Legend! An integral part of the Ajax team at the beginning of the century that made me proud of being an Ajax fan again, after a few rough years. Shame he had to retire in the way he did. Together with Jantje Vertonghen, he was probably the best defender we've had in the past 15 or so years. I will remember him for his great leadership as a captain and for his great free kicks like this one:

It was great. Classic CL night, haha lots of drama and emotional atmosphere. And of course the place went berserk when Lasse scored. (H)

Proud of our performance overall, even though we were pretty lucky at times. Now onwards towards de Klassieker on Sunday.

Koeman's Prem success has catapulted him back into the limelight, and there's even talk of him replacing Hiddink ...

as a manager, I will always associate him with Ajax in the early 00s: that unbelievable turnaround midway through the season to win the double in 2002, and coming within seconds of the Champions League semifinals in 2003:

during that time, he oversaw the rise of, oh, just a handful of players: Zlatan, Rafaël van der Vaart, Wesley Sneijder, Cristi Chivu, Maxwell, Nigel de Jong, Andy van der Meyde, Mido, Johnny Heitinga, Steven Pienaar, and Maarten Stekelenburg ...

I had a lot of expectations around his managerial career; I'm glad to see he's finally working himself back to the level he needs to belong ...

EURO 2004 semifinalist, and he scored in the 0-3 win against the so-called Invincibles of Arsenal at Highbury ... all downhill after that ... cocaine is a hell of a drug ...

A year or two ago he released a book where he bragged about how many girls he got to f*ck as a (semi-famous) football player. And how he got married to a stripper, and became an alcohol and gambling addict.

He's the perfect example of a talent going to waste because he left too early. He had the talent but not the mentality to make it. I was a big fan of him when he played for us back in the day though. Integral part of that wonderful squad we had at the start of the 00's.

#11 and #14, reunited today.

A salute to the greatest left winger ever. Played 498 games, all for Ajax. RIP.
