According to Philippe Auclair, Samir Nasri will not sign a new contract nor accept a transfer in order for him to leave on a Bosman next summer. That means we either need to stump up a major offer or buy a replacement quickly (most likely candidate is Gervinho, although Honda has spoken of his willingness to move this summer).

Silverware this time, perhaps, if it's not too much to ask for?

I think so, especially now that Villas-Boas is going to dick all over us like Mou did. :(

Emirates Cup (H)

You guys improved quite a lot this year. League Cup/FA Cup IMO is very realistic. You will surely be title contenders as well as usual.

The hype around him is ridiculous. He had only 1 successful year (very successful though) and he has 0 experience in English football. He has 0 experience in UCL as well. I wouldn't be surprised if he flops. He reminds me of Mourinho, but he is extremely inexperienced. Mourinho was much more experienced.

AVB is clearly a good coach, but I don't think it takes a massive genius to say "let's attack" when you have the best club (by far after Benfica were raided) in the country.

the point is that he managed it in Europe too ... granted it was in the 2nd tier, but still, the attacking mentality, and unbeaten streak, weren't just local ...

I dont know if you guys remember but, Villas-Boas was with Mourinho at Chelsea... He was the one who studied the teams and players to give a report to Mou, so English Football is very familiar to him.

He's been taught by the very best there is. Bobby Robson gave him his first job with porto when he was barely 16 years old. He's the youngest ever coach to have taken his coaching badges. By 17 he was qualified.

He was coach of the National team of the British Virgin Islands when he was 21. Then he hooked up with Jose and furthered his education alongside the special one until Jose left Italy.

One season with Academica, where he saved them from the drop, and one legendary season at Porto where he won the quad, which included the Europa League trophy, making him the youngest coach ever to win European silverware.

This guy has never played the game. That's never been his thing. He has been nurtured since his teens by Robson, Jose and others, with the intention of creating a future great in the world of football.

That was the plan and he seems to be doing OK so far it seems.

If he felt that the time was not right to move to Chelsea, I believe that he would not have come here. He's pretty smart and knows that time is on his side too.

We could be witnessing a Legend in the making here. At least that's what I'm thinking as an optimistic Chelsea boy. (Y)

He never played the game 'cause he was shyte  He was a sub goalkeeper in the junior squad at Ramaldense which is like 5min from my house. (Y)

He attended the poshest school in Porto until the time where he decided to talk to his neighbour Bobby Robson, to give you the idea of what kind of building he lived in! So yeah, as a kid who was born in almost the same exact place, I say **** that lucky bastard. (H)

Really? Was he at Chelsea? I know he was with Mourinho at Porto but not Chelsea. This changes everything then.

Hope he doesn't become "the next" Mourinho :(

Are Porto, the Portuguese Ligue and the Europa League that insignificant? How come there's someone who follows football and doesn't know who Villas-Boas is?

I know him obviously, but was never bothered to check what teams he's coached in his career.

Then why am I posting in the "Arsenal thread"?

Anyway, not everyone has the time to sit and look for football facts and statistics in all leagues in the world and memorize them like you. :innocent_smile_1:

Believe me, it doesn't take that much to realize what he achieved with Porto last season.
