Roma come first for Mexes Tuesday 6 February, 2007

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Philippe Mexes is keen on renewing his Roma contract despite having attracted interest from several massive clubs.

The 24-year-old is contracted to the Giallorossi until 2008 and has been paired with a £7.5m summer move to either Milan or Real Madrid.

However, the former Auxerre stopper has underlined that the capital city outfit are his primary concern.

“We have several issues to discuss [including the £1.7m salary cap], but I am ready to meet with Roma officials to discuss my renewal,” said the Frenchman.

“I like it here. This is a young squad and it feels like a large family. I hope we will find an agreement soon,” added the international.

One man also set to put pen to paper on a new Roma deal is Christian Panucci, who is expected to extend his agreement until 2010.

Meanwhile, the agent of Diomansy Kamara has revealed that Roma failed in a January swoop for the striker.

The in-form West Brom ace was wanted by the Olimpico boys, but the proposed winter transfer collapsed just before the window closed.

“I received a phone call from Roma director Daniele Pradè,” revealed Fabrizio Ferrari to calciomercato.com.

“He wanted the player on loan with an option to buy him at the end of the season, but this wasn’t a feasible solution,” added the representative.

Spalletti sees ‘fair’ championship Friday 9 February, 2007

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Roma Coach Luciano Spalletti has dismissed claims that the championship will be falsified by the closure of some stadiums.

Sceptics over the Government’s decision to only open arenas which fulfil Legge Pisanu requirements had suggested that sides like Roma – whose Olimpico fits the bill – would be advantaged by fan support.

But Spalletti, whose second placed Giallorossi outfit are 11 points behind Inter, insists it will not affect Serie A results.

“I am aware that restarting the campaign with some stadia shut to fans can create an anomalous situation, but I don’t believe the season would be falsified,” he argued.

“There are other things which would make the championship irregular.”

Serie A will be back on Sunday after all but one of last week’s ties were suspended following the death of a policeman in the Catania-Palermo riots.

“I think that resuming matches on Sunday is an important signal, the clubs behaved as they should have by accepting the decisions of the authorities,” added the former Udinese boss.

“The Government did its part in trying to find new rules and doing something different from what was done in the past. I think this is of fundamental importance for the future.”

Roma will host Parma at the Olimpico on Sunday afternoon, as under new regulations no evening kick-offs will be allowed for the entire month of February.

“I want to remain optimistic and believe that the new measures will be useful,” continued the 4-2-3-1 tactician.

“The championship starting again doesn’t mean that everything is fine, there is still a lot that needs to be done.”

Why Mexes has to stay in Roma? He could earn so much money in big clubs like Real Madrid, or in England, in Roma the maximum could be 2 millions Euro, so he's a player, he likes Roma but it's naturally taht he has to think to the future, so I don't believe he'll stay with us after 2008, he'll be free to find a new team and he has many requests from big clubs, so for him and other players like Mancini, Chivu, except Totti obviously that has chosen to stay with Roma forever, but Totti is another way respect to the other ones.....
Cheers Anthony, FORZA MAGICA ROMA ANYWHERE!:)

Roma 3 - 0 Parma
Totti 50 (R), Perrotta 65 (R), Taddei 94 (R)
Stadio Olimpico

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Francesco Totti scored his 139th Serie A goal as Roma comfortably swept Parma aside.

Totti recovered from a knock to face Parma, but Philippe Mexes, Cristian Chivu, Alberto Aquilani and Ricardo Faty were out of action. The visitors were increasingly desperate in 19th place, with Vincenzo Grella and Giuseppe Cardone injured, while they had won at the Olimpico only once in 16 previous Serie A visits.

Rodrigo Taddei drilled over after just 45 seconds, then Totti combined with David Pizarro for a deflected shot.

Parma's hopes of a revival are tied up in January signing Giuseppe Rossi and the former Premiership starlet forced Alexander Doni to rush off his line to clear.

Veteran goalkeeper Luca Bucci was kept busy by Marco Cassetti and Simone Perrotta efforts, then Taddei and Pizarro had chances.

The deadlock was eventually broken by captain Totti. Pizarro got away down the left and chipped in a cross for his precise free header from six yards. It was his 139th Serie A goal for the club.

Amantino Mancini thought he had scored, but it was disallowed as he was offside when redirecting Totti's header from a Pizarro free kick.

The Giallorossi got that second goal soon after with a classic team move from Luciano Spalletti's men. All one-touch football from Totti's backheel to De Rossi and Max Tonetto for Perrotta to tap in.

Fernando Couto foolishly got himself sent off in the final minute for dissent. Already booked, he continued his protests and received a second yellow card in the space of 10 seconds.

Roma rounded out the 3-0 scoreline in stoppages when a corner kick was deflected into the path of Taddei to turn in at the back post.

Roma: Doni; Cassetti, Panucci, Ferrari, Tonetto; De Rossi, Pizarro; Taddei, Perrotta, Mancini; Totti

Parma: Bucci; Perna (Pisanu 70), Couto, Contini; Ferronetti, Bolano, Parravicini (Cigarini 52), Castellini; Morfeo; Budan, Rossi

Really good 2nd half, wonderful goals for Totti and Perrotta, Taddei scores in the extratime, difficult match in the 1st half, then Roma came better in the match and made "alles klar".
Roma-Parma 3-0, let's go on!:)

Great win by Roma today, we looked dull in the first half but really stepped it up in the 2nd, All we need is 2-3 straight loses by Inter and 2-3 straight wins for us and were in striking distance for the #1 spot.

Dear Friend, we've to be honest, this year we can't fight Inter cause they're too strong for us, we have to fight for the 2nd place to join directly the Champions league, trust me and always FORZA ROMA!!!!!:)

I think second place is already ours, we only have to keep winning.

I'm looking forward only for two league matches against Lazio and Inter. The best way to end this season is to win against Inter (not matter if it's gonna happen in league match or in Coppa Italia final), nothing more, nothing less. Even though I'm not that confident that we can win but we should put on an acceptable performance.

I won't say anything about derby, everyone knows what this match means for both sides.

FORZA ROMA!!!

Roma on the defensive Monday 12 February, 2007

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Cristian Chivu is expected to make his return to the Roma side against Empoli next week, but Philippe Mexes is still a worry.

Both stoppers missed the comfortable 3-0 win over Parma on Sunday and the pair will undergo medical tests at Trigoria on Tuesday.

The Romanian has been suffering with a slight thigh strain, but he should be back at the disposal of boss Luciano Spalletti next weekend.

However, the Frenchman is expected to miss the Empoli encounter on Saturday because of the cautious Spalletti.

Although Mexes will probably have recovered from his foot injury in time, Spalletti doesn’t want to risk him ahead of the Lyon clash.

The French champions take on the Giallorossi on February 21 in the last 16 of the Champions League.

Meanwhile, Alberto Aquilani is also expected to soon be at the full use of his club after lengthy injury.

The Under-21 international picked up a serious knee injury in December and has been sidelined ever since.

There are even suggestions in the Italian capital that he could be named in the squad for their next League game.

Ciccio wants Roma stay Thursday 15 February, 2007

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Francesco Tavano would like to extend his stay with Roma into next season, according to the player’s agent.

The former Empoli star joined the capital city club in January on loan until the end of the season, after failing to impress in La Liga after his summer move to Valencia.

“Tavano would like to wear the Giallorossi shirt next year as well,” the striker’s agent Stefano Guercini told Rete Sport.

“He has a special feeling with the club, the supporters and the Coach,” continued the agent.

“He has been working hard since his arrival in Rome to recover his best physical condition. I speak with the lad daily and he has guaranteed that his adventure with Roma is enthusing him,” concluded Guercini.

The Giallorossi reached an agreement with Valencia and will have the option to buy the player outright before the end of April for £7m.

I like Tavano, really good player, he'll be in the starting 11 in Empoli on saturday cause Mexes and Chivu are out, so Pizarro and Aquilani, Perrotta will play in centre midfield and so Tavano at right or left side with Mancini and Taddei. Yes, maybe Wilhelmsson too but I hope to see Tavano for a more long time during a match.
Cheers Antonhy and always FORZA ROMA!!!!!:)

Tavano is not the answer. The guy is an above average player at best. Roma needs a pure striker. A Iaquinta type of player.

Deisler, you're fan of Roma too?:) :bob: :mexican:
So, Tavano is a good player, he's not the typical striker for the Spalletti's system ok but he can replace Taddei or Mancini in attacking midfield, klar we need a player like Iaquinta (or similar), to replace Totti in attack or to play with Totti in attacking-central midfield and a striker like him forward.
Iaquinta could be a great choice for FC Bayern too, for me in Bundesliga he could score 20 goal pro season.....:)

You forget about Vucinic(H)

If he'll get in match rhythm and start scoring goal regularly, I'm pretty sure he can be one of the best scorers in the league. :jambo:

Empoli vs Roma (Week 24)

Probable formation for us.

Doni
Cassetti Ferrari Panucci Tonetto
Pizarro De Rossi
Perrotta Taddei Mancini
Totti

Depending if Pizarro has come back from his homeland, Perrotta could get pushed back into the defensive midfield position. I wouldn't rest any players before the big game against Lyon we need consistency and if our players can't handle a two games in space of a few days (not to mention the long break because of the violence) then we simply pay them too much.

Empoli are not up there for nothing. We beat them last time round (barely) with a goal from non-other Vincenzo Montella. Hopefully this time the guy who "replaced" him will get some time.
