O man i had every single one of the 1998 stickers. My Panini book was completed. I had it until 2003 than i lost it somehow. I guess the fact that i am in the US now where the Panini tradition is a lost art.

There was one game in Qatar in which they attempted to use the cooling system. And it effectively kept the temperature at around 20 degrees. WC stadiums are gonna be bigger and more challenging though I imagine.

Just checked out the list of proposed stadiums and they are, thankfully, all located in the Eastern/ European part of the country. Would be a nightmare for teams and supporters to travel some 14,000 miles to their matches.

In this thread I expressed several valid concerns about the farce that was Qatar winning the bid to host the World Cup in 2022. I was met with some backlash to my extreme anger at a huge and awesome sports nation with 5-star facilities like the USA (or even Australia which I would have accepted gladly) being screwed over for the likes of a dump like Qatar. Here is just one reply of many similar ones, mostly by Xifio, Nady, and Sevillista:

as for the technological advancements necessary:

non-scientists thinking they know anything about the fluid dynamics involved in the stadium temperature control undertaking, think again (or begin to actually think, whichever is applicable to you each) ... as a studying and researching engineer, I know first-hand how long a time 5 years is in engineering technology, let alone 12 ...

but even the layperson (including the all the "educated" non-engineers and non-scientists) can appreciate what such a gap in time can mean: just look at consumer electronics and consumer-oriented technology (including the internet) in 1998, and compare that to what we have now; it is a different world of capability we live in ... anyone who thinks time isn't a factor is just being obtuse ...

Well, you'll never believe it, but Qatar is backing out on just about everything it promised. Oh, and the cooling technology doesn't exist, and we're now 8 years out.

What joke, as always. It was a problem back then, and they said it would be resolved. Now they want to move it to Dcember? Yeah, like that won't affect all the european leagues in any way. Maybe another big bag of cash from Qatar will help them ease their pain.

I new I had made a post regarding this Qatar bid a while back.

Yet these news prove how much more, it was a mistake to have given the bid to Qatar
