I agree Tosiek.

Without Pizarro the starting 11 could be like this:

DONI

CASSETTI-FERRARI-PANUCCI-TONETTO

PERROTTA-DE ROSSI

TAVANO-TADDEI-MANCINI

TOTTI

(or Wilhelmsson for Tavano)

Pizarro(Y) He may be unprepared mentally as well as physically. So I think we should probably start with Faty.

Maybe, I like Faty, he's very young and I wish to see him playing.....:)

So we lost 1:0

I think today was a genuinely unlucky loss.:nape:

Empoli played near to their best performance and we didn't, but even so we should have at least drawn. We hit the post twice and Vucinic had a shot cleared off the line near the end, as well as other chances, including a great save off Perrotta's header.

Tavano, Vucinic when he came on, Ferrari and De Rossi were about our best players today, and also Doni who kept us in the game twice with two great saves.

It's for this reason that I'd like to see Vucinic starting more, in front of Totti. He looked sharp and dangerous today when he came on, and almost grabbed the equaliser.

Credit to Empoli for scoring a great goal and defending well.

But it was still an unlucky defeat for us, even if we played way below our best.

Roma suffer Aquilani blow

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Roma midfielder Alberto Aquilani will miss Wednesday’s Champions League match against Lyon after picking up a thigh injury.

The Italian Under-21 international was ready to return to action for the first time since damaging his knee ligaments in November, but hurt his left thigh during training on Sunday.

The injury is expected to keep the 22-year-old on the sidelines for at least 20 days and he will therefore miss both legs of Roma's Champions League tie with Lyon, scheduled on February 21 and March 6.

However, Coach Luciano Spalletti will be able to count on Philippe Mexes, who has recovered from the foot injury picked up on January 30 before the Coppa Italia match with Milan.

The Frenchman trained with the rest of the team on Monday and will therefore be available for Wednesday’s match with the Ligue 1 side.

Cristian Chivu is also feeling better and might be included in Spalletti’s squad, although the Romanian defender trained separately from the rest of the team on Monday.

It's ridiculous.:jambo:

Very close game. Defense of both teams was very good. No attacker really could create much, most 'chances' came from set pieces. Roma didn't seem out of place after a nervous start. 0-0 not really good, but no away goal for Lyon. Everything to play for. Roma not in superb form, so IMO a respectable game. Ref was not good: easy yellows, whistled too easily on set pieces on both sides and some wrong offsides too. Best players for Roma were IMO: Ferrari, Mexes (impressive after an injury) and Doni (didn't have a really busy game, but did what he had to do). Yellows not bad for next game, but could be for game after.

Totti predicts Roma success Thursday 22 February, 2007

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Roma captain Francesco Totti believes that they can still progress in the Champions League, despite being held to a goalless draw by Lyon.

The Giallorossi hosted the French champions at the Stadio Olimpico on Wednesday, but were unable to take advantage of the home leg of the second round clash.

“Qualification is still open – I believe a goalless draw is a good result and I think we can do well in Lyon,” said Totti.

“They are a strong side, but I think we were able to handle the difficult situations we faced in this match,” continued Il Pupone, who admitted that winning the Champions League is his dream.

"I have won the Scudetto and the World Cup, but I’m missing the Champions League, the Coppa Italia and finishing the season as the top scorer in Serie A.

“Ever since I started playing football my main aim has been to win the Champions League,” concluded Totti.

Teammate Simone Perrotta is also confident that Roma can do well in France, although he is aware that it will not be an easy task.

“The first leg wasn’t a great match, with few shots, but they are a good team and we managed to balance out the game after the first 20 minutes in which we suffered,” explained the World Cup winner.

Roma vs. Reggina

Wont be an easy game. Bianchi will be the one to watch closely. He has scored 12 goals so far this season. Let's hope that Mexes and Chivu will be fully fit by then.

Doni
Panucci Mexès Chivu Tonetto
De Rossi
Mancini-------Pizarro--------Tavano
Totti---------
----------Vucinic
Subs: Rosi, Okaka, Faty, Taddei, Perrotta, Ferrari, Curci

First of all, Chivu is coming back from an injury. We will need him for Lyon even though Ferrari impressed when Lyon were having an off day. It's better to play Chivu in his CB role to get him back into match fitness, than to experiment at this stage.

Second, I want to see more of Vucinic.

Third, Pizarro can serve as the key playmaker, in support of De Rossi.

Fourth, Tavano on the left wing, Mancini on the right wing, and Taddei on the bench. Why? Because I want to see more of what Tavano can do and I want to see Mancini on his natural right wing.

Fifth, the selection of the subs is because I want to see Rosi be subbed in for Mancini at some point, same with Faty and De Rossi, Taddei and Perrotta are just incase we want to revert to our natural formation, and Ferrari and Curci are just in case, classic subs.

Very good performance against well organised Reggina.

Best players were Pizarro, Panucci and especially Doni who is turning into a fantastic goalkeeper, better than I could've ever hoped for!

Also worth a mention were De Rossi and Vucinic when he came in. Vucinic showed again he's really in great shape and surely deserves more of a chance.

It was nice for Tavano to get his first goal for Roma, hopefully this gives him more confidence.

We grew in confidence as the game went on.

Totally agree Tosiek, it was important the 3 points get but a good match too, Reggina is an hard team to face, we deserved to score in the 1st half, then finally 3-0, Doni is at this time one of the best goalkeepers all over the world, I'm happy for the 1st goal of Ciccio Tavano, Wilhelmsson very well, so Panucci and Pizarro, Perrotta a security, Mexes and Ferrari unbeatables, ok all the team only some distractions but not more, we have to go on this way to make solid the 2nd place.
FORZA MAGICA ROMA!!!!!!!!!!!:) :mexican: :bob: :chick: :jambo: :bouncy:
