45 minutes halves?

Does anyone play FIFA 10 PC with 45 minute halves and continuous clock? I have settled on a gameplay balance and have been getting reasonable scores. Currently I am in a match playing as Chad against Mozambique. Each team have 11 shots, and 6 shots on target at the half after 47+ minutes. The score is Chad 1, Mozambique 2. Chad scored first, then Mozambique equalized and took the lead before halftime.

Even after FIFA 11 comes out, it likely will take many months to develop 45 minute match gameplay for FIFA 11 as I have done with FIFA 10. Hopefully, there are some who play full length matches and develop gameplay towards a full length.

Once I've tried to play the 45 minute match but in an older FIFA game. I've managed to get to the 60th minute but then I've almost lost my mind beacuse it took for ever to finish the game so I've just quit it.

Well until now, the gameplay has been stale and hasn't been able to keep 45 minute halves exciting. The key to making 45 minute halves exciting is that scoring goals must be challenging, but not in an annoying unrealistic way.

You should have some matches that are 0-0 and some that are 4-3 thrillers. I think FIFA 10 PC provides the tools necessary to make 45 minute halves worth playing and ensure that matches don't drag on. Matches need to have ebbs and flows, key moments, huge saves, etc. It has to feel like your watching a match.

You have to have solid goalkeeping. You can't have keepers charging out during the first attack. Even goalkeepers rated in the 60s should be able to hold their own throughout a match. You should have defenders that mark hard to prevent a scoring chance. I'm not gunna lie. I have been having some 90+ minute epics, even a few 120+ minute epics. And yeah sometimes I pause the game at halftime, and come back and play the 2nd half the next day. I basically wait until I have that soccer gaming urge, and I view it as a challenge to choose the right formation, choose the right style, try to win the match, no matter what happens early on.

I think I finally am starting to figure out ways to solve the stamina fatigue issue with 45 minute halves and continuous clock. (Y)

i don't think people will stand 90 minutes for one single game at least for me. when i at my desktop, i play 5 various games for 1 hour (fifa 10, prince of persia, tomb rider, grid, topspin2, etc, etc )

I would imagine that you are in a very small minority, if nothing else because many of us won't have more than an hour and a half to dedicate to playing a single match. I tend to go the other way and drop to two minute halves, which also tends to keep the scores realistic and makes the game much harder because a fluke goal by the CPU can be difficult to claw back. It also means that I can progress my manager mode when I've only got a ten minute slot for playing (which is common because I have lots of other demands on my time).

Yeah I am clearly in a small minority in regards to playing 45 minute halves. But lets get one thing clear : there is no option to play 45 minute halves in FIFA. So out of all the people who play FIFA, only a small minority of people even knew that you could do 45 minute halves in the PC version. Although the PC FIFA modding community is large, I would tend to believe that more people play the console version of the FIFA than people play the PC version of FIFA. (since there's things that were upgraded in the console versions that aren't in the PC version)

So out of the people who actually have the PC version, most people spend so much time creating kits, mods, etc that they don't have time to play 45 minute halves. But this is the way I look at this. (and this is very important) I am a gameplay modder. Playing 45 minute halves allows me to test the gameplay in a way that you couldn't test with 2 minute halves. I have had to change a lot of parameters to develop 45 minute half A.I. and 45 minute half difficulty. Currently, I am busy creating formations and testing these formations. Like I have created a 1-4-3-2 Sweep defensive formation with a sweeper. I am trying to see if this created formation merged with my custom A.I. can actually make 45 minute halves playable in a way that a real match goes. You know how when you watch a match on TV, the 45 minutes aren't boring, right? Why? Because there's buildup, great saves, few fluke goals, and lots of passing. Believe it or not, you can get 45 minute halves like that in FIFA 10 if you spend time on it and play with the right formations. There are quirks here and there, but what game doesn't have quirks. The bottom line is I like to feel like when I play a match, I am involved in that match as if that match is happening real-time.

Remember when the USA played England, and England scored in the opening minutes. USA still had hope because they knew they had over 80 minutes to equalize. And yeah the USA got lucky and equalized. But the thing was they never panicked. If they were playing 10 minute halves, England may have won 1-0 because all they'd have to do is keep possession for a few minutes. In a 90 minute match, you have to continue to attack even if you have the lead because there is so much time to go.

As far as spending time playing an actual match, sometimes I play a 45 minute half and when it gets to halftime, minimize FIFA 10 and come back to play the 2nd half later or even sometimes the next day. most gamers spend a few hours playing games a night. to me, it's much more intense and rewarding to play one long match and have a decisive victor than to play 2 or 3 mini-game highlight reels. Soccer is more than just scoring goals. It's about passing, it's about not losing your focus even for one second because it can cost you.

And you think 45 minute halves are rough, I had a match that was 3-3 after full time. it went into extra time and stayed scoreless until the 116th minute, where my substitute found open space and scored to make it 4-3, then added another a minute later to make the final 5-3. But it took 116 actual minutes to break the deadlock. If you do try extra time in the event of a draw with 45 minute halves, make sure to delete the HALF_SECONDS parameter in locale.ini and change the HALF_LENGTH common.ini parameter equal to 45, then reset the profile in-game to default settings. With HALF_SECONDS=2700, extra time is 90 minutes long, consisting of two 45 minute halves. If you delete that and just change the common.ini parameter to 45, then reset the profile settings in-game, you get 45 minute halves and 15 minute extra time halves as you should.

Of course you need the correct gameplay to make 45 minute halves exciting and goals hard to come by. I would consider releasing my gameplay, but until there are those who are interested in 45 minute halves and trying to create gameplay that appears like a real match you watch on TV, and interested in further development of this type of gameplay, I will wait and continue to develop my 45 minute half gameplay.

nentautako, thank you for your thoughts. i am not quite finished with my gameplay, but I made huge strides last night and this afternoon. before i release any gameplay, I want to make sure all the stats screens are fairly accurate. yeah even things like through balls, short passes, long passes, successful slide tackles should be proportionally lower from default to work on 45 minute halves. They will never be perfect, but until today they were too high. I have done a lot of work on buildup, passing, dribbling, and most importantly goalkeeping. Until today, the passing didn't feel quite right. Now I have made it so you really feel each pass and it looks like each pass it has a force behind it. also the collisions and jostling i have made to almost be like clinching in boxing receiving long crosses. I have opened shooting and crossing to allow as manual a feeling as possible with manual cross on.

this gameplay is a result of a lot of hard work last year and in the last month or two. I would like to release this gameplay before FIFA 11 comes out, maybe even in the next few weeks. This gameplay isn't going to be like most gameplays. I probably will only release one version of this gameplay, consisting of a few .ini files. And once it's released, i'd like to encourage members to give it a try and see what kind of stats and scores you are getting. I will also provide formation tips to enhance the ability to defend through this a.i. Members can then update any of the files as they see fit, but if the baseline a.i. is solid, all members can expect a great game right from the start.

This gameplay is being developed specifically for 45 minute halves with realistic pace and buildup. This gameplay is being tested with specific defensive-minded formations with a sweeper. i am spending a lot of time making sure things are as balanced as they can possibly be before release.

I am very pleased with the results at this point, but I realize that what i value may be different than what others value. If some of you are considering using this gameplay, you have to have a different mindset going into it than normal FIFA. You have think of each match as a real match. You have to make sure you defend your own goal. You have to be patient and pass so you do not get tired.

Here are some things in my gameplay have been improved:

-harder shots taken off a bounce from a cross with one tap of the shoot button
-more natural and realistic movement, better paced for a long match
-more minor collisions off of slide tackles and jostling for crosses
-revamped dribble movement, easier to turn quickly from right angles
-redefined dribbler to defender tackle interaction, added exponential amount of unique ball reactions to defender tackles
-slowed down the frenetic pace of default FIFA, and made it more of a chess match of trying to find a hole in the defense and exploiting it
-referees more lenient of slide tackles where you slide into ball and the dribbler, but more strict when you miss the ball and slide into the dribbler. referees do not currently call borderline penalty shots (on pushes and borderline tackles), may have to adjust this.

Those are just some of the things that have been improved for FIFA 10 PC.
