2018 world cup bid

all about legacy, and who stands the most to gain from being given the rights to host ... that's what I talked about when explaining my hunches ...

FIFA is all about the legacy of the World Cup ... legacy is the "it" word for them ... and I have to agree with them about this legacy concept ...

Russia stand the most to gain from getting the World Cup ... the exposure and the development of sporting and societal infrastructure is always huge for the event ... so in terms of legacy, they stand the most to gain ... and that's why Russia is a very strong bid, imo, and that's why I hope they get it ...

same goes for Qatar, as they would have the chance to redefine the Middle-East's image as the World focuses on them, and redefine stadium technology through what would have to be cutting edge science and/or engineering application, all this while putting themselves on the footballing map in terms of current and future development ... legacy!

acknowledging that, no real surprise about the decisions for me ...

Well the FIFA obviously chose for the money. Russia was to be expected and I think they deserve seeing the fact that they were the only 2018 bid that hadn't hosted a major football tournament before. But, err, Qatar? Not too sure about that. Exporting airconditioned stadiums to Africa, what's that all about?

Anyway, it's funny how the national television here kept acting like we made a good chance and seemed genuinely disappointed when it was announced that Russia got it.

Hope fans enjoy the 'no alcohol' policy in Qatar. I'm sure they'll love not being able to enjoy a cool beer in 40 degree tempretures...

Königsberg is +2, the other stadiums will be in +3.

Qatar World Cup will be like the worst ever.

How many venues do you suppose will have to be built in Qatar?

I know absolutely nothing about the state of football in their country. How many FIFA-approved venues do they have presently?

Knowing FIFA, there's no chance Qatar will change it's rules regarding beer for WC 2022, unless they want to. FIFA didnt prohibit vuvuzelas saying it was a traditional thing. Well, anti-drinking policies in Qatar too...

I dont know, but I think 80% of them will be built, considering their ambitious projects. We're talking about 3 billion dollars of investment in new stadia, so I suppose most of them are being built for the WC.

And to tell you the truth, taking a look at their projects, the stadiums are going to be astonishing. Can't say the same about the rest, we'll have to wait and see.
