1993-94, taking them to two consecutive promotions from Serie C1 to a prestigious 12th place finish in the 1997-98 Serie A season.
“They have changed their line-up regularly in this term, but always got good results because they are so organised. This is an opponent to be respected.”
Vincenzo Montella is also an Empoli old boy, having played five seasons with the club from 1990 to ’95 in Serie C1. He ended a year-long injury nightmare with his goal in the 4-0 win at Parma last week, but didn’t start the 2-1 Champions League loss to Valencia.
“I opted for Francesco Totti because he has to play regularly to find his form. When we went a goal down, I introduced Montella and I expected a little more from him. It’s wrong to consider a player disadvantaged if he comes off the bench. Montella is important for us and I’ve always considered him a key member of the team.”
Philippe Mexes, Mirko Vucinic, Amantino Mancini and Rodrigo Taddei are out of action, while Daniele De Rossi and Cristian Chivu are doubts.

Manchester United are reportedly lining up a sensational £14m swoop for Roma midfielder Daniele De Rossi.
The World Cup-winner is said to have caught Sir Alex Ferguson’s eye after his failure to land Bayern Munich ace Owen Hargreaves, according to the Sunday People.
The Red Devils had also expressed an interest in Rino Gattuso, but were forced to abandon that option after Milan made it clear that they would not let Ringhio leave the San Siro.
De Rossi is a product of the Roma youth team, where his father Alberto is a Coach, made his Serie A debut for the club in 2003.
He was part of the Italian squad that won the 2004 U-21 European Championship and the bronze medal at the Athens Olympic Games in the same year.
He also scored Italy’s third penalty in the shoot-out which allowed the Azzurri to win the World Cup Final in Berlin in July.
It came after a four-match ban he was handed for elbowing Brian McBride in the group stage match against the United States.
